Looks like Mike Brown definitely brought one thing over with him from Pop:

We noted in a recent column that LeBron James's free throw shooting was becoming a concern for him and his team. Well, he boinged two big ones against the Mavericks Thursday night in a tight game, and the folks at Elias note that James is shooting a Montrossian 58.7 percent in the final five minutes of games (or in overtime) when the lead is 4 points or less. He's shooting a not-so-great 68.4 percent in other situations. Cleveland entered yesterday as the worst free throw shooting team in the league, with rotation regulars James, Larry Hughes, Donyell Marshall, Damon Jones, Anderson Varejao, and Eric Snow all at less than 70 percent. Prior to this season, all of the above gents save for Varejao had career averages well above 70 percent.

Inside Dish: LeBron reconsidering Olympic tourney

By Dave D'Alessandro - SportingNews

Cavaliers SF LeBron James is having second thoughts about participating in this summer's Olympic qualifying tournament, which is a monthlong commitment. Valid reason: "I have to think about getting some rest," he says. Too often this season, his game has showns it. . . .

Jerry Reynolds, the Kings' resident sage, still talks to former coach Rick Adelman often. And maybe this is something the rest of the league should know: The great coach no longer feels anchored to the West Coast; his youngest child will graduate from high school in Oregon this summer. Upshot: "He'd come East if it's the right job," Reynolds says. That could come as welcome news to coach shoppers from Boston to Charlotte. . . .

From the 2006 World Championships Casualty File: Entering the week, SF Andres Nocioni (foot) had missed 11 of 12 games, and now the Bulls fear that he could be lost for the rest of the regular season. . . .

Remember Mark Pope, former 12th man par excellence? He's in his first year at Columbia Medical School. He says his classmates know he played in the NBA, "but to have actually seen me play, you had to be a die-hard fan." The last guy to make the jump from the NBA to medicine was former Heat F/C Alec Kessler, who now practices in Charlotte. Heat C Michael Doleac undoubtedly will also enter the field after his playing days are over. . . .

At last look, the Mavericks were 11-0 in the second game of back-to-backs. They have five back-enders left. No team has ever lost fewer than two back-end games in a season. . . .

If you're keeping score at home, that 31-point game by Heat C Shaquille O'Neal against Detroit last week was his first 30-plus game in 302 days. . . .

The Suns nearly became the first team in history to sweep its interconference road schedule. The 76ers held off Phoenix last week, mostly because the guy the Suns should have drafted in 2004 (SF Andre Iguodala) burned them for 16 points in the second half. The 1982-83 76ers--who went on to win the NBA title--are the only other team to finish with one loss on the road in interconference play. . . .

SF Rashard Lewis was offered a two-year, $25 million extension by the Sonics last week, and he turned it down. He'll opt out of his current deal and play the market this summer. . . .

Nets SG Vince Carter is likely to opt out and leave $16.3 million on the table, but Nets owner Bruce Ratner says the team will do all it can to hold on to him. Believe it when you see it: The Nets never made Carter an extension offer last summer, and though his game has picked up recently, the team is likely to pursue sign-and-trade opportunities when the market opens.
