Or anybody else that is good at math? I need help and there is nobody to help me. Seriously nobody.

What's up?

Okay I have a Calculus test tommorow (Part I), ugh 5 questions long and I don't know jack shit. If you or anybody else could help me with these types of problems I'd greatly appreciate it:

1. Find average of y, for y=f(x) over (a,b) - the premise is that you integrate from top to bottom and graph it to find the average, but I just can't get the right answer
A) f(x) = X^2+2X+1 (bottom), g(x)=3X+3(top)

B) f(x) = 3X^1/2+1, g(x)= X+1

I'll list the other problems after you or anybody else might consider to help.

just integrate f(x) over (a,b) and subtract that from the integral of g(x) over (a,b)

I'll just take the F, this happens to me every single time, I jack off then come test time I don't know anything and I play catchup for a whole chapter in one day.

just integrate f(x) over (a,b) and subtract that from the integral of g(x) over (a,b)
I tried that, the answer is 9/2, but I get some wierd ass fraction.

what is (a,b)?
2 and -1

Here's the solution to problem 1A. Like ShoogarBear said, integrate g-f

HOLY FUCKING SHIT.

Where can I download this Mathematica 4 program?

It doesn't give you the solution (I typed that up real quick), but it can do almost any Riemann integral and a lot of other things. You can get the student version for maybe $150 at your school bookstore, although if you're an engineer or programmer, Matlab is a better choice. The pro version is maybe a thousand or two.

LOL, Mathematica is probably cheating at your stage. The integrations are pretty simple and you should at least learn to do them by hand.

The key thing here is to remember that
I(g) - I(f) = I(g-f), so you can just integrate the one equation x^2 -x -2.

I'm gonna try to cheat on this test and/or take the F. There's no way I can learn all this shit in 3 hours, thanks anyway.

The integration is easy, it's just that there are so many forumlas that involve it and make it so much harder than it seems, Top-Bottom, Big R - little R, Square root of 1+dy/dx, etc...to find some pussy ass points, and if I spend too much time on one problem, like this one, I'm wasting my time because there is only one long ass problem on one of the forumlas and section and I need to know 10 FUCK.

If all you're integrating is quadratics, there aren't that many rules. The real pain is when you start integrating trig functions.

We're past that, we're just applying integration to find surface area of curves, the area trapped between two curves, areas of a solid obtained by revolving around X/Y axis, finding arc lengths...etc

It's sort of my fault really, I know I'm gonna take this class again when I'm in college so I just sort of procrastinate on purpose, but then again I'm in danger of getting a F and if I do Colleges won't accept me. Which is just downright gay.

This is the best stage to use Mathematica. His can do his problem step by step, checking his calculation pretty easily at every step. It won't do his homework for him (I don't know any college prof who accepts answers without solutions), but it's a way to know when he's doing things correctly.

Crap.. if it's high school, just take a sick day to study, and do the exam Friday.

No way. The real fun is when you start integrating on measure spaces. :lol
