time: 7pm MT
venue: Erwin Center
line: ?
tv: ESPN2

thoughts: t.u. has been playing well in conference and is winners of their last 5, while only dropping one game @ home (in conference). A&M comes in needing, most likely, to win out to earn the Big 12 regular season title. A&M jumps on t.u. early an forces Durant into a poor shooting % as he had in College Station. Does t.u. get enough foul calls to make it a game? Does A&M's bench step up if needed?

prediction: A&M 83 t.u. 70

how the hell is t.u. #15 in the nation? talk about overrated...fuck. more like #25...and do any of the pollsters even watch the games? how the hell is Memphis ahead of A&M in the AP? their schedule is a joke.

oh, and Florida losing 2 of 3 to unranked opponents, and they fall to just 4? are you kidding me. at least be consistent, shit. either the polls work they way they always have or you keep the teams near the top that you think are best. make up your fucking mind...

If you had watched them play lately, you'd know they're playing better now than when we played them at Reed.

I expect it'll be closer. My guess: A&M 87. tu 81

of course i've seen them play. but if you remember, the only reason A&M didn't win by 30 was b/c of the fouls. i don't see t.u. getting that much of an advantage even in Austin. but, yeah, we won't win by almost 20...i think 13 is a good pick.

TAM has lost only one game by duoble digits all year(@LSU). the other 3 losses have been by 3pts or less. AM will be hard to beat in the tournament.....I think the are definite final four participants.

Both of these teams are in the tourne, regardless of what happens i this game. I give the game to A&M, because they're the only team that has that type of throtoling D hat i like, but they also have Acie on offense so I ont get to bored. Hmm, Im kinda sounding like a homer here, but I think Gillespie will have them in better awareness of foul trouble. If they hadnt had all that mess in the first game, the score would have benn much nastier. I also think you have to take the arenas into consideration here as well. Reed Arena ithink thats its name, is LOUD and I think it holds up to other top tier arenas as well. The Frank Erwin Center on the other hand is basically a library when compared to Reed, and you can immedietly tell the differences betwenn the two. Reed is buzzing with the student section, and the Erwin center is a round of applause after a nice play or a UT basket. But whatever. The arenas wont play the game for you, and I stand by the Aggies, who I think will not succumb to the upset bug in the brackets and become Final Four bound. Texas is one of my teams to watch for in the dance, along with Marquette and Air Force, and maybe some others that will catch my eye in the upcoming few weeks.

Simmons: "From everything I've seen this season, Wisconsin and Texas A&M are the two blowout-proof top-20 teams -- in other words, they're too balanced and smart and well-coached to get blown out of a game. That's a great quality for March, right? If I had to pick a Final Four right now, I'd go with Kansas, Wisconsin, Texas A&M and a Dark Horse To Be Named Later."

I've given up trying to guess who's going to be in the Elite 8, Final 4, etc. I still fill out a bracket to see just how blown up it'll get. George Mason over UConn? The mid-major explosion will probably continue this year so there will be some top teams getting dropped early.

I play golf with Gary and Vic during the Summer and Spring so I have a little more interest in women's bball than I used to. It is really great that if we win both games tonight, the aggies will have perhaps their best ever sports year against UT.

1. Beating UT in football

2. Beating them in basketball in men's and women's games, and winning conference in both.

That is no small feat.

It's hard for me to be disappointed. I don't blame the refs at all.

It was a great game and hopefully the Ags got their last loss of the season.

They actually messed up my prediction...after the first UT game, I said A&M would run the table until the Elite 8.

Man, it's at Kansas so it'll be tall order on Sat.
I hope not BUT, an emotional let down after this game is prob more like it.
It may be hard but very possible. Plus if Texas beats Kansas and A&M beats Mizzo then all 3 teams will be 13-3 in conference play.

AHF always does that.

Yep, you caught me. I have no grounds to stand on. All the BS reach ins on Jones when Pittman was trying to dry hump him from behind were legit.

And 3 A&M starters fouling out while no one from tu got more than 3 fouls was legit.

Not to mention the intentional on Law at the end of last overtime that wasn't called.

I knew we were going to get screwed in this game, just didn't expect it to be this bad. It's like after Acie hit the moonball three pointer over Durant to send it to OT, the refs said "fuck this, we're going to end this shit."

Maybe you're used to A&M's bad ass defense but they do hack man, and i doubt gillespie's entire gameplan depends on whether or not his players foul, he's like pop--they're supposed to foul...

I'm not saying we don't foul. If you think that, try reading again CBF. There is a difference between a foul and some of the "oh my God, you breathed on Durant's shadow, flagrant foul on you!" bullshit that was getting called tonight.

Yeah, there was inconsistency in (a) Damion Jones' FT shooting - I think he forgot how much he sucks at them tonight and (b) Durant picking up blocking calls on ticky-tack fouls and Acie/Jones/AK/Sloan/Kirk getting mugged about every 5 seconds out there.

RonMexico

A&M can usually weather such mistakes as 500 balls slipping through Marlon's hands and Sloan shooting a half court shot with years left on the clock, but not with 9000 FTAs by UT.

I've said this team is a Final 4 squad if they shoot 75% FTs (which they were doing about halfway through the Big 12 season). If they don't improve that soon, then it's all over. FTs will kill you at this level - and Acie's B2B turnovers were in the 1st OT... they had plenty of opportunities in the 2nd OT to pull it out.

Leave it to a couple of Aggie fans to come in here bitching about refs. I was first row - closer to the action than anyone here, and it was physical as hell. When you body up the ball handler you're gonna get a lot of pushes, bumps, and fouls. That's the way it is every game, and AM continued to do it and use their hands.

UT won with 4 freshman and a sophmore, and with the freshman making freshman mistakes. This one should have ended in regulation, but Durant let Law get a shot off instead of fouling with 3 - 4 seconds left. Law came with it tonight, great game and I only wish he could slip to the Spurs in the 1st round. They need a backup PG.

TEXAS A&M POSTGAME QUOTES
Billy Gillispie, Head Coach

"On Texas a team: We had to play a lot of help defense, and we fouled them too much. They went to the free throw line 41 times and we went only to 23 times, and that killed us. That was the most important thing, we fouled them too much and that made us have to use different line ups due to a couple of guys fouling out."

Billy Boy knew they were fouling. They couldn't keep Augustine or Durant in front of them all night without pushing and grabbing.

of course i've seen them play. but if you remember, the only reason A&M didn't win by 30 was b/c of the fouls. i don't see t.u. getting that much of an advantage even in Austin. but, yeah, we won't win by almost 20...i think 13 is a good pick.

how the hell is t.u. #15 in the nation? talk about overrated...fuck. more like #25...and do any of the pollsters even watch the games?

you're gonna get smoked...

then you better get ready to go to jail. cause A&M is coming in to complete our ownage of t.u. this year...pal.

only about 4 hours till A&M beats that ass...

In all fairness to both sides... UT should have won this game on several occasions. They made a ton of silly frosh mistakes at the end and the only offense the ags had were 4 miracle 3's (2 each by Law and AK). Other than that, their offense was nil in the OTs. The mistakes not to foul Law in regulation, the silly turnovers - to include throwing it away on an inbounds play, almost let the ags win.

I thought it was a very sloppy game both ways.

The best atm can finish in the B12 is a 3-way tie, with UT coming out on top and atm the #2 seed. I still think KU beats UT at home and wins outright.

Nice assessment. Aggies have a hard time when the refs call ticky tack fouls(they are fouls) They play solid in your face defense, like Bruce Bowen and when the refs feel like calling every foul, the Aggies have to adjust their style. Billy going to zone was out of neccessity, not a brilliant move, like the announcers said it was.

I guess I could take the low road made well known by jgw and say we now 'own' a&m in basketball and that Barne's owns Gillespie, but I have more respect for myself than that (and also understand jgw isn't representative of all ag posters on this board).

In the end it was just an amazing performance by two well coached, talented basketball teams. Law is just a stone cold killer when making shots, when he put up that one at the end of regulation I found myself expecting it to go in, big surprise...it did.

Durant maybe the best 18 year old basketball player I've ever seen. I thought they didn't try to get the ball to him enough in the OT's but he made some huge shots. Damien James in particular picked a great night to have his best overall game of the season, very impressive.

The last thing I'll say here is that it's great to have this level of basketball in Texas at this time of the year. Not on the East coast, or the West coast, or in the Southeast.....in TEXAS. The offensive foul on AK in first 2 mins was Horrible, the foul on Carter against Durrant was Horrible, the Offensive foul on Acie was Horrible, the foul on JJ against Pitman was Horrible(Pitman was juggling the ball, JJ was just trying to get the ball along with another player)

This make 2 straight games that the Ags got jobbed by refs in this series, but that is just the breaks. The Ags have to find a way to win when the calls go against them.

Bad Calls or not Joe Jones needs to start thinking when he's in foul trouble. Too often he'll have 3 or 4 fouls and put himself in a position to potentially get that pivotal 4th or 5th one called on him because of bad positioning or being too aggressive. His 5th foul last night was one that could've been easily avoided yet he got too far up on the penetration and stuck his thigh out. Same thing with D-Kirk going up for that loose ball on the inbounds play. Had he stayed in position he probably would've gotten the steal without picking up his 5th foul. The refs called the game ticky tack from the beginning and the ags have to adjust. Outside of that they played their asses off so the loss doesnt hurt me that bad. We're still a number 2 and are in great position going into the Big 12 tourney. Hopefully Texas can knock off Kansas and have us finish in a tie for the regular season title.

Dude he would be perfect for the spurs, but I think after last night's heroics he just may be out of the spur's picking range.. The thing is, everybody watching this game, aggie or horn alike, knew that first crazy 3 was going in the second he launched it.
As for the FT babble, texas A&m made plenty of mistake and the game was physical from halftime onward...do you really think there was no bumping going on with A&M's full court defense (which btw they ran to near perfection)???? They didn't call shit, and were rewarded with two texas turnovers.
Bottom line is our inexperience showed up and yall were playing on the road, get over it....its not like gillespie plays 2-3 and 3-2 zone for 50% of the game, no, your defenders are running everywhere throwing forearms and bodies everywhere.

What a great way for Kevin Durant to end his last game at Texas: with a win over their biggest rival. Acie Law will be lucky to get past #20 the way his stock has gone up. I also wouldnt mind seeing Kavalauskas, or however you spell it, going to us in the 2nd round, but thats a foregone conclusion, and I dont think many people here would be really excited to see him here, but for me at least Id be OK with it , but with Horry Duncan and Oberto and Elson in front of him on his position in the depth chart, which I think is either power foward or center, he'd be wasting away, plus i dont think he might enter the draft.
