more specifically car audio products. i wants to gets some good quality speakers without having to pay an arm and a leg. first ill tell the basics i want, i want a new CD-radio deck with an audio in mini-jack for my iPod (preferably under or around $200), 6"x9" speakers (preferably in pairs and under or around $200 per pair), and a 10-12" inch sub-woofer (preferably under or around $250). also can someone explain to me in lame men's terms: what a car audio amplifier does? whether they actually work? if so, are they worth my money? one last thing if anyone is aware of any good review site for the mentioned products the info would be much appreciated.

Amps will do one of two things: Give you more power so you can annoy everybody in a 100 yards radius even with the windows rolled up and they will drive your speakers with more current which is something some speakers desperately need to sound good.

I personally like Polk audio speakers, but they are famous for requiring an additional amplifier. Now if such amplifier is available they sound great and are not that expensive (except the top models).

Some stores that you can go to that can be inexpensive if you wait until a sale goes on are: Best Buy, Circuit City, Fry's Electronics, Wal Mart, and Target. Once you find one that you like, research it online to make sure it's worth spending money on it.
