I'm actually not complaining that you are here (well I could do without a couple of you); I'm just curious about the status of the Mavs forums.

Bullshit there's always something to talk about when it comes to basketball. Not every thread in the spurs forum is about this season. There's threads about past years, the spurs future, future prospects and so on. I'm pretty sure the mavs have more going on then Dirks race for MVP.

I think a lot of the issue that these message board Mavs fans have with the Spurs is that for years, not only were we the little brother the Spurs beat up on, Spurs fans made sure we knew that we were the little brother the Spurs beat up on. In general Spurs fans take personal offense to someone being a Dallas fan, and treat them like it (meaning like crap). I like this forum bc of the variety of things to talk about in the midst of NBA/Spurs/Mavs forums, there's also politics, a good name-callin' session, flirting... lol... it gets crazy. And I think alot of fans in general come here bc ppl are actually articulate in expressing their thots to each other. Yes, there are the normal idiots... but for the most part, ppl on this forum are well-versed and know how to say this is my point and end the statement without tossin out a b-word, douche, etc... but there are some that tend to go that way.

However - there are Spur fans who are just as rude to the Mav fans on their forums too... Fans are like that everywhere. True some Mav fans did come over here and deserve to be banned from the internet forever bc of their immaturity, but I have seen my fair share of Spur fans/Piston fans/Heat fans/ whoever fans talkin the same smack all across many boards...

FWST had a good forum before Knightridder sold all of their stuff and the forum was discontinued. Mavscentral and Dallasbasketball.com both are good Mavs forums also. I think that the main reason for so many Mavs posters over here is that it is more fun to debate with fans from many other teams than just talking about your team with only other fans of your team. The FWST had that as well. There were alot of Spurs, Kings, Lakers, Suns posters over there to keep things lively....

I was a big fan of DRob, but I was just an NBA fan in general not a Spurs fan. I grew up in Phoenix so I watched the Suns a lot. I went to college and then lived in LA for a long time, so I had 1/2 season of tickets to Clippers and 1/2 season to Lakers for a few years. That way I could watch as many good teams as possible. And I was a big fan of the Jazz.

I was a fan of Tim's at Wake and then followed him to the Spurs. But I wasn't really into the Spurs goody-goody image, so I wasn't a real Spurs fan for a long time. Even when I first started posting on SpursReport (2000?) I wasn't that big of a Spurs fan.

That's what I thought, too. I figured that board was somehow directly linked to the Mavericks organization.

As an aside, I generally don't despise the Mavericks, but I'm quite put off by many Mavericks' fans. It would be one thing if the vast majority were bringing good basketball viewpoints, the way that some Suns fans did and the way that Detroit fans overwhelmingly did in 2005. Instead, we seem to get mostly venom and smack, with only the occasional good basketball talk mixed in. There are clearly exceptions among individual posters, but on the whole, I don't find that Mavs fans bring much of value to the table.

Perhaps it's just me, and perhaps I'm jaded by having had Mavs fan spit on my friend's 13-year-old daughter at Game 3 of the playoff series last year. In any event, I suppose a variety of viewpoints can't be a bad thing, even if many of the views expressed aren't particularly principled.

One more thing, the thought of Cuban coming around here to spew his garbage takes doesn't seem so far-fetched when I read some of the posts that some of our Mavs friends post around here.

I miss throwing "KINGS" stuff out there in the NBA forum to discuss, and sometimes agoraphobia sets in and it's tough to get out of our little forum. Especially since Kings are playing less than desirable b-ball this year.

As an aside, I generally don't despise the Mavericks, but I'm quite put off by many Mavericks' fans. It would be one thing if the vast majority were bringing good basketball viewpoints, the way that some Suns fans did and the way that Detroit fans overwhelmingly did in 2005. Instead, we seem to get mostly venom and smack, with only the occasional good basketball talk mixed in. There are clearly exceptions among individual posters, but on the whole, I don't find that Mavs fans bring much of value to the table.

Perhaps it's just me, and perhaps I'm jaded by having had Mavs fan spit on my friend's 13-year-old daughter at Game 3 of the playoff series last year. In any event, I suppose a variety of viewpoints can't be a bad thing, even if many of the views expressed aren't particularly principled.

One more thing, the thought of Cuban coming around here to spew his garbage takes doesn't seem so far-fetched when I read some of the posts that some of our Mavs friends post around here.

:) Thanks, but no...the P.O.'s aren't going to help Kings. There is a dropoff on other boards as well, naturally. Was a tough year to try and get a Kings forum going, for sure.

In my experience the Mavs forums are horrible- filled with chest thumping bandwagoners, immature smack talking adolescents and seeming idiots who know very little about basketball.

Not that there aren't some of each of these on SpursTalk but the overall IQ and "fun factor" are much higher here. Even though I don't post here that often, I usually come here every morning to check out the latest BS...and to delay working a little longer!

This looks like ungrounded smack talk as well. After all, there's plenty of meaningless banter on this forum that can be a real pain to sift through. At least at d-m.com, there are people who tell the kiddos who are already celebrating the championship to lay off the kool-aid a bit. I hope the same happens here as well.

I know there arent alot of good Mavs forums around but for me, D-M.com is a cut above all. D-M.com is my home forum. Posters there are the best, solid, and real decent. You just have to get to know them better, thats all. I like it here for the occasional smack talk, plus posters here arent really that bad. Though our teams are considered rivals, I have a decent amount of respect for any Spurs fan and posters from other teams fanbase too. Plus, Kori is a cool mod in my book. So, pardon the intrusion if that's how it looks like. Peace
