After the last couple weekends we have a big letdown coming up...only 1 "big" event in March, and I'm not sure if it's available on PPV or not. It should play on the Vs channel at some point though...

WEC MARCH 24

Tuesday nights on the ION channel there are free Bodogfights (2 fights per episode). Keep an eye out for those... (search your guide for bodog and you should find...it's a standard channel)

But April will be wicked...

- PRIDE (3RD USA SHOW): APRIL 28 (**CANCELLED**)

Not only has the April 28th Pride US show been cancelled, but the president of Pride US is suing DSE...ouch.

http://evilmaster-mma.blogspot.com/2007/03/pride-cancels-next-planned-us-show.html

They still have a show in the US scheduled for July, but...

It doesn't appear that Pride is going to stick with most of the US fans, which is a shame. People are talking about how great UFC 68 was but if you saw Pride 33 last weekend you'd know that there was no comparison. 9 fights vs 5 for the same $40 for starters... (unless you paid $50 for UFC in HD). The best card I've seen in quite some time. I think some of the UFC cards this year could potentially match it. UFC 70, 71, and 72 are all looking REALLY good so far...

also, all 10 fighters that were drug tested after Pride 33 passed their tests...
http://www.sherdog.com/news/articles.asp?n_id=6900

Honestly I'd rather watch Pride under Pride rules anyway, so if they're done with live events in the US it's not the end of the world. As good as Pride 33 was, it probably would've been even better under Pride rules in Japan...

The Pride LW tourny is going to be wicked this year (starts on May 5th)... :fro

We can use this thread for updates on the next month or so... :hat

Mir, Joslin, and Torres removed from next UFN card...3 TBA's on it now.

I wonder if they're setting up Mir - Sylvia 2 since Tim lost? Would be a good way for them to let Tim avenge the broken arm and build him back up some with another win...

I like Tito alot in that one. He will bring Evans back down to earth in a hurry.

UFC 71 — May 26, 2007 (Las Vegas, Nev.)

Chuck Liddell vs. TBA
Tito Ortiz vs. Rashad Evans
Karo Parisyan vs. Josh Burkman
Eric Schafer vs. Sean Salmon
Chris Leben vs. Kalib Starnes

I want to see Fitch fight Karo instead of Burkman. Salmon??? WTF is he doing on a UFC card???

LEONARD
03-08-2007, 12:29 PM
I've been begging for a Rashad loss for a while. Finally a really good test for him...

I think we'll see Fitch replace Burkman before too long...

and Salmon was holding his own pretty well til he got his head kicked off. Not saying he'll be the next big thing, but I don't have a big problem with him getting another shot to show what he can do. He probably signed a 3 fight deal or something. He should handle Shafer...

New Dana White interview...maybe we do see Chuck vs Rampage @ 71...hmmm...

UFCJunkie.com (http://ufcjunkie.com/2007/03/09/dana-white-liddell-vs-jackson-evans-vs-ortiz-ufc-70-on-spike-tv-and-a-whole-lot-more/)

Recap:

-Randy Couture will next fight the winner of Mirko “Cro Cop” Filipovic and Gabriel Gonzaga, who battle in the main event of UFC 70. This, essentially, means Couture’s first title defense will be against Cro Cop.

-Anderson Silva will “probably” fight Nate Marquardt next. (UFCjunkie.com first broke this story last month, and it better damn well happen. Marquardt’s been jerked around too often lately.)

-White “would have to say yes” that Matt Hughes is next in line for a title shot (current champ Georges St. Pierre faces Matt Serra at UFC 69 next month).

-On whether or not PRIDE Fighting Championships is for sale, White conceded that he isn’t really sure. As he says of PRIDE executives, “That’s a wacky bunch of people.”

-On a Wrestling Observer report that the contract that Brandon Vera turned down was worth $200,000 per fight: “No, I don’t think that is true.” White said that his next fight — the last on Vera’s current contract and possibly last fight in the UFC — hasn’t been scheduled.

-On UFC 70 and on our report earlier today that UFC 70 could end up on Spike TV rather than HBO: “UFC 70 will be on free television. It’s going to be a free TV deal for the fans here in the U.S.” He confirmed it will “probably” be on Spike TV.

-On his March 24 boxing match with Tito Ortiz: “I’ve been training hard every day and it’s kicking the s— out of me. This was the dumbest thing I’ve ever done. But yes, I’m following it through, and I’m giving it 100 percent… There’s going to be a show about the fight on Spike and then the actual fight itself will be on UFC.com.”

-As far as Tito Ortiz’s opponent for UFC 71: “We are talking about Rashad Evans right now.” (Obviously, that’s not exactly a definite, so stay tuned.)
When asked if Chuck Liddell will fight Quinton “Rampage” Jackson for the title at UFC 71, White says: “Most likely.” (UFCjunkie.com note: Liddell vs. Jackson and Ortiz vs. Evans on the same card? Wow!)

-On recent reports (check out mmanews.com and CBS Sportsline.com) that PRIDE USA Vice President Jerry Millen had unflattering things to say about him, including calling White “a bitch” at one point: “The guy’s an idiot. Pride is in a situation right now where they’re in trouble, and they’re trying to grab for anything they can on the way down, so I think that’s why Jerry Millen is even being put in a position right now where he’s even allowed to speak publicly. I can tell you this, and I’ve been in a million meetings with Pride’s upper management for a lot of different things, and Jerry Millen has never been in any of them.”

-On whether or not Travis Lutter will fight again in the UFC after failing to make weight for his title fight with Anderson Silva (and ultimate losing): ” I don’t know. You know, I’m pretty mad at Travis. I’m pretty upset with him. It’s very unprofessional and very irresponsible to come in the way that he came in. It’s crazy.”

-On the UFC possibly starting a 145-pound featherweight division: “No, I don’t think we will anytime soon. That’s why we did it in the WEC.”

Jeff Joslin out of UFN. DAMMIT! I wanted to see him fight!

"On Friday I mentioned that Jeff Joslin — as well as Frank Mir and Anthony Torres — had been removed from the latest UFC Fight Night 9 rumored fight card.

Yesterday we learned that Mir’s removal resulted from a nagging shoulder injury.

And according to The Fight Network, Joslin was also bumped from the card because of injury:

An undisclosed injury has forced Canadian welterweight Jeff Joslin to pull out of his scheduled bout with Kuniyoshi Hironaka (10-3) at the upcoming Spike TV-presented UFC Fight Night on April 5 at The Pearl in The Palms Casino & Resort in Las Vegas, Nevada.

Joslin, a Brazilian jiu-jitsu black belt who has a strong following back in his native Canada, was brought into the organization this past December to face rising welterweight contender Josh Koscheck at UFC Fight Night 7. Although Koscheck had shown impressive striking in his previous win over Jonathan Goulet, the former NCAA Division I national wrestling champion reverted primarily to his wrestling skills to win rounds against Joslin.

Joslin entered the fight an underdog, and it was obvious the Fight Night crowd, which was comprised of U.S. soldiers at the Marine Corps Air Station Miramar, threw its support behind the UFC newcomer. Unfortunately, Joslin lost via unanimous decision.

There’s no word when Joslin, who has two fights remaining on his current three-fight contract, might compete next."

We caught it last night. They showed some great fights, yes, but the promotion of it was crap. I just rolled my eyes every time they showed the "stretcher scene" and at one point my husband actually yelled out loud :lol . There were some high points (extra interviews with Bas, Don Frye and a couple of the other coaches and fighters), but overall it had a very WWE-ish feel to it.

The stretcher scene made me sick. At one point in the 25 minutes of crap before the first fight, the VO actually said "And somebody will go home in a stretcher tonight" as they showed an image of the fighter being carried out. It was very tacky. At this point I switched channels and tuned back in later.

- IFL COMMISH KURT OTTO APOLOGIZES

An obviously humbled Kurt Otto, Commissioner of the International Fight League, took to the airwaves of MMAWeekly Radio last night and not only faced the firestorm of criticism following the IFL’s debut on network television, but apologized to the fans, athletes and coaches that were disappointed with the initial episode of IFL Battleground on MyNetworkTV:

“I would like to apologize on behalf of the IFL and MyNetwork if we upset or disappointed anybody in the MMA world. We’re all about MMA being seen in a positive light. In this instance, we dropped the ball and we promise to make everybody proud. We realize as a group that we made a mistake with some parts of the show, but we will learn from this and grow. We want to make this the best possible platform for the sport as possible. The IFL would also like to apologize to our athletes and our coaches. We promise that it will be corrected and we as a group will learn from this.”

Otto realized that a huge mistake was made and didn’t shy away from facing it. “I look at an organization like the UFC and they have really accomplished some unbelievable things and I don’t want this to be viewed as something that sets the sport back five or ten years. I really think that’s making a mountain out of a molehill. I think the sensationalism that occurred on the show last night was overdone. It was not our intention to upset anybody. This was a decision that was made and it was shown,” said Otto.

He continued by explaining a little bit about the dynamics of how the more upsetting moments of IFL Battleground, such as the constant promo of a fighter leaving on a stretcher made it to air. “It was made as a group. Sometimes as a group we debate each other on certain views or style or design or how it’s produced… If we respect each other’s opinions, sometimes we have to take risks. Ultimately, it probably backfired. But as a group, meaning IFL and MyNetwork, we made a mistake and we’re going to correct it.”

Otto was clear to point out that IFL Battleground is a docu-drama type of show, not like the FSN shows that were designed to be fight shows in a traditional sports manner. But he also was clear that what took place on IFL Battleground’s initial episode was not indicative of the future of the show.

“What happened [Monday] night is not what we’re going to do. Ultimately I’m proud of some parts of it and disappointed in others. It will get better, I promise. I can guarantee that the next show is going to be night and day and will be seen in a positive light.”

Talking specifically about the “fighter leaving on a stretcher” promos, Otto had this to say: “It wasn’t a good idea. There is a review process that Gareb and I have. As a group, we were not happy about that particular section. It was asked to be corrected, but by the time we got that, it was too late, we tried to correct it. I think there was a little bit of confusion on the network’s view on the show and our view on the show, but I think that has been corrected. It’s a give and take and it has to be done right. And that was a conversation that Gareb had with the network today. When I saw that part… I wanted to go out on a stretcher myself. That was over the top. It was a mistake.”

The details surrounding dealing with a network definitely make for a difficult situation, but Otto was clear to reiterate that it would not happen again. “150% guaranteed [it will not happen again]. It was silly. There’s no other way to say it. It was very, very upsetting to us. I mean, look what we’re doing today. We’re trying to scramble and explain it to you,” said Otto.

Addressing the pressures of the IFL becoming a public company, Otto stated, “The IFL is no longer the Kurt and Gareb show, we’re accountable. It’s positive pressure for us to take this to the next level and grow. We’re taking on Battleground and we’re going to get it right. We as a company and the network, we apologize and I promise you guys that you will see a night and day difference [as Battleground continues].”

In his appearance on MMAWeekly Radio, Otto also explained the production process and some of the details surrounding how things came out the way they did for the premier episode of IFL Battleground. Before he left, Damon & Jeff also talked to the Commissioner about the IFL’s next show this Saturday night at The Forum in Los Angeles.

I think Jardine has a better chance against Chuck than Forrest. Either one would be decimated, but I don't think Keith would go down as quickly as Griffin would.

2.) Corey Hill, a 6"4' 155lber, is apparently a key figure throughout the season. Since Corey is black, Meltzer felt a need to point out that he is the best natural athlete out the bunch--I wouln't be suprised if we heard some comments about his explosiveness throughout the season.
3.) All the execs in UFC and Spike feel it is the best season yet!!
4.) On the other end of the height spectrum is Manuel--Karo Parysian's cousin and a very accomplished judoka--coming in at a whopping height of 5"3.

New Tim Sylvia interview...
http://www.baltimoresun.com/sports/custom/mma/bal-sylviaqa315,0,284187.story?coll=bal-mma-headlines

One-on-one with UFC's Tim Sylvia
Q&A with the former UFC heavyweight champion
By Pramit Mohapatra
Special to Baltimoresun.com

Former UFC heavyweight champion Tim Sylvia lost his title to Randy Couture March 3 at UFC 68. Leading up to the fight, Sylvia was criticized for his lackluster title defenses against Andrei Arlovski and Jeff Monson in 2006. Public sentiment turned against the Sylvia, and he was frequently booed during the Couture bout by the Columbus, Ohio, crowd.

I talked to Sylvia by phone March 13 about his current state of mind, his upcoming plans and his reaction to the reception he received from the fans at UFC 68. I was told before the interview started that Sylvia would not discuss the fight with Couture itself.

First of all, how is your body feeling 10 days after your UFC 68 fight?

I got injured during the fight and I had a doctor's appointment today. I have a herniated disc in my lower back.

And this happened during the fight?

Well, I was injured before the fight and we weren't sure exactly what happened but we had an idea that that's what it was. I just got diagnosed with it today -- [I've] got a herniated disc pinching my sciatic nerve.

So, I couldn't train. I trained my [butt] off for the fight cardio-wise. But I couldn't do a lot of stuff on the ground because my sciatic nerve wouldn't let me.

How are you feeling mentally?

Um, I was pretty bummed out -- [I] couldn't believe I lost. But I went home for a week to Maine and hung out with a lot of close friends and family and they were really supportive. They don't give a [darn] if I win or lose. As long as I stay the same, and I've stayed the same, you know?

Before you fought Couture, there were reports that made it seem like you coveted the heavyweight belt. For example, there were reports that you carried it wherever you went.

Yeah, none of that stuff is true.

What did it mean to you to have the belt?

It meant a lot. It meant I was recognized as the best guy in the world. It means a lot. I still feel I'm one of the best in the world. I had a bad night.

How does it feel now to have lost the belt?

It sucks. I come home and I have two other belts on my TV that I look at. And it's like, [darn] I'm no longer the champ -- it sucks.

After the match, in your post-fight interview with Joe Rogan, you alluded to your back injury. Do you think it was a mistake to bring that up right after the fight?

Yeah, not that it was a mistake … Randy beat me fair and square. Plain and simple. He was the better man that night. He beat me. So, I shouldn't have even brought it up.

Could you give us more details about the injury, for example when it occurred and how it occurred?

It happened about four weeks ago during training for the fight, defending takedowns and stuff like that. Wrestling with big guys you get hurt. I kept training, and [the injury] got worse and worse.

So you're saying it happened about three weeks before the fight itself?

Yes, that's exactly when it happened.

Did you consider pulling out of the match?

Yeah, I did.

How is your back feeling now?

It hurts. It's the worst it's been right now. I just got my MRI yesterday and I got diagnosed with everything so they put me on the pain medication -- some oral steroids, [I] go in for a cortisone shot [March 16] -- and they're hoping if I take one month off from training that it should get better.

UFC President Dana White said in the UFC 68 post-fight news conference that he thought you were "overconfident" going into the fight. Do you feel you were overconfident?

No, not at all.

White also said in the UFC 68 post-fight press conference that you have an "image problem." Do you agree with his assertion?

I have an image problem? What does he mean by that? Explain it to me.

He didn't elaborate on that.

Well, if he can't elaborate, neither can I … I don't know. I always have a self-esteem problem. I was physically and mentally abused as a child, growing up with my mother. So, I think it still sticks with me to this day that I have a problem with that.

As a fighter, what do you do when you hear the booing from the crowd?

I just block it out, man. That's gonna happen. A lot of the fans still aren't quite educated about all the stuff that's going on in a fight.

Did the booing surprise you at all?

A little bit.

Why do you think the UFC 68 crowd was so merciless to you?

I was fighting a legend, a Hall of Famer -- Randy Couture. He's everyone's idol. He's 43 years old, coming out of retirement, fighting me and everybody was rooting for him.

Given the outcome of your UFC 68 fight and some of the criticism you have received for your previous two title defenses, are you planning on changing your game plan or changing your style in upcoming fights?

Not at all. Not at all.

At a time like this, having just lost the title, where do you draw your strength to move forward?

I want to win my next fight. I'm on the road back to the belt. That's what I want to get. Every fight is one step closer to the belt.

What's the next step for Tim Sylvia?

Just to get healthy -- 100% -- and get back in the gym and start training and working on my next fight.

How much time will you take off before you start training again?

They told me I'm going to take at least one month off. I have another appointment [sometime in the next] two weeks after my cortisone shot [March 16]. Once that's done I will figure out what I need to do.

Have you had any conversations about when your next fight will be?

Nope. I haven't talked to the UFC at all.

What is your contract situation with the UFC?

I have three fights left on my contract.

Do you think you deserve an immediate title rematch?

I would like to think so. I think I do. But, I don't know if they are going to give it to me or not. I don't know.

If you can't get an immediate title rematch, which UFC heavyweight would you like to fight next?

I want to fight Frank Mir … He broke my arm a couple of years ago so we have some unfinished business to take care of.

A year ago the Miletich camp had two titles -- Matt Hughes and you -- and three titles if you include close associate Rich Franklin. Now, your camp has none. What is the mood of the Miletich camp right now?

No one cares about that stuff. We're all in this to fight and all fighters lose at some time. Just because no one is wearing the belt in our camp anymore doesn't mean anything. We're all out there to have fun and get up every morning and do what we love to do and that's fight.

Do you guys feel like your day to reign supreme will come again soon?

Oh, it sure will.

And you mentioned the word "fun." Are you still having fun fighting?

Of course I am. I love to fight.

That's awesome, and it will make Diego a better fighter, but he already has the skills to beat Koscheck standing up.

Kimbo in new MMA reality show on BET...the show sounds HORRIBLE...
http://www.thefightnetwork.com/news_detail.php?nid=3435

I read about that this weekend. God, what an embarrassment that will be if it comes to fruition. Especially to have some hack like Kimbo even remotely involved spells disaster. What the fuck does he know about MMA? How to lose to a D level fighter like Sean Gannon, that's about it.

LEONARD
03-19-2007, 11:30 AM
Unfortunately, Kimbo sounds like he'll be the most knowledgeable MMA "judge" on the show (he does train with Charles McCarthy's team some).

"The hook is these fighters will be relegated under hip-hip celebrities who will oversee their training, culminating in a round-robin tournament. In N.J., musical artist Ludacris attended auditions; while in Florida, Baltimore Ravens’ linebacker Ray Lewis and infamous Internet brawler Kimbo Slice will have a hand in the selection process. In Los Angeles, comedian/actor Eddie Griffin and musical artist Snoop Dog have been enlisted."

This will be ghetto MMA...and a complete failure...

It's sad too because much has been written about MMA being largely "white" while boxing is largely "black." A show like this is NOT the way to get a more diverse audience. Hopefully it's not as bad as this article makes it out to be, and if it is accurate, hopefully it's off the air soon after it debuts...

MERCER VS. KIMBO

Former Heavyweight Boxing Champ to Take on Kimbo Slice
By Jim Genia

(March 30th, New York City ) “Merciless” Ray Mercer, a former WBO heavyweight boxing champ and gold medalist in the 1988 Olympics, will take on bare-knuckle boxing and Internet legend Kimbo Slice in a three-round exhibition bout utilizing professional MMA rules at the Ca ge Fury Fighting Championship 5 show, said matchmaker Gary Marino today. Dubbed “Brawl at the Hall”, CFFC 5 will take place on June 16th at Boardwalk Hall in Atlantic City, New Jersey .

“I’m very, very excited,” said Marino. “I’ve been working on trying to get Kimbo a fight for the last year. He’s a great draw, and he’s got a huge following for his fights.” Marino added: “Ray Mercer was at the Ca ge Fury Fighting Championship 3 show and speculated that he’d like to try [MMA], and he called me a couple weeks ago asking me to get him a fight. It’s perfect for both guys, for their style and who they are. Kimbo’s a big banger and so is Mercer.”

Known for their heavy-hands and raw power, this will be the first time either man has fought under full MMA rules – though Slice purportedly has been training in the sport for some time now at Miami ’s Freestyle Fighting Academy . However, the former boxing champ, who lost his WBO belt to Wladimir Klitschko in 2002 before stepping into the ring for Japan’s K-1 promotion in 2004 and 2005, will likely enter the cage ready to defend the takedown should the need arise. Said Marino: “Ray Mercer told me he has a bit of a wrestling background, and he’s aware Kimbo has been training down in Florida . He’s been talking about MMA for a while now… so he’ll be prepared.”

With this bout, Mercer will become the highest-profile boxer to have taken the MMA plunge. “It’s very, very intriguing. I think it’s a fantastic fight,” said Marino. “Ray Mercer is definitely going to be the hardest hitter Kimbo has ever faced… I think if they both stand in front of each other, someone is definitely going to get knocked out.”

--------------

If this happens, I wouldn't be surprised to see Kimbo take it to the ground immediately... :lol

I don't see Shogun leaving Pride now. Silva's out, Henderson's in and he will (finally) get his much deserved title shot.

I doubt that. Dana and the UFC have done so much the last couple of months to make the UFC twice as powerful as it had ever been (i.e. aquiring of new fighters, Zuffa aquiring Pride). It's so much change for the better in so little time, that I doubt fans would make that much of a stink about it.

Interview with Shogun on ufcjunkie this morning...

Performify back again, and I’ve got to come clean with you all.

Despite being a contributor here on UFCjunkie.com, I’ve long been a fan of both the UFC and PRIDE Fighting Championships. One of the things that excites me most about the acquisition of the PRIDE organization by the UFC team is that I expect I’ll now be able to cover some of my favorite PRIDE fighters in more depth here on UFCjunkie.com.

As such, I’d like to take the opportunity to share with you an interview with one of my favorite fighters, Brazilian fighter Mauricio “Shogun” Rua. In this interview conducted by Raphael Paiva of Brazilian Web site WorldFight, Shogun talks about his potential for fighting in the UFC, says that he’d really like to fight both Tito Ortiz and Renato “Babalu” Sobral, and answers some speculation on how the rule changes will affect his trademark stomps.

Unsurprisingly the original article being from a Brazilian source means it is written entirely in Portuguese — and, unfortunately, the site that posted the interview lacks an English translation of the article. So while you can check out the original interview in Portuguese via the Brazilian site WorldFight, here’s an unofficial English translation of the article here for the English-speaking audience:

We hear you are going to be making a film?

It’s true — I’ve signed a contract and I will be starring in a movie.

In your last fight against Alistair Overeem you showed sharp ground n’ pound. Have you been training specifically for this type of game?

Our academy trains everything, jiu jítsu, muay thai and wrestling. A smart fighter knows that taking that fight to the ground would make it easier, so we trained specifically for this.

In your last three fights all were decided on the ground. Do you prefer to fight on the ground or on your feet?

Everything depends on the opponent, I think that the evolution of the MMA is for fighters to be complete, depending on the opponent, I find their weak point and take the fight there.

Some mma fighters have been invited to ADCC, Arona, Paulão, Josh Barnett and even Igor Vovchanchyn, if he was invited, couldn’t you participate?

With certainty. I train sufficient in submission and [would like] to fight in ADCC. Not only myself, but my brother and Cristiano Marcello also, I think the academy would be represented [well]. If we were invited to fight, I think we would do well.

What is the biggest difference between fighting in Japan and the United States?

The heat of the crowd, in the United States the fans are a lot like fans in Brazil, loud and passionate. In Japan, everybody is calm watching the fights. But they have affection for both sides and are always considerate. I like both.

Wanderlei Silva after said after his loss to Dan henderson that it is your time — what do you think?

This is my objective, in case Wanderlei does not get a rematch, I would like the chance. This title has to come back to Curitiba at any cost, and if the chance goes to me, I will give my best, it is my dream.

One of your toughest fights was against Rogério Minotouro, what did you think of his loss to Sokoudjou?

He came out fast and is a good athlete, I expected Rogerio to win but he got caught on the chin. I think Minotouro deserves all respect.

Pride now belongs to Zuffa, do you think this will be good for the sport?

I think think it will only grow the sport has to grow. For us athlete, things are going to improve very much.

The rules have been unified, will this harm your game?

With certainty, I love to stomp. But already I’ve fought two times under these rules, and have adapted well, I’ll continue training to adapt myself better.

You renewed with Pride for four fights, in your contract is there a possibility to fight in the UFC?

The possibility exists yes, I can fight in the UFC or in Pride.

Dana White said after the loss of Wanderlei Silva that a fight between he and Chuck Liddell would now be impracticle, and when questioned on a fight between you and Liddell, he scoffed asking “who is Shogun…”

Ha ha ha… If he does not know me, now he is going to know, I am going to fight in his event, this year he is going to know me.

You cannot choose your opponents, but would you like other fights to adapt before facing the best of the UFC?

In truth I already fought with the best fighters in the world, and I am ready for whoever is to come. It’s not necessary for me to prove anything to anybody, everyone [knows] of my potential, and what I can do in fights.

Tito Ortiz declared recently that he would like to fight with you…

He is a very good athlete and strong, I would like to face him yes, with certainty I would like that fight.

Does the possibility of a rematch with Renato Sobral motivate you to fight in the UFC?

Definitely! It is a fight that now can happen and I would like it very much it if did.

Speaking a little on the rivalry, Paulão Filho declared that Wanderlei Silva is beneath him, and that now he wants you…

Paulão is a good athlete, but I am above him, and the only thing he wants is for people to give him attention and credit. I do not give respect to a man who only wants to appear in the media.

Since Vítor Belfort did not materialize as a Brazilian phenomenon, and many point you as a new phenomenon, does this weigh on you?

I only concentrate on giving my best. If I begin to think that I am already the best in the world, I will not fight that way. It’s the fighters job to give 100% percent.

Thanks for the interview, can you leave a message for your fans…

I love all my fans, and I want to say that the people who follow me and cheer for me, are my biggest motivation. I will be always be training to give a show to my fans, friends and family.

Props to “Steven Sharp” from the BloodyKnux.com forum for turning us on to this interview and providing the translation.

http://www.chuteboxe-usa.com

Silva is actually on suspension with the NSAC til the 11th which is 3 days after Pride 34, but he was cleared to fight by doctors and the NSAC is going to let him fight...

PRIDE: APRIL 8, 2007 IN JAPAN

-Wand Silva (#5 LHW) vs Igor
-Kazuyuki Fujita vs. Jeff Monson
-Ricardo Arona (#3 LHW)* vs. Rameau Thierry Sokoudjou
-Shinya Aoki (#6 LW)* vs. Brian Lo-A-Njoe
-Zelg Galesic vs. Makoto Takimoto
-Don Frye vs. James Thompson
-Yoshihiro Nakao vs. Edson Drago
-Bazigit "Volk" Atajev vs. Gilbert Yvel
-Eric Esch vs. Zulu

Definitely not the most star-studded Pride card, but definitely some interesting fights.
