View Full Version : Your ten favorite Tim Duncan moments

Here's mine....
10. Tim isolates the DPOY, Ben Wallace, on the left block, runs right past him, and dunks on him with his right hand while knocking him over in a 2004 matchup.
9. Tim Duncan catches the ball on the left baseline, fakes Chris Dudley with his left hand, spins all the way right, and throws a textbook bank shot up and in with his right hand in the 99 Finals at Madison Square Garden. I think it was game 3, but it might have been 5.
8. With the game tied and about 7-8 seconds left, the Spurs get the ball to Duncan at the left elbow, where he's isolated on Nowitzki, faces up, and buries the game winner in his face with about a second left (and Dallas had no timeouts to advance the ball thanks to some great coaching by Don Nelson :lmao)
... this was back in the 2001-02 season.
7. Tim sticks a shot over Garnett to go up 4 with maybe 10 seconds left in the game to seal a Spurs win in game 1 of their 2001 series, and then does a retard-looking dance as he runs back up the floor.
6. Tim Duncan sticks the game winner at the buzzer (from down 1 point) in Karl Malone's face, and then turns and heckles the crowd at the Delta Center in the 2003 season.
5. Tim Duncan catches an alley-oop from an inbounds play in Milwaukee in 98, and proceeds to fall on his ass on the way down (after the dunk) :lol
4. Game 1 of the 2004 series with LA, the Spurs have just made a pretty sizable comeback against the paper champions, and they're up 2 or 4, with a minute or so left in the game. Tony Parker has the ball, Duncan's posted on the left block, and Tony starts jumping up and down, waving Tim over and shouting at him to come set a screen. Tim comes, Parker goes left, Shaq and Payton try to trap him, but he hands the ball off to Tim, who hands it off back to TP, while making a move to a spot a couple of steps off the left block. Shaq and Payton commit to Tony, who passes the ball off to Tim for a sick bank shot, and then they jump up and chest bump while LA has to call a timeout. I've never in my life seen a pick and roll run better than in that one play.
3. Tim hits the insane fallaway over Malone and Shaq in game 5 of the 2004 series with 0.4 seconds left, which caps off a drive from 15 down in the third in a must-win. By the way, fuck Derek Fisher. :lol
2. Tim Duncan hits a jumpshot from Bowen's spot on the baseline to give the Spurs a six point lead with 4:30 left in game 7 of the 2005 Finals. Post players aren't supposed to be able to hit those, especially in the fourth quarters of game sevens.
1. Tim Duncan goes up for a layup, misses, gets the rebound, misses again, gets the board back, and says fuck it, and goes up strong and dunks on Karl Malone and Greg Ostertag in the next to last home game of the 1999 season.

Damn, that's a good list. The play you listed as number one encapsulates everything that is Tim Duncan.
Off the top of my head, the only one I can think of that I would add would be that spin move and dunk on Shaq in Game 6 of the 2003 WCSF. Shaq asked to be put on Duncan and that one move ended that hope.

I forgot that dunk in game 3 in LA, but it was in the 03 series... what about the shot he hit to win game 2 against LA in 99? As soon as he saw Rice come in from the left side to double, he spun right and dropped the winner over JR Reid.

I'd also add one of the plays from Game 1 of the 1998 playoffs against the Suns. The way he played in the second half of that game showed how special he was. Perhaps the sequence where he blocked Hot Rod Williams three times in a row.

My favorite Tim Duncan regular season game was when David got ejected with 3 minutes left in the 4th against the Trailblazers (March 2000?). Spurs were down by 7 when the ejection happened.
When David left the court, Tim became a freakin monster. The Spurs went on something like a 12-0 run, capped by Duncan doing a between the legs dribble and nailing an 18 foot fadeaway with about 30 seconds to go. Spurs won by 4. Duncan had 36 and 15.

Even though it brings back bad memories, my favorite TD moment was against the Lakers in 2005 right before the .4... That had to be his best clutch shot ever.
If it wasnt for .4 (which by the way, according to the RULES was impossible at the time) that would probably be one of the highlights of his career.

That game was great. I remember David accidentally hit one of the refs, and his ejection got Tim mad as fuck... plus, this was back when Portland was a really good team.

Nothing worked on Duncan in the fourth quarter, when he had 18 points on 7-of-9 shooting. He made five field goals and two free throws to account for all the scoring in a 12-6 run that brought the Spurs from behind.

May 15, 2003. Game 6 of the WCSF.
37 points, 16 rebounds, 4 assist, 2 blocks, and one cryin' Kobe.
Im 90% sure TD was the first player to pass to himself off the backboard and dunk it in a game. It was definetly before tmac started to do it in 99
During his rookie year he threw the ball off the far right side of the back board from the free throw line when he was doubled and dunked it off the rebound all in one motion. It was against the rockets and was a top 5 nba action play for the year, by far my favourite duncan throw down.

10. When we won Timmy in the lottery.
9. When Tim visited us in SA for his first time.
8. When Tim-FUN-(da-medals) popped out from behind stage at central plaza
looking awesomely young and confident and ready to play ball in his
official, future home away from home
7. When Tim signed with Spurs
6. When Tim stayed with Spurs
5. When Tim won for Spurs as consistently as his play and stats were
4. When Tim went to a gaming company and demonstrated his 3 point prowess
3. When Tim went to New York and became almost as respected as DRob
2. When Tim didn't cry like others once had as they went down in defeat
1. When Tim stayed being Tim no matter what

One of my absolute favorites was when the Seattle fans cheered as Duncan appeared to have hurt his ankle in the 2005 series. He promptly stood up, paced a bit with one of the most intense looks I've ever seen from him, and proceeded to eliminate the Sonics from the playoffs, capped by his layup on an assist from Manu.
I think I woke up my entire neighborhood when he sank that layup.

That's probably the most memorable Dirk Nowitzki moment, too. That or the time the officials gave him some extra time so he could win the three point shootout. Or the time when he flopped and the refs gave him some free throws.

Among the rare display of Tim's emotion, I could remember these 2 vividly:
1. In the last game of the 2003 Finals, Tim missed a layup, got the offensive rebound, and then scored the layup under the resistance of Mutombo and someone else (couldn't remember who). Then Duncan yelled, with his arms across his chest, David Robinson also raised his right arm in support.
2. In Game 2 of the 2005 WCSF, Tim yelled with 1 arm across his chest after he scored.

I also liked when Tim hit the game winner against Cleveland in 2004 I think.
I also liked Tim's game 7 performance in 2005. It wasn't the prettiest game, but he had a lot of heart, because i think that was when he wasn't the most confident in himself.
