View Full Version : Durant leader for POY

Even at the ripe old age of 18 years and four months, Kevin Durant is in little need of a secondary career option. From the second he stepped on the floor at Texas, the freshman has overwhelmed Big 12 competition and opened a debate over whether he, and not Greg Oden, should be the No. 1 pick in the upcoming NBA Draft. Yet the soft-spoken Longhorns star admitted recently that he fancies himself an amateur meteorologist on the side. "I'm a big fan of weather, and whenever there's a storm rolling in, I go online and try to see where it's at, how it formed and where it's coming from," he said. "Ever since I watched the movie Twister with my mom as a kid, I've been interested."

Leader? I think its a done deal. The only player to even contend against him is Mario, and OSU is tanking right now.

He still won't go #1 in the summer though.

Durant really needs to bulk up... he is so wittle... maybe like a young KG?

he looks like T-Mac did in HS.

Kid needs more weight but I would choose him #1.

Durants game is more like T-Mac than Garnett, and even though he is skinny, he doesnt get pushed off the blocks or out rebounded by anyone, so people saying he needs to get stronger are blowing it out of proportion. He will get stronger, but he will probably always have that build, like Garnett, who never really got bigger, but didnt need to. And whoever gets him at number 2 will eventually be glad that they didnt have the 1st pick and ended up with Durant. Never seen anything like him, like putting T-Mac and Garnett into one player, scary..

And Alando Tucker has played great all year, I wouldnt put him out of contention either

He won't go #1 in the draft but if he comes out, (IMO he will), he'll be the best player in the draft.

Man, so Wisc, OSU and UT have the best shot at having their player win.
Announced in late Mar?

He might win POY in the country and not even POY in the conference.

That would be something.

The media doesn't like to make comparison across racial lines (every left-handed white wing player will always be compared to chris mullen, regardless of his actual skill set), but Durant looks a lot like Larry Legend w/out the passing, but better rebounding. Great shooter, variety of offensive moves, adequate at best defensively.

I don't think he deserves POY anymore; if anyone has watched Texas' past 4 or 5 games, maybe even past 6 or 7, the dude runs out of energy HARDCORE towards the middle of teh second half. If that is not the case then he is just too pussy to keep running around screens hard and getting open. He is getting double and triple teamed on a nightly basis since game 2, and if he can't figure out how to get open by now he sucks. I hope an AP reporter gets off his jock and makes an article about how he hasn't shown a desire to grab and score the ball in the 2nd half since the first Oklahoma State game, but it wont happen. Durant is good, one of the best, but not POY. His mental toughness is severely lacking and when he's a rookie next year he will get owned like PJ tucker. That's just my 2 cents.

He is still solid as hell but the other Frosh are now stepping up more often.

I think tonight showed that. I think this might be the case when it would be appropriate too.

I would take Durant over Oden based on what I've seen though. He's amazing.

And you'd probably still take Mario Williams over Reggie Bush too.

Durant should win POY but that doesn't mean he should be drafted #1. Last years co POY's weren't even #1 overall picks.

Durrant is going to be a better pro in the NBA by a mile over Oden.

Durrant is a taller TMac with TMac skills, and a better shooter than KG and is still growing.

He will be the best player in the NBA in 4-5 years. He can do anything on the court he wants to.

Durant will be great, but Oden will be better. Oden is the next Shaq.

Uhhhh, probably not. No one is the next shaq.

Oden isn't, and won't be, Shaq's size.

His size/strength actually compares more favorably to Duncan. Now, he has a long way to go with his footwork, passing, developing any kind of an outside shot, & defensive positioning before he can be put anywhere near that class right now.
