AJ's not dumb like Mavs fans. He won't let them chase 70.

No way, Avery will rest his guys once the Mavs get a big enough lead.

he doesnt need to rest em. they can hit it by playing normal. start J.J and Pops.

They won't.

The playoffs will take too much of a toll on every team, so I doubt Johnson will try and chase it. 70 wins and 2nd round exit would = death.

02-14-2007, 08:02 PM
As many people have already said, earning a championship is far more important than chasing a number. Even if the Mavs do hit 70, it'll only be a fluke. I think a more reasonable expectation would be around 67 wins.

ro_50
02-14-2007, 08:08 PM
Mavs are the best team right now and should win the title this year, but its hard to crack 70.

Mavs should win in the mid 60's though.

ALVAREZ6
02-14-2007, 08:37 PM
Stupid call.

27-3 is a tough thing to do, and although the Mavs have accomplished this, it's harder down the final stretch of the season. The play will intensify, and once the Mavs clinch 1st place, they will probably drop a few.

Due to your shitty grammar and punctuation, it's hard to tell if you're saying Mavs fans want it. Because that wouldn't be the case as only 1 Mav fan in this thread actually wants it to happen.

as the pussyface (that's me) reads this thread, I swell with pride knowing that the inevitable ultimatum of ultimatitude is nigh upon us. The Dallas Mavericks will win 70 games almost existentially, with shades of maroon and lavender silk, and the true fans who have experienced the emotional barnacles of emotionality have pure, sweet, sanguine, illegitimate, harlequin, post-modern gladness and joy to feel deep within the groundswell of power and beauty. There is so much beauty in the world that it makes me cry sometimes.

But then I go and pwn n00bs on the internet and it makes me feel better. See ya later, fuckfaces.

a 9 game winning streak isn't out of the question. I'd rather see our heavy's get some rest, get Dirk's ankle fully healed for playoff time, so hopefully these last nine games are very Croshere, Pops, JJ, Ager, and Kevin Willis intensive (which probably won't translate anywhere close to a 9 game win streak).

RonMexico
04-02-2007, 04:47 PM
And the Mavs really don't need to win 70 games, either. Long term health of players outweighs any record they want to get.

P.S. Suns will win 16 in the playoffs... ROFL

We barely beat the pathetic Bucks at home by 2 points, we barely beat the pathetic Knicks at home by 2 points, we get run over by the Suns, we barely beat the pathetic Kings by 4 points, and now we lose by scoring a pathetic 71 points against one of the worst defensive teams in the league, all despite knowing we still need to win 2 games to clinch home-court throughout the playoffs. Where's the motivation here? It's like we're coasting. This team has these stretches where we look like garbage. We're definitely vulnerable in a 7-game series.

i think the mavs could definitely have more focus and play better but i also think they may be a bit banged up right now...i know some of those wins were too close for comfort but i'm very impressed that we beat the kings by only four points without dirk because jho stepped up and had a great game...i'm also impressed that we only beat the bucks by two points without dirk for most of the game (sprained ankle) because the bucks have a great record against the west for some odd reason. we didn't get it done tonight and the team made some stupid mistakes and took too many jumpers late in the game, they could've really used jho but shit happens and at least we have some cushion to deal. i'm not saying that we aren't vulnerable but i think several teams are vulnerable because so many good teams can beat each other on any given night. look what has happened the last two times that we've lost to the suns. the spurs and suns both lost games shortly after, it's no big deal, the mavs will get back closer to the playoffs, i do think they're coasting right now because of the injuries and the lazy attitude due to their seeding.

The Mavs have lost their edge because there is no motivation right now. It shows a touch of immaturity in that they have not actually clinched the #1 seed, yet have gone on cruise control. That exact thing may have cost them the series against Miami last year because once they got complacent, they couldn't ge things going again.

AJ should point that out to them.

Once they clinch the West, AJ will curtail starters' minutes severely, though. There is no point in risking injury to get 68 wins as opposed to 65, especially when both Dirk and Josh Howard are nursing tender ankles.

Quite honestly Dirk...I've said it a million times. I think the Spurs fan's hate is less for the Mavs as THE MAVS FAN. Arrogant, shortsighted, and argumentative. Plus, we have a RIGHT to hate the Mavs. I don't, but I'm not speaking for everyone else. I love good basketball, and the Mavs play great basketball. But it's like when certain people hated the 90's Bulls for being good. It just didn't make any sense to me for some reason to hate them. I loved 'em. Now that's just about the only Bulls/Mavs correlation I'm going to make, but it's a start. :smokin

You're right, it's the same reason Mavs fans hate on the Spurs fans, and the team to a much lesser extent. I enjoy cheering for Duncan, Ginobili and Parker at times so I know it's not like I hate the players so much, I'm an NBA fan, no point in hatin' on great players. It's great that at least three teams from the West are so good and maybe two from the East to insure a healthy crop of smacktalk. There is nothing more boring than watching one team plow through the entire league with ease and predictability...this year, anything can happen in the playoffs, particularly in the West.

I'm not jumping into the fray but why would you rather play the Suns? Is it because of the physical play of the Jazz? The Jazz have really been sucking it up lately. I really don't see them doing more than sniffing maybe 1-2 wins in the first round against Houston...oops, let me add a huge qualifier: IF t-mac's back is good to go.

We match up so much better with the Suns, the Jazz give us fits with their matchups. Okur, Boozer, Williams, and even players like Harpring and Giricek give us problems. Plus they play great d, and can run or play half court. With the Suns, if we can slow down Nash, we win everytime. Cut off the head and the body dies.

this is true, parker against nash was an awesome thing to see...now if harris could just watch and learn :bang anyway, i think it's better for the mavs to play teams that they may have a tougher time to grind out wins (rockets, jazz) but at least they won't fall into the run and gun offense trap (which they like to do) which could burn them

Easier said then done. I dont care how many fits they give us, I would prefer to face the Suns then the Spurs because they would be a much tougher obsticle for us. I want to face the teams who give us fits because I want to see us get through it. Titles arent easy to win and beating the teams who stand the best chance against you makes it sweeter in the end.

Oh you dont have to tell me, the Spurs have beaten all of our arch enemies on our title runs. This year its different though. I dont want the Spurs too have to play the Suns in probably 6 or 7 games (even though its not an option), then the Mavs in 7 games, then whoever we play in the Finals, not to mention the 1st round matchup. I think it is just to tiring, one of the reasons I thought the Mavs lost last year, they were worn out from the hard road it took them to get there, while the Heat didnt have as hard of a road. I want the best for my team, Im not going to try and bring pride into it, whatevers best for my boys, Im for that

:blah :blah :blah I am amazed at your inability to realize you have tons of concerns about your team especially when you face the Mavs!
The Mavs are going to rest their starters once they clinch HCA.

This is an obvious thing teams do once their playoff seed is set, so players don't suffer needless injuries. The Spurs did this in the years they clinched the top seed. It has nothing to do with how good or bad they are.

You have to be galactically stupid to miss the point. Just really, astonishingly moronic. Other Mavericks fans should be embarrassed on your behalf.

I appreciate your candor ponkmeister and to be quite honest since I'm feeling so vulnerable right now: you're the one Mavs fan that I actually read. :oops

I appreciate playful jaunting and am really happy that we can put this to an end in a few months and really have some shittalking with FACTS to back them up. So cheers...one of us will be feeling the pain of the upcoming "smacktalk"ing season to await. :toast

It's hard to argue this point, but I will give it a shot :p: In a 7 game series, the teams pretty much have each other figured out after the first 2 games. After that it's just who plays better which is usually the team with the better players. It's the reason there are so few upsets in the NBA playoffs. Yes, the Jazz might give the Spurs more problems in individual regular season games but after adjustments are made in between games I don't think they'd give the Spurs near the series that the Suns would (just from an overall talent aspect). Of course, you know your team much better than I so I would not press this argument.

That doesnt pass im sorry. If you are good enough to win, you are good enough to win. Spare me the word "tired". I refuse to use that because it is pussiness!! You are professionals who train constantly for this game and getting paid for it. Grow a sac and dont use that shit for an excuse for losing.

I agree we need to rest our guys but to say it could cost us come playoff time is stupid (or that it costed us against Miami). Look at the lead we have for the #1 seed jackass. If this results in a game 1 playoff loss, no big deal because we will be ready and have our motivation back.
