Jesse James Leija is promoting the second installment of MMA at Cowboys Dance Hall next Tuesday. The 1st one was a pretty good event. Some decent fights and a crowd of about 2,000 or more. My friend Brandon McDowell is fighting again, so I will be there. All you MMA fans in SA should try to make it out.

It was a really good show all together. There were about 3,000 people, including Tim Duncan, Robert Horry, and Chris Lebman (from "The Ultimate Fighter" on Spike TV). They had 12 fights and most were either knockouts or decisions that were close. It was a better show than last time b/c the fights were more evenly matched. There were no total dominations or boring fights this time.

My friend, Brandon, won too which is always good. He submitted the guy with a side choke-hold in the 2nd round. It was pretty cool, because the guy he beat last night had been talking a ton of smack the last few months to Brandon. They were both on the fight card in SA back in November, and both won. After that fight, the guy goes up to Brandon and says “I’m the fighter you wish you could be”. Then, it turns out that they work the door at bars across the street from each other on 6th street. The guy was talking so much, then Brandon tapped him out.

They said last night that there are 6 more of these events scheduled for 2007. I would assume that they are just gonna get better each time.

Damn it. I wish I could have gone just to see these guys. It sounds like it was good show. This promotion should continue to improve with each event.

Tim Duncan is really into it. I don't know about Horry, but Duncan is always at every event like this.

Leonard, I know you saw Timmy's closeup at UFC a few months back. I don't know why Horry would like mma since they don't allow biting. :lol

Mma 2 Was Awesome! Does Anybody Know The Names Of The Entrance Songs For Julius Karow And/or Randy Hauer? Karow Is The One That Came To The Ring With The Bandana Over His Face And Got Submitted By Brandon Mcdowell. Hauer Is The Black Dude With The Long Hair That Came To The Ring And Seemed Like He Really Wanted To Be There. Very Energetic....until The Fight Started. Please, If Anybody Knows I Would Greatly Appreciate It. I Love Entrance Songs. They Really Hype Me Up. I've Got A Playlist On My Ipod Full Of Entrance Music That I Use To Work Out With.

the venue. Since when do you have to be 18 and older to go?

I'm not sure if the show is 18 and up. Most of the mma events in SA are at bars but this isn't a bar. I really don't know.

It was a good show. The promoter was a guy named Steve Ashcraft who is a legend in SA martial arts circles due to his rich history as a champion kickboxer in the 70's. He's really pushing mma in SA right now so kudos to him.

Here's an old pic of Ashcraft from the 70's after one of his matches.

The ballroom was pretty small and there were about 250 people there. I did not hear one boo during the night which was refreshing.

The fights were suprisingly good for an amateur event. There was only one fight where the fighters' skills were highly unevenly matched so the action was good in most of the matches. There were two subs, one decision and the rest were KOs.

My buddy lost his match but fought very well. He was winning a close match, then gassed out in the 3rd and got KOed. He had a good showing though.

This particular promotion is planning another show for May 5. I would recommend going if you enjoy mma. I paid $15 and stood about 15-20 feet away from the cage with a direct line of sight to the action. That's not a bad deal.

Damn, that sounds like a good deal for $15...
