I'm sorry because I know this has been mentioned before but this kid is a monster with more potential than Parker and is already more of a clutch player. He is a young J Kidd and we probably have no shot at getting him unless we trade Manu for him. But damn he will be killer.

Deron is a better pure point guard than Tony Parker, but Parker is a better player overall.

I'm not sure I follow the progression from thinking that Deron Williams might be better than Tony Parker to the idea that the Spurs are going to have to give up Manu to get him. Is there any real reason why the Spurs need to acquire Deron Williams? Any real suspicion that the Spurs would try to make such a deal? And, besides, if Deron Williams is better than Tony Parker, why would the Jazz ever be inclined to accept Manu in trade for him.

As to NorCal's wiggerific feats here, we should resurrect that "James Logan High School JV Football's Best Backup Corner and Kicker" thread. At least to ensure that posters like Sacramental have a better taste for what our man NorCal is all about.

He's nice.

But not that nice. Tony Parker is better now, with more upside still. I'm not sure what Deron's upside is. He's a good passer, decent shooter, physical. Where's his room for improvement? I think he's kind of like an Andre Miller...

This reminds me of a debate I used to have in college with a friend. Who swore on how Andre Miller was better than TP at the time, and would be years from then. Oh how I giggle at him.

Wake me up when Deron Williams is a better defender than Nick Van Exel.

Yea, I always hear opposing teams say that the key to stopping the Jazz is stoping Deron Williams.

:rolleyes

that's why deron is choosen by the respectable coaches of the nba to be an all-star.

is this a result that jazz beat suns so he has to be better then tp since spurs lost to suns?

Deron is a pass first point guard. Parker is not. Deron has more range. A much better passer. If you prefer scoring point guards, then Parker is your man.

deron will be better no question in one or two years

deron is perfect for sloan's system. he's got 3 solid scoring options apart from him in Okur, Boozer/Millsap, and AK. Deron's scoring is a bonus, when the others get going it opens up opportunities for him.

TP has 2 real scoring options in TD and Manu. Until we change the construct of this team and get some other scoring options, we need Tony to score to give us 3 legit scoring options on this team.

deron will be better no question in one or two years

But the problem is:in one or two years the spurs will be champions again, and again, the jazz will suck because boozer, kiri will get injured, then they'l become an average team, and tony will be all-star again, again and deron will be better.
Then we don't care ,you can go with the jazz and their superstar deron if you want. And I think it would even be better for you,and the most important, for the spurs community.

dewho? Put Deron in the Spurs and we are out of the playoffs.

He looks good cause Jazz are making their shots. Put him in the Spurs and he will look like Beno with worse Defense.

Other than game-winning shots, Deron is really only outpacing Parker in one key stat and that is with assists. The Jazz run plays that lead to more assist opportunities for the lead guard. Deron worked with John Stockton over the summer and clearly improved his game. What better person to work with who knows the Jazz system?

As mentioned many times before, the Spurs PGs will never have high assist totals with the current offensive sets. Just because the lead guard enters the offense doesn't mean he will get the majority of the assist opportunities, especially on a team where the extra pass is emphasized.

Deron does have a terrific ability to hit the big shot at the end of games. He's helped the Jazz win several games with his clutch, confident mentality.
