Went with The Departed. Solid movie all around. Best of the year imo. I wouldn't mind if Little Miss Sunshine won though - Best Director should then go to Scorsese...

Best Actor will likely be Whitaker, but I'm pulling for O'Toole. He was excellent in Venus. Allan Arkin I hope wins Best Supporting Actor (with Walhberg a close second). Best Original Screenplay should be Pan's Labyrinth. Best Adapted Screenplay hopefully goes to Borat, and Best Cinematography to Children of Men... Best Original Score should have gone to The Fountain (Clint Mansell), but it was left off the ballot :/

My pick is The Departed, but I have a feeling it will not win.

Melmart1
02-24-2007, 06:32 PM
Isn't there some kind of streak where if a movie wins 'best director' it won't win 'best picture'? Or is that the other way around? I don't recall but if Scorsese wins for 'best director' (as he should) then I am not sure about 'the departed' winning for best picture.

Leonardo DeCaprio was robbed of the nomination for The Departed. Him getting the nomination for Blood Diamond is a way of the letting us know he's not going to get an Oscar and them saying, "but hey, he got nominated for something!". :pctoss

I'm not surprised.

I'm glad she took the coat off, too. It looks like Blanchett's Armani Prive was redone for her, because the runway version is knee-length. Blanchett looks amazing in the full-length version.

I'm glad she took the coat off, too. It looks like Blanchett's Armani Prive was redone for her, because the runway version is knee-length. Blanchett looks amazing in the full-length version.

Kelly Preston, on the other hand, looks pretty damn bad between the leopard print ... and the fact that it fits like sausage casing.

Thou shalt not wear tacky animal print on the red carpet.

Though shalt not wear a dress the same color as your hair.

Though shalt get a dress next year with seam allowance to avoid sausage casing.

The Little Miss Sunshine soundtrack is awesome...and I'm not just talking about the Rick James song. The film is scored by Devotchka and I just downloaded a few of their songs - most from Sunshine. The song "How it Ends" is great. I recommend it to everyone.

ShoogarBear - I don't know if you were just kidding about the Scottish accent thing. But Forrest plays Edi Amin, the former dictator of Uganda. He had a love for all things Scottish - he even wore kilts on occasion and sometimes referred to himself as the "last king of scotland"

Anyway, it's a fantastic movie, so definitely check it out. Pretty gory though.

The film is brilliant in my opinion and belonged up there with the others in the Best Film category. Forest Whittiker is unbelievable. He goes from being really charming and lovable to a total monster - like the real Idi Amin. His was the most deserved Oscar I've seen in years. He even learned Swahili for the film. it's a good drama and thriller.....the last 30 minutes are nail-biting.

Well, the Scottish doctor is completely fictional for one, but most of it's credible. Most things I've read about Amin would be unwatchable though.
