Pop should have been fired a long time ago

It's not his fault his team is stacked with a bunch of 35+'s

He has two youngsters on the bench getting ZERO pt. He has had the opportunity to trade for Corey Maggette, which he passed up.

Can his ass.

Bullshit! He's just as much to blame as R.C. It's those two alone who make the personnel and roster decisions.

I'm not saying the guy should be fired, but he's just as accountable for the pitiful collection of marginally talented, unathletic, collection of older players.

It's no wonder the defense and rebounding have been suspect.

Pop is full of shit continously spewing his annual tirade about this team being soft and needing to improve their play. At some point, you've got to be realistic and admit that these players that surround the Big Three are simply not good enough. This is "state of denial" by the FO. It's high time they addressed it.

No they don't.

My one criticism of Pop would be that, as the team goes worse, his jokes get more screwy, less funny, more strained -- just worse.

It's a double whammy, having to watch the team and then listen to Pop's ever-more reaching attempts at humor. Nothing that a championship (however distant a possiblity) couldn't cure . . .

When the season started-- it was the first time in 7 years that I didn't think the Spurs would win the Championship. Every year since 1999, in October I was confident that they would be Champions in June. So far my belief appears to be holding true.

I just didn't think the Spurs would be struggling this much.

Oh well- Life goes on.

i've heard the whole "players play the game" thing, but at what point does the coach & staff have to take some of the responsibility of the way things are going? i'm not saying they should take responsibility entirely, but even 1% wouldn't be a bad start because the way i see it, it is the coaches responsibility to keep their players mentally strong and in the game for the entire game and not just for 3 quarters.

today's blowout looked like phoenix's game where we were in the game for 90% of the game until the last 4 minutes at the end of the 4th quarters. the team looked mentally lost. they didn't even look mad when they knew they were going to lose, they just looked lost. that scares me.

right now, the spurs have no identity. they used to be the "half-court" defensive team, but not anymore. to me, the spurs look like they are conforming to "small ball" lineups and are struggling because that's just not what the spurs are. we used to slow the ball down, but not anymore. teams like dallas and phoenix impose their will on the spurs when it used to be the other way around, and because of that, the spurs will not win the championship unless they figure out their identity, who they are, what they're good at, and impose their will and make teams conform to competing at spurs style of basketball.

right now, chris webber wouldn't have been such a bad idea. i'd definitely take c-webb over elson & oberto in the lineup anyday, weak defense and all.

i feel a trade coming and atleast that will give me some kind of glimmer of home because if we stay with the same lineup, we will exit the 1st round and guaranteed 1 of our top 3 players will be traded if that happens.

Unless we can dump Eric Williams to a team who wants to dump someone with a multiyear deal then we can forget about improving via trade. Outside of the big 3 we have nobody with any trade value. I can't imagine the Clips sending us Maggette for Barry/Udrih. Doesn't make sense.

Pop has "lost" the team.
He doesn't scare anybody anymore, no more apoplectic fits.
His 3 titles have mellowed him.
I really don't think anybody, starting with lackadaisical, un-leader Tim, gives a damn anymore. I think realizes this season is a lost cause.
I can't see any hustle, any pride, any pleasure in the game.
They get paid the same win or lose, up to $1M+/month.

I think one of the Spurs Biggest Problems is the coach. He subs players when they are hot on the court. Look at Robert Horry one night he was hitting all of his shots, Pop took him out for a while, then when he really need him he was cold. Also when the Spurs are up by 20 points why do the blow the lead? It is the coaching.

I'm not saying Pop should be fired.

But he does have a role in the decline of this team this year--and his ranting on national TV that this team is soft is only half the story..

If this guy was at all truthful--he'd rip into himself as well.

Something like this--

"And on top of this team being soft physically--I have sucked as a coach and the Front Office has sucked as well. I suck this year because my rotations are so assassine that a trained monkey throwing players' name at random into a basket would have had better rotations than mine. And this front office has been living in the past glory days--they gave me shit to surround Tim, Tony and Manu, with.

"So we have a soft team, a coach who sucks and a Front Office with its collective head up its ass. That's the problem with the Spurs this year.

"But on a bright note--at least Tony and Eva will have plenty of time to tend to their wedding arrangements..."

I wouldn't fire Pop but I would hire some assistant coaches that can work with young American playes and bring some new ideas to the coaching staff. Imagination is Pop's weakness. (Even the name of his wine company is retarded, and that pains me.)

Big Shot Rob

I am opposed to any discussion about firing Pop. The fact that he has struggled with the rotations may be simply explained--how do you rotate shit?

Maybe these guys are so tight that they are mentally prone to make mistakes.

Hell--maybe Pop should treat the team to some of South Beach's finest hookers before they leave town...

Come to think of it--maybe WE ALL need some help to loosen up--way too much tension here.

Okay--next Spurs loss--all Spurs fans meet me at the Palace...

i think he has just lost the team and last year's loss to the mavs still hurts, that was their best chance to repeat and missed it.

bowen, elson, oberto, tired of seeing some these stats every other game, 0 pts, 4 pts, 4 pts, 11 boards total
