Also good luck on giving up alcohol, especially for someone that's your age, I debated on giving it up. But I don't do it enough to really make it a sacrifice. Also i really like getting fucked up.

No offense, but giving up something material is what we teach our children so that it will have a tangible evidence to them when they are too young to understand deeper meanings. But as you get older, you should seek for something more on the spiritual side. As jman said- give something back- do something good that you do not normally do- go to Mass during the week, volunteer... Of if you want to give something up- make it something meaningful- how about giving up gossip- or anger- or resentment for Lent. You should try to do something that transforms more than just your body.

I didn't give it up for lent, but in June of last year I gave up drinking any alcohol at all. Maybe it's cause I was reading about Islam alot. I've been going this long without it. I'm not sure how long I will keep doing it though. Maybe an entire year...maybe longer. Who knows.
