The Jets still have two picks in the second round -- No. 59 and now No. 63.

The Jets and Jones' representative Drew Rosenhaus are believed to be working on a new contract with Jones, whose unhappiness with his Bears contract led to him skipping off-season workouts this past season.

The Bears now have the No. 31st (first round) and 37th overall picks.

I cant believe Chicago didnt get at least a 1st, or another player back. I posted earlier that Chicago was fucking up hardcore this off season what with Rivera and now Briggs, but this is the most idiotic trade I have ever heard of

I mean, I know it moved the Bears up 26 spots in the second, but come on, the guy rushed for over 1200 yards last year, and he is still in the prime of his career. Yea man, if I was a Jets fan I would be going nuts right now. The Bears must really have their eyes on someone in the draft

The guy is going to be 29 when next season starts, an age when a majority of NFL RBs start to break down.

Faulk was traded for a second and a 5th, the Bears should have been able to trade Jones for a second straight up, not having to give up their second as well, maybe a 4th or 5th, but not their second

Also, Faulk was skipping practices and was about to hold out, so they had to get rid of him fast. And that trade is also regarded as one of the worst trades ever, considering what the Colts got with those picks (Mike Peterson, only played with them 3 years, and Brad Scioli, out of the league). The Bears could have waited a little longer to see if they could have gotten a better offer, I couldnt have even pulled this trade off on Madden

I doubt they would have received a better deal than they did. The only other guy I can recall being traded for a second rounder (#56) is Corey Dillon. And he was a much more accomplished NFL RB than TJ has ever been...

Dillon was 2 years older at the time, and had about 1800 carries at that point in his career, and at this point of Jones career he has about 500 less carries, almost 2 seasons for most players, so you still havent conviced me

Dillon was a year older and the wear/tear argument is a good one until you remember that TJ was injury prone early in his career. I think the two would cancel each other out; increased workload vS. being injured early in your career on more than one occasion.

And I don't have to convince you, the market for TJ has already been set. Don't you think you'd have to argue that's he's worth more? Just sayin...

I really can't believe that most of you think a 29 year old RB who has had a grand total of two above-average seasons is worth a 1st round draft pick.

He has only started three seasons of his career, so one could argue that he has a lot more left in his tank than a Corey Dillon, I know he had injury problems in the past, but that might actually keep him fresh longer. And I didnt think that he was worth a 1st for sure, although I mentioned that earleir, Im was just saying that I thought straight up would have been a good trade, not adding their 2nd in as well. But I do see your point. Also he did have a pretty damn good year in 04, 1400 yards from scrimmage, 7 tds, and only one lost fumble

Hadnt thought about that, actually thats quite briliant there Tony, thats probably exactly what they are doing, thinking of it that way makes way more sense, especially because Jones was expendable

If I remember correctly, the Bears already are under the cap significantly and TJ I believe has a low cap number( he signed for something like 4yr 10 million). He also only has one year left on his contract.

I'm starting to like this trade more for the Bears than I do for the Jets.

Filling their need for a No. 1 ball carrier, the Jets, according to league sources, have agreed to a trade with the NFC champion Chicago Bears that will land them Thomas Jones and the 63rd overall pick in the upcoming draft in exchange for the 37th overall pick. New York acquired that in a draft-day deal with Washington last year. The deal is expected to be approved by the league on Tuesday.

The Jets still own two picks in the second round, their own (No. 59) and now the Bears' original selection. The Bears select 31st in Round 1 and for now are set to be on the clock six picks later.

With rookie Leon Washington, Cedric Houston, and Kevan Barlow sharing the rushing load, New York ranked 30th in the league last season with an average of 3.5 yards per attempt. Washington led the team with 650 yards. In Jones, 28, the Jets get a back who has rushed for more than 1,200 yards in each of the past two seasons -- becoming the first Bear to do so since Walter Payton in 1985-86. Jones was the postseason's second-leading rusher with 301 yards, averaging 5.5 yards per attempt and scoring four touchdowns in three playoff games.

The Jets and their fans got an up-close look at what New York is getting Nov. 19 when Jones rushed for 121 yards on 23 carries in the Bears' 10-0 win at the Meadowlands.

After rushing for 1,335 yards and nine touchdowns in 2005, Jones acted on his unhappiness with his contract by boycotting the Bears' voluntary offseason workouts. Jones was entering the final year of the deal he signed in 2004 and slated to earn $2.75 million this season, but his agent, Drew Rosenhaus, and the Jets were believed to be working on a new long-term contract last night.

The seventh overall selection in the 2000 draft by the Cardinals out of Virginia, Jones played three seasons in Arizona, spent the 2003 season with the Buccaneers, and has led the Bears in rushing each of the past three seasons. The Bears, however, drafted Cedric Benson with the fourth overall pick in 2004. Jones and Benson made a formidable tandem during last year's run to Super Bowl XXLI, but what was believed to be an icy relationship with each other, as well as Benson with the rest of his teammates, has been a popular topic in the Windy City since Benson's arrival. Jones requested a trade earlier this offseason.

Benson tied Jones for the team lead with six rushing touchdowns and equaled his average of 4.1 yards per rush, carrying 157 times to Jones' 296. It was never a matter of if but when the Bears would elevate Benson to No. 1 status. That time is now.
