He is passing very well tonight. He is also hitting his open shots. As well as playing good D to add.

We need a good ball distributor and playmaker. Vaughn is doing well in that aspect lately.

Kudos to him.

He's hitting his open shots too and he hustles his butt off for a 37 year old man.

yeah, I was a little doubtful about his competence in his first games. But he passes and runs the floor pretty adequately.

As long as he keeps us from being in the negative. He's fine by me. :tu

Beno's regressed to the point where he's just barely better than you or I are, and we aren't even on the team.

Don't count on him hitting shots in the playoffs. Just defense and not turning the ball over.

yeah, I'm a lot less on edge, when he passes. I always get nervous when they HAVE to kick it out to him cuz he's open. But at least he takes the open shot. Even though he really has no jumper at all.

pretty good defense

AST/TO = 2.5

Too bad he shoots for shit: 35% FG (Spurs team shoots 47%), and 70% FTs

I like that he knows his limitations. He won't force shots. He only shoots it if no one is within a zip code of him. Mostly he just passes it to Manu and gets the hell out of the way. Smart.

He can't do much harm taking 2 shot per game.

He shoots 43% career, but 35% for the Spurs. Pop's reverse Midas touch.

Vaughn looked great but so did most of his teammates tonight. The Spurs were tough, physical and playing with energy. They doubled hard. They outworked the Magic on the boards from the 1st quarter-on.

That 3rd quarter lineup of Vaughn, Ginobili, Finley, Oberto and Horry who subbed-out with Duncan was terrific. Active hands on defense, creating turnovers and drawing the charge. That hustle play by Finley going out of bounds and throwing it between one of the Magic players' legs to Vaughn was awesome. Oberto was rebounding and setting screens for Manu. The ball movement was good. Manu was lighting up the scoreboard. Spurs took it from a 6 point lead to a 20 point lead in just a few minutes with that group.

It's about time you guys started liking Vaughn. I've loved him since they signed him. He's not the best player, but he does a solid job, and hustles on every play. And he might not have the sweetest jump shot, but he will take an open shot, and he hits them too. Like someone said on this thread, he also reminds me of what Speedy Claxton brought to this team when he was here. Pretty good backup if you ask me.

Vaughn is playing adequately. In comparison to Beano, he is Oscar Freaking Robertson.

I like Vaughn's hustle and attitude but I fear that's not going to get things done in the playoffs. I'm still pissed that the FO didn't pick up someone like Atkins who can spread the floor and score. When Dallas is smothering all our guys and Vaughn starts bricking open shots, I don't think we'll see many appreciation threads.

Playoff series outcomes can often come down to the production of role players and I just don't think Vaughn has the talent to hang with Harris or Barbosa, or to hit open jumpers when it matters. I hope I'm wrong.

He's given the spurs what they desperately needed. Beno is a huge reason why this team struggled early.

Elson playing much better has helped too.

Then you would've been pissed when he let guys drive past him easily on defense, and can hardly make a shot when it was "clutch" time.

So piss off with that bunk.

Vaughn's defense and hustle, despite any offensive shortcomings, is a big upgrade over last year's veteran backup point guard.

True, but that's not saying much either. The Van Exel experiment will go down as one of Pop's biggest failures ever. That he stuck with him to the bitter end, all the way into the postseason was insane imo. Van Exel clearly had nothing left and it shouldn't have taken the entire season to determine that.

We better hope Vaughn is enough this year because he's all we've got at this point unless Manu or Barry pull some minutes at pg. Like I said, I love his D and his hustle but when defenses start doubling off him in the postseason, he better bring something or we're gonna suffer.

Vaughn isn't an horrible shooter. People have this feeling because he has shoot really bad at the start of the season.

He has not 3 point range but he is decent to shoot 20 footer.

Vaughn stats for 16-24ft shoots :
04-05 : 81/174 (46.6%)
05-06 : 56/144 (38.9%)
06-07, last 10 games (since he has the backup PG spot) : 9/21 (42.9%)

Another interesting thing to note is that more than 50% of his shoots come from this area.

I agree completely. I was questioning last year if Pop was playing VanEx in those playoff games as a favor to our opponent. One of his more bizarre coaching decisions I thought. More than likely his playing Nicky V was a reflection of his lack of confidence in Beno, or perhaps his memories of Van Exel from his Dallas, scratch that, Cincinatti days.

Pop likes to give other teams a fighting chance in those even-numbered years.

Best defense out of any of the Spurs point guards...Who cares what he shoots...He only takes a couple shots anyway.

Its no coincidence Manu and Finley have been playing better...Its because they are playing with the second unit with Jacque running the point. The ball movement is MUCH better than with that first crew which is dominated by Tim and Tony handling the ball. Especially Tony. Jacque gets everyone involved and they are able to get touchs and rhythm going in the game.

Beno is a huge reason why this team struggled early.

I'm not here to defend Beno, but a huge reason? Isn't that going a bit far?

This team has lost a lot of close games - I'm guessing Beno probably wasn't in during the last two minutes for most of those losses.

Anyway, Jacque Vaughn=what Anthony Carter was supposed to be.
