View Full Version : I was in a car accident

angel_luv

My car is totalled or however you spell it.
I am too upset to explain the accident well, but I had the right of way and the person turned left without an arrow ( maybe without a green) and hit me with his truck.
Both of my airbags deployed. My hand is hurt a little from that- a small burn and my left leg is bruised.

My car is broken. My friend had just burned me a brand new cd I had been wanting and I forgot it.
Luckily I remembered to save my Rasho and Beno pins and my Timmy D ornament from my car.

It was so scary- that huge truck coming at me. I am sure any of you who have been in this situation know.
Figures this is the only way I would be hit on so far this year.

Glad you're ok, Angel!

Don't assume that just because you feel ok now you aren't hurt...Sometimes injuries can manifest themselves down the road (so to speak). I'd see a doctor soon, especially if things start hurting tomorrow!

And Wayne Wright doesn't ask for justice...he DEMANDS IT!

Wow, sounds very similar to my first bad wreck.

I was going straight, and had a green light. It was a 4 lane road with a divider. There was also a person turning left. We each had green lights but I, of course, had the right-of-way.

So, this jackass keeps going, and turns right into my car. They hit the back end of my jeep, and I flipped 1 1/2 times, landed on my cars head.

Fun times.

Thanks all for your kind words. I am actually not that sore this morning- just a little muscle ache and a few bruises.

I was thinking how glad I am that I was driving in the far lane as opposed to the lane closest to the dividing line, which likely would have set me up for a much more dangerous impact.

My mom made me laugh on the way home because I was crying about my 95 Saturn being broken.
I said that I had wanted to drive that car until it died. Mom said," You did."

Glad to see you posting Angel.

Mike, ty. your poor car. :(

Before this my car had a slightly lose part in the hood that was making it rattle. It was a fairly minor repair- part and labor was only going to cost $140.
I have been saying since Christmas I was going to drop of my car so my mechanic could fix the issue.
I'm glad I procrastinated.

If any of you know of anyone who is selling a reliable, little used car for a reasonable price please let me know.

The unforuntate part about my car being totalled is that it is a 95 Saturn and so without a major miracle, which of course is what I am praying for, I won't get a lot of reimbursent for it.

Go to a doctor, no matter what. You could've messed things up and not feel it yet. And if you do go through the legal route, it'll only make your case weaker, the longer you wait to see a doctor. Most lawyers will look over the details of your case and put you in a rental at their expense pending the settlement amount.

angel_luv
02-05-2007, 11:07 AM

Also whom do you have insurance with-- because if you have an agent, you don't need to hold forever- call him.

I do have a rent car on my policy. I called Enterprise and scheduled a pick up but had to cancel it.
The thought of driving, especially at night and with an automatic car ( I am used to standard.) just frightened me too badly. I feel like if I attempted it in my current emotional state I would be endangering myself and everyone else.
I am not willing to do that.

On Wednesday when I have the day off, I will drive around my neighborhood until I feel okay being back behind the wheel.

Today I am too pressed for time.
I can't handle the culminative stress of driving a strange car, especially at night after dealing with what is likely to be a crazy shift at the restaurant.

I am having my mom take me to and from work. I wanted to take the bus but mom said it wouldn't run when I would need it to.

Listen to Danyo make sure you go to the doctor they just tell them it was an accident and you won't have to pay anything up front. Make sure you go though my wife and I have had 2 accidents similar to this and my wife felt real bad the next day and if you have trouble later on with there insurance company paying for stuff you will have less of a case if you don't go to doctors now. I am glad you are okay though and I hope that there insurance company is better than ones we had to deal with. Luckily one time we had same insurance as the other people and it worked out fast. The other time it was insurace company we never heard of and did not get nearly as much as we deserved. I don't envy you having to deal with all the stuff you have to go through when you have an accident but I am glad you are ok. Take care.

A question for all of you who have been in a car accident... how long did it take you to get back to normal?

My accident was a week ago tonight. I haven't been sore except for immediately in my left leg and foot and later in my right shoulder, both of which advil took care of.

I was terrified to get back behind the wheel. I was supposed to get my rental on Monday but I couldn't bring myself to until Wednesday.

Iam not afraid to drive anymore, just very aware of everyone around me. I leave a lot of space between me and the car ahead.
I won't turn right on red even when it is allowed. That is sort of stupid, considering I was hit going through my green light but there it is.

Another thing, I won't change the radio station while in motion and turn my cell phone pff if I am going to be in the car.

The biggest issue I am having is emotionally I am still not at all myself. I've cried about something every day since my accident, which is not like me.

Yesterday I finally and I think wisely removed myself from the new car buying process. My mom wanted to include me but I was completely, unintentionally hindering the process.
My brain is just not working right.
Seriously one of the Spurs could come up and hand me the keys to a car and I would still likely have doubts about whether I wanted the video.
It is that bad guys. It's awful. :lol

It was weird. Yesterday I went and collected my things from my Saturn so they could total it.
I don't know if it was the lack of broken glass everywhere and steam but my car didn't look nearly as awful as I remembered it.
I almost felt silly for feeling so traumitised about it- like what I remember from that night couldn't possibly have happened.

Anyway, I was just wondering for those who've been in one what is was like the week after your accident.

In better news, my mom thinks she has found me a silver, standard PT Cruiser.

exstatic

It'll take some time to get back on your driving feet again. Glad you're turning off the cell phone, but you have my permission to change radio stations while in motion. ;) Please turn right on red, too. Were you doing any of that stuff when they hit you? Didn't think so...

About getting a PT Cruiser? Check the crash ratings. When they first came out, I think they got a D or an F. Edmunds dot com and Consumer reports should have some automotive ratings.

Thank you. :)

I will tell my mom what you mentioned about the Cruiser safety thing.
Hopefully she doesn't think I am sabotoging her efforts to help me. She was so excited about having found the car for me.
I tried to talk her out of it over price. Apparently ( an very possibly) I am too stressed and out of it to realize what a great deal she made.

It is a 2003 ( I think) and she is getting it for $8,000. I think that is what she told me.

Extra Stout

For a 2003 PT Cruiser:

$8,000 is a good price, even for a base model.

Crash ratings are as follows:

NHTSA:
Passenger: Good
Driver: Good
Side Impact Front: Good
Side Impact Rear: Excellent
Rollover Rating: Good

IIHS:
Crash Offset: Not Tested
Bumper Bash: Not Tested

The Cruiser failed the inspection so we are not getting it. I am so relieved because I worried about my mom spending that much money. I know it isn't a lot but she is on a missionary's income and all I can afford at this point in my life is to pay my own bills.
I worry about mom always having everything she needs, you know.

A nasty car accident is as valid a trauma as any, and while you may not be experiencing PTSD per se, it couldn't hurt to check into some resources. Not necessarily counseling (unless you think that would make you feel a lot better - I know some people who have said that counseling helped them speed-recover through things like this), but some breathing and relaxation exercises are pretty useful.

Thank you Stout. :) And thank you Parks! :)

I think a visit from a certain Philly personality would cheer me up considerably. :angel

the law allows you 2 years to file a claim against the other insurance company as well as yours. You may just as well get you a lawyer because the insurance companies WILL drag their ass. does not matter how nice your people are, they will put you off as long as they can........

Thanks Jekka. I missed your post at first. I tried the breathing exercises you suggested and they have been very helpful.

I will keep your advice in mind to Bend. :)

Yes... that's it. :)

Thanks all. It is a way nicer car than I ever expected to own.

:lol :angel As I drove it off the lot, my first thought was... I can fit Sho in it, which would have been an issue with my Saturn. :lol
