Went to the Coushata casino resort in Kinder, La this weekend with three buddies. I had never been there before and did not know what to expect. It was a nice casino, not as good as Vegas, but it was nice.
Anyway, got there at 5: 30, just in time to register for the Friday night poker tourney which started at 7pm. There were 10 tables with 10 players at each, and the first 1 1/2 hr is pot limit with unlimited rebuys. I bought in for $30, which gave me 700 in chips. By the break, I had a little more than doubled my stack, playing very conservatively. At the break, everyone can buy 4500 more chips for $60, which I did, so I had about 6000 in chips. My goal was to try to make Final Table, which means you are in the money.
Well, about 11pm, I am at table 1 with five people and table 2 has six people, so we need to eliminate one more person. I have 47k in chips which is about 5th best. The blinds are 1200-2400, so the action is getting hot. I am 2 off the button and the player to my right goes all in for 42k, I look down at my cards and see pocket rockets (only time that night), I make it look like I am thinking real hard about calling, then push all in as well, sure enough, the chip leader to my left calls, and the small blind and big blind fold. The player to my left shows AK u , I show my AA and the chip leader turns over QQ. My aces hold up, I win the pot, my stack goes over 140k and I have 35k lead on 2nd place and 30k lead on 3rd. :elephant
So, the tourney manager tells everyone what the payouts are going to be. 1st place will get $3800, 2nd $2000 3rd $1200, and on down to $200 for the last 2 spots.
So what happens? Everyone wants to chop the prize money, rather than play out. They offer $1200 to me and the 2 players below me and $600 to everyone else. I turn it down because I want to win the damn thing and I have a huge lead, but finally give in after much whining by everyone. I did not want to piss off 9 players and try to beat them if they all had it in for me.
Man that sucked, the house should not even allow chops at that point, they should wait til the final 3 players. The 3 of us at the top could easily eliminated the short stacks because the blinds were so high at that point and they would have had to go in with almost any hands. I wish i would have talked to the 2 of them and gotten that across to them, they might have agreed with me and we could have played on.
Oh well, $1,110.00 profit is not bad for my first casino tourney.
I played a $2 -$5 no limit game Sat night and won another $500, so my weekend was pretty sweet.
The golf coure, Koisati Pines was great. I recommend going there. For $200, you get a nice room and 2 rounds of golf for 2 nights....very cool.
