Kidd Can See Being Traded
17th February, 2007 - 8:42 am
New York Daily News -
Jason Kidd sounded yesterday like a point guard whose days in New Jersey could be over.

Kidd, who has been linked to the Los Angeles Lakers , admitted that he wouldn't be surprised if he is dealt before Thursday's trading deadline.

"They have to do what is best for the franchise," Kidd said from the Palms Hotel and Casino. "There are people who have contacted the Nets, so we'll see. Business always gets in the way of basketball, so you just have to be happy wherever you end up and always keep your bags packed."

Yeah, because we saw how well the New Jersey offense flows without Kidd.

The LA Lakers can always absorb a large contract because of the size of their market and the consequent financial structure. I'd ad the Knicks but they are in triage.

On the other hand, maybe the Knicks could trade Francis for Kidd. NJ would certainly need a guard, and although "Stevie Franchise" has never proved to be a franchise, he's still a player with more than average skills.

Isiah - may I call you Izzy? - You are an idiot by any name, Izzy. Instead of hanging around Spurs Messageboard, you should attend to Knicks' mess.
Wait, you are doing that by trading Kidd for Francis. Now I see what you are doing. I see you working. Still, stupid, though. Thorn isn't dumb like you, so he won't trade Kidd for Francis.

Do not share what you are smoking. I am not "down-with-dumbing-down-America."

2 years left on that contract......why not us?
He had his chance to be here without costing us any of our core. That's not the case anymore.
7. Jason Kidd (NJ) .............. $16,440,000
That was his salary LAST year(2005-2006). It bumped up 12.5% THIS year, and will do so again for those last two years. Do the math. Those last two years are going to be about $37-38M for a late 30s PG who has already had micro-fracture surgery.

It's not a matter of the Lakers "Absorbing" his contract, it's that the Lakers would have to give up a player or two that make around the same as Kidd.

With that said, I believe the Lakers still have the salary of Brian Grant ($around 15 mill) to trade. However, I'm sure the Nets would pressure them for Bynum as part of the deal.

Grant was bought out/released by LA on 8/10/2005 according to Patricia's site. LA would have a hard time putting together a package that wasn't total garbage without including Odom. I don't think NJ is trash shopping at this point.

Nets Shopping Carter
17th February, 2007 - 8:46 am
New York Daily News -
Vince Carter was a hot topic of discussion yesterday as Nets president Rod Thorn continued his efforts to move his All-Star guard by Thursday's trading deadline.

The Nets aren't interested in continuing to pay Carter "max money," and they know he'll be looking to move on to Orlando this summer when he can opt out of his contract. By trading him by the deadline, they can dictate where he goes.

"Rod's trying everything he can to trade Carter," said one team executive who talked to Thorn. "He'd rather trade Vince than Jason (Kidd). They still look at Kidd as the face of the franchise."

The Clippers, who have had talks before with the Nets about Carter, are still a possibility. All teams other than Orlando risk having Carter walk after the season, unless there's some sort of wink-wink deal reached before this summer.

But to get Thorn to revamp his team, with the Atlantic Division by no means locked up by the Toronto Raptors , he is not going to jump at any offer. Even with Carter's days with the team apparently dwindling, the Nets are going to hold out for a package that will include any combination of the following: a young promising player, players with expiring contracts and a future No. 1 draft pick.

You can't trade a bought out contract. But the the Lakers do have a bunch of expirings and Kwame only has one more year left and he makes about 10 million. They can make it work with Kwame and a bunch of expirings; Mihm, McKie, Shammond, picks, Farmer/Smush, Cook, etc. Whatever makes it work. As for Bynum he's not going anywhere. Kidd's market value is not that high. Although there is a rumor about Golden St. breaking the bank for him; Richardson, Foyle, Pietrus, and even Ellis. I can't believe they would make that trade and if they did it would be one of the worst trades I've ever seen.

CALIFORNIA KIDD
WARRIORS, LAKERS FAVORITES TO GET JASON BIDS FOR KIDD:

Peter Vecsey says Jason Kidd is likely heading to the West Coast — either with the Lakers or the Warriors. February 18, 2007 -- LAS VEGAS - Cheerless to say, yet indisputably reasonable, in all likelihood, we've seen the last of Jason Kidd in a Nets uniform. On the other hand, I suspect he hasn't lost his ability to grace an occasional New York City tabloid front page.

Within the last week the Warriors, I'm informed, have communicated interest in the Oakland-native and certainly flaunt more than enough assets to outbid the Lakers for his services. I do not know the principles involved, or even if an actual offer was made.

Would the Nets accept, say, Jason Richardson (four years and $55M left after this one), Adonal Foyle (two years and $19M) and rising-free-agent Michael Pietrus? If Jason Collins (two years and $12.3M) were included in the deal, most certainly!

Even should Golden State refuse, I'd do it because it would terminate the guesswork regarding Vince Carter's contract intentions at season's end. Of course, should Carter verbally commit to the Nets before Thursday's trade deadline - and it's established he isn't using Carlos Boozer's agent or wife as consultants - that abruptly ends any notion of dealing Kidd to the Warriors.

The Nets' insistence that Collins accompany Kidd to LA is an obstruction in that trade negotiation, but not intractable, I'm guessing. If a better offer than expiring contracts, draft picks, cash and Kwame Brown or Brian Cook doesn't materialize within the next four days, I'm inclined to believe Kidd will return to the Triangle Offense from whence he began as a rebellious rookie in Dallas under Jim Cleamons, off and on assistant to Phil Jackson for the last 15 years or so.

KIDD WOULD BE OK WITH L.A.
By MARC BERMAN
February 17, 2007 -- LAS VEGAS - Jason Kidd is not playing in tomorrow's All-Star Game but sounded like he would like to be playing for the Lakers.

Kidd waxed nostalgic about growing up a Lakers fan and said he wouldn't be upset if he became a Laker.

"With the history of the Lakers, you definitely can't be disappointed," Kidd said. "With the tradition they have as a franchise, you couldn't be disappointed."

The Lakers have had trade talks with the Nets about Kidd. At one point Kidd said, when asked what team he wants to play for, "A team that could win a championship."

Kidd said of the Nets' bid to trade him, "They have to see what's best for the franchise. It's hard to say we're underachieving with all the injuries. That's the nature of the business. It only takes one team. You always have one bag packed. You never know."
