Nice column.

I agree. The Spurs have work to do, but they're going to be a legitimate contender in the Spring when it counts.
Also… remember that NBA General Managers poll prior to the start of the season. Most GMs picked San Antonio to win it all, though very few picked them to win the division.

That's exactly what I've been talking about all season long, but few pepole would agree with me

Guy with the mixed up proverbs in the beginning....like the Irish bartender at McGinty's with the terrets. How long does it take someone to chime in on the movie....?

“I think what is important is a group of men understanding that the real job is to get better as the season moves along and to be at your best at the end,” Popovich told USA Today’s David Dupree earlier this month. “Houston did it from behind, L.A. has done it both ways, we've done it both ways.”
Pop's quote of the century!

Finally some writers with some sense around the NBA world. Is it (gasp) possible that Dallas isn't the ONLY contender for the championship?
Glad that at least one writer pulled his head out of Dallas' ass.

While I agree that the Spurs will have a legitimate chance come playoff time, the writer makes it seem like the Mavs are a high powered offense with no defense. That's obviously not the case anymore.

No one is "sleeping" on the Spurs. The Mavs have said all along that Spurs are the team to beat.
Besides that, I have a couple of issues with that article. In 2003 Dirk going down in the WCFs was a big part of that story. Also, as everyone knows, game 7 last year was played in SA.

Well, the team to beat is technically the Miami Heat. And the team to beat in the West is Dallas since they won the conference last season. That's pretty indisputable right about now.

From the Mavs perspective the Spurs are the team to beat. No disrespect to the Suns.
If the Heat make the playoffs they might be the team to beat.

Most Mav fans knew the Spurs would begin to get their act together for a while now so I don't think the Mavs or Mav fans was sleeping. Well hopefully they wasn't.

All smack aside, I really hope that the Spurs get to face the Mavs in the playoffs. It would be an epic series and will be fun to see the Spurs go into it as an underdog. Even though everyon knew Dallas would be very tough last year, I think that deep down most Spurs fans thought they'd get by Dallas. This year it'll be fun for both sets of fans because Dallas fans gets to feel it from the driver's seat, while Spurs fans dig their boots in for a tough fight. Should be epic!
