Did it though? Having seen it a few times on SC, it didn't really look that bad. I mean, not wheelchair, crying and stretcher bad. I thought the reaction looked worse than the moment the injury was sustained.
right. if it were dirk's soft ass, that woulda been a career ender. so you can take that bullshit somewhere else. you'd be singing a whole different song if that german fuck was involved.

If the New Jersey Nets were hoping to get a boost at the trade deadline, they sure got it. The twist is that, after weeks of rumors involving potential Nets deals, this boost had nothing to do with their own deal-making.
Instead, the Nets' playoffs hopes are vastly improved today because of the demise of one of their rivals, Miami, thanks to Dwyane Wade's dislocated shoulder and the impending resignation of coach Pat Riley. (OK, I'm kidding on that last part. But have you ever seen somebody's karma account evened in such dramatic fashion? Somewhere, Stan Van Gundy is laughing his mustache off.)
As things stand today, the Heat are 26-27 and in possession of the eighth seed in the East, but without Wade it's hard to imagine that situation remaining the same for long. The Heat are 1-6 when Wade hasn't played this season, with all six losses being by double figures.
And in the other 46 games, it's only been the brilliance of the league's top-rated player that has kept the team's head above water. As I've been pointing out since the third week of the season, Wade's supporting cast has been horrid.
Yes, Shaquille O'Neal is back, but this isn't the Shaq of old. Minus their lone superstar (sorry, Shaq), it's tough to imagine the Heat winning more than a third of their games -- and that may be generous, considering they were barely over .500 even when Wade played.
Estimates of Wade's absence seem to be running between four and six weeks, which based on Miami's upcoming schedule will knock him out for between 13 and 20 games. If it's the shorter of those estimates, the Heat might be able to survive the blow. Say Miami guts out a couple tough wins and manages to go 4-9 without Wade, dropping it to 30-36. The Heat could still make up ground in the final 16 games, and with a fairly light closing schedule the Heat might still get back to the 40 or so wins they'd probably need to get a playoff spot.
But if he's out six weeks, forget it. Then we're talking about 20 games, and if the Heat go 6-14 in that stretch (which might be optimistic) they'll be 32-41 by the time Wade gets back, with only nine games left to repair their record. Meanwhile, with New Jersey at 25-30 this morning and expecting Richard Jefferson back in early March, it stands to reason the Nets will end up around the 40-win mark themselves. So unless the Heat ran the table when Wade came back, they'd be looking at lotteryville.
Of course, New Jersey isn't the only beneficiary of Miami's misfortune. The Knicks and Magic also have brightened their outlooks. Orlando is just 14-24 since its torrid start and has fallen below .500, just percentage points ahead of Miami in the current playoff pecking order. With the Magic's puzzling decision to stand pat at the trade deadline, the Wade injury may be what they needed to get into the postseason. And unbelievably, the Knicks aren't out of it either. New York is only 24-31 after last night's inexcusable mail-in against Philadelphia, but have a favorable schedule and own the head-to-head tie-breaker against the Magic.
Finally, Wade's injury also puts us one step closer to what would be an unbelievable development -- a defending champion returning the same roster intact, and ending up in the lottery. Some times truth is stranger than fiction.
do you think we will lose 66% of our games without Wade?
Shank

they may be 1-6 w/o wade but those games were also without shaq so that's not a good indicator of how they'll fare...the real problem is that they are playing some tough teams the next 15 games with 8 of those teams above 0.500 and some of those who are below 0.500 still putting up good games against weaker teams (knicks, wolves, magic)
i think more of this eighth seed spot depends on how well the nets play...i think they'll continue to underachieve and suck it up so if wade gets back in four weeks, they'll still have time to secure the 8th spot

Unless they can somehow get the 7th seed or better it's not going to matter. They're not going to beat Detroit in the 1st round with Wade only back a short while (assuming he gets back prior to the playoffs). Their only chance is to avoid Detroit in the 1st round and gather momentum before playing them in the ECF's. I don't know what their schedule looks like the rest of the season though, so I don't know what their chances are of getting that 7th seed or higher w/o Wade.

Agreed. If someone roots for an injury, to me that is classless. I am not saying they can't do it, but I don't have to like it. Personally, I want the opponent to be 100% especially in the playoffs. With the decision to avoid surgery, Wade and the Heat are hoping that rest and special exercises will re-strengthen the shoulder enough to keep the bone from popping out of the socket again so he can play this season, sports physicians said. Typically, such a program takes four to six weeks.
Wade's injury was a partial dislocation, meaning the upper arm bone was knocked loose from the socket, which in 85 percent of cases also tears the rotator cuff, a cup of cartilage that holds the bone in place.

I understand that and I do see the venom directed at DWade from Mavs fans. As a Spurs fan, while I never wish for anyone to get hurt, I never shed tears for Shaq when I hear he misses games. I don't agree with the hate part though. I don't believe that hate belongs where games are played. That, however, is a personal opinion and not a suggested course of action nor is it chastising anyone who feels differently.

i cant speak for anyone else, but I didnt want to beat the Lakers unless they were in full force. i cant speak for anyone else, but I didnt want to beat the Lakers unless they were in full force. I would rather lose to the lakers in a gut-wrenching 7 game series than beat them in 5 with shaq injured. Cause then the spurs would have gone on because the lakers had some bad luck. least thats what they'd say.
Yeah that would be the ideal situation. I'm sure most mavs would like to beat the Heat at full strength. I feel that Wade deserved some karma. Maybe celebrating an injury is going overboard though but seeing the Heat struggle and watching Shaq try to carry a team by himself is fun as well.

I don't like to see anyone get injured but at least it happened while he was in the act of fouling another player (which wasn't called) Better than if he had been knocked down on one of his patented drives to the basket.
Of course, they'll probably suspend Battier for hurting Wade...a reverse flagrant foul...or something. This is the NBA after all.
Word is Battier has been banned for life.

Karma for what? Putting on a monster performance in the Finals?

Season-ending surgery an option for Wade
Season-ending surgery an option for Wade

MIAMI (AP) -- Dwyane Wade is considering season-ending surgery to repair his dislocated left shoulder, which would be the biggest loss yet for the Miami Heat during their rocky reign as NBA champions.
The All-Star guard was hurt in the fourth quarter of Wednesday night's 112-102 loss at Houston. Wade flew home early Thursday in a private plane and was examined at a hospital by team physician Dr. Harlan Selesnick, who conducted a battery of tests.
"Wade is presently weighing his treatment options provided to him by the Heat medical staff," the team said in a statement. "Wade still needs to discuss these options with his family and Heat president and head coach Pat Riley, and will then decide what course of action to take."
Riley said he would talk with Wade about the decision in the next couple of days.
"I don't have any anticipation," Riley said Thursday night before an NBA finals rematch against Dallas. "I wrote him a letter today -- FedExed it, because his mailbox was loaded on his phone."

Regardless of Wade's choice of treatment, his injury further weakens the Heat's bid to repeat. They may be hard-pressed merely to make the playoffs.
"We're going to need a couple of days to readjust to this," Riley said.
The injury stung especially hard because it came in the first game in which Wade, Riley and Shaquille O'Neal have been together since mid-November. Plagued by health issues much of the season, the Heat had won seven of eight games to reach .500, their best record since they were 3-3, and appeared ready to surge into the playoffs.
Instead, they went into the Dallas game missing their leading scorer and five games behind Washington in the Southeast Division with 29 to play. At 26-27, Miami had the eighth-best record in the East and was 2 1/2 games out of ninth place.
The top eight teams in the conference qualify for the postseason. Only once since 1970 has the defending NBA champion failed to make the playoffs -- Chicago in 1999.
"You don't know how this whole thing is going to play out," Riley said. "We'll have to play with a sense of urgency."
Wade's injury wasn't enough to push the Heat into making a deal before Thursday's NBA trading deadline.
"There were some late-night calls last night," Riley said. "But my begging didn't work. It usually doesn't happen in the 11th hour. ... We couldn't make the kind of move we thought would have impact."
O'Neal said he's not yet projecting playoff seedings, but in Wade's absence, he said it's time for him to become more active.

"I'm going to start playing really aggressive," he said. "Hopefully I'll get more looks and get more touches and be able to keep everyone involved."
O'Neal, who turns 35 next month, is still rounding into form after returning Jan. 24 from knee surgery. He had 20 points and 16 rebounds in 27 minutes Wednesday.
"If we can get Shaq to play the way he did tonight, we will be in pretty good shape," Riley said.
"We have to keep the big fellow going," forward James Posey said.
Even with O'Neal as another option on offense, Wade leaves a huge void. The MVP of last season's NBA finals is third in the league in scoring with an average of 28.8 points.
"He's the one we look to to take shots," center Alonzo Mourning said. "Guys are going to take up the slack. We've got guys in here who have been in those roles before, so when our number is called, we've got to produce, plain and simple. We've got to do everything a little bit better now."
Wade was on defense when his left arm collided with Houston's Shane Battier and awkwardly stretched back. Wade walked off the court hunched over in pain and sat on the bench in tears as his shoulder was examined. He then left in a wheelchair and went to a hospital by ambulance.
Wade bruised the same shoulder in a game Feb. 13 but played in the All-Star game Sunday.
For the Heat, Wade's departure was all too familiar. He already had missed seven games this season, O'Neal has been out 39 games, and starting point guard Jason Williams has missed 20.
In addition, Riley returned this week after been sidelined since Jan. 3 for operations to replace his left hip and repair cartilage in his right knee.
"Obviously injuries are a part of this game," Mourning said. "But it seems as though this year we've been behind the eight ball when it comes to injuries."
AP Sports Writers Tim Reynolds in Miami, Kristie Rieken in Houston and David Jimenez in Houston contributed to this report.

It might be probably better to take the surgery option for him. Listening to what kenny and charles said it seems like surgery is a must, its just a matter of when.
I think with rest after the off season surgery, he should be as good as new.

I say he takes the surgery. The Heat were not going to repeat anyways. Why put off surgery for what is going to be a losing cause?

I agree with AMARE, just do the surgery there aint no point of comin back this year to lose to the pistons and not even make it to the finals.

Good opportunity for the big guy to prove his worth to the team, beyond saving himself for the PO's. I think he'll pass the test. Whether or not the Heat do well in the PO's, look for Shaq to contribute in Wade's honor, seems like that's just how it is with those two. gush gush gush...
Get well Mr. 2006 Playoff MVP.

I might be the only one who caught this... but isn't it illegal to send letters via anything but the USPS?

No, legal documents are sent via overnight UPS, FED-EX, etc. daily.

Karma is Wade's season ending injury leading to Miami getting the first pick, drafting Oden, and taking out the Mavs in the finals for the next 3 years.

I don't see any way that Wade can have surgery and come back for the playoffs. He should just have the surgery and start fresh next year...he'll be risking having it not heal properly, or re-injury...
