It's fun - it's a lot like the tip-off luncheon at the beginning of the season, but people dress up more and there's a much larger silent auction. Unfortunately, the players aren't as accessible as they used to be. They used to show up early and mingle with people, now they're kind of brought in the through the back and leave that way as well.

There are some videos with Manu and Pop on woai.com.

They showed them on the news and they all looked great even though they need to shave :p:. They showed Tim and Amy and Amy looked really pretty. They interviewed Manu and his eye still looks really bad (even though it looks a lot better than it was a few days ago).

I saw the WOAI coverage. As TMT said, all the guys shown ( which unfortunately did not include Beno :madrun) all looked very handsome.
Amy looked angelic and Fabri's wife, I think it was her I saw, looked like a princess.

I loved Fabri's shoes. Elson's not so much but his suit was sharp. Timmy and Gino were the best dressed I think. :)

Bumping this thread over and over is silly. If someone has pictures or a recap who went last night, they'll post it.

I think people will be disappointed. It's not like someone got to sit around and chat with Tony and Eva and take pictures with them...

I was there...

Highlight of the evening was Fab constantly dropping his glasses of wine; when the waiter came to the table to serve him his meal, Fab inappropriately jumped up to retrieve the plate, knocking the table over.

Since no one reported, I will pass along some second hand info because I didn't go this year. Without a game the next day, it was nice because a couple of players stayed for a while- specifically Michael and Brent. Also, there are some big ticket live auction items- one a painting of Tim, Manu, and Tony. Apparently, Tim won the bidding and then immediately donated it back to be auctioned again. So they made about $70,000 or $80,000 total on this one item between Tim's money and the second bidder's money.

Damn!

Tim Duncan is the best!

Best player!

Best citizen!

I have so much pride for our guys. I know they are struggling. But these are men of character and class.

I have to say the nicest of all was Chip the shooting coach. My girl, Chip, and I all had a nice conversation for a good while about how we love the spurs and support the spurs foundation. We also talked about the items I was bidding on.

The food was great and unlike anything I have ever eaten. All kinds of cool stuff auctioned off. TP won the bid on a 20 bottle of wine package close to $10,000

Thrice-Bid Painting Sets New Auction Record
by Jeff Brody, spurs.com

An original oil painting of Tim Duncan, Tony Parker, and Manu Ginobili created by internationally acclaimed artist Malcolm Farley sold for $110,500 at the 19th Annual Tux N’ Tennies Dinner and Auction presented by Southwest Business Corporation on Saturday.
It was a new record high for any auction item sold in the history of the Spurs event. The painting was one of 15 items sold during the live auction portion of the evening. Proceeds from the sale of the artwork will jointly benefit the charitable ventures of the Spurs Foundation, The Tim Duncan Foundation, The Manu Ginobili Foundation and the charity of Tony Parker’s choice.

The previous record bid of $55,000 was set at last year's Gala for a limited edition Spurs Chevy Tahoe sport utility vehicle.

“We’re absolutely amazed and so grateful to Malcolm and the bidders,” said Alison Fox, Executive Director of the Spurs Foundation. “We’re fortunate to have the support of so many people who help make a difference in our community.”

In a highly unusual move for a live auction, three separate bidders actually combined to create the new record sale. The first bidder won the painting with a bid of $51,000 and then promptly returned the item to be auctioned off again. The second winner followed suit, winning the item with a $32,000 bid and then returning it to be auctioned again. The third bidder finally earned the right to take the painting home -- along with eight sketches used by Farley in the creation of the scene -- with a winning bid of $27,500.

The Farley original, standing 48” x 60” and created specifically for the event, was then autographed by the three Spurs players depicted in the painting.

“It was awesome,” said Farley. “In what other NBA city would you get three superstars like these guys to dedicate their time and energy to helping kids? I love the city. Just to look out during the auction and see all the hands going up. The people of San Antonio are so good-hearted. It was just heartwarming to see.”

Farley, a well-known philanthropist, is renowned for his visions of color and unique ability to capture the moment, the action, and the spirit of an event. His numerous successes have included various Olympics, Academy Award festivities and an ongoing presence in Las Vegas at Caesar’s Palace. In the last five years alone, Farley has painted live at the U.S. Open, Super Bowls, The World Series, PGA Events, Stanley Cup Championships, and NBA All-Star games. In addition, he has painted live on state for Mikhail Gorbachev, B.B. King, Tim McGraw and Faith Hill, David Sanborn, and Carlos Santana, and was commissioned to paint the Sopranos Cast party.
