Weird. Wonder the last time an NBA team held its opponents to the same score three straight games....

I'd be curious about the statistical anomaly, too.

But I have to say, more than anything, I'm thrilled with the 74 ppg average over that span.

Spurs are kicking ass lately... They didn't even need a long 3.

I guess you just shoot to score at least 75 these days, huh?

I agree with you on that as well. But still, where the hell is ESPN's stat department when you need it?

The last three games, they've held the opponent to < 20 pts in 3 of the 4 quarters.

When is the last time the Spurs held three straight opponents to under 75 points?

The Clippers had to hurry to score 25 points in the 4th quarter so that they could reach 74, too. :wow

(49 points after 3 quarters)

The 2003-04 season. They had a five game stretch where they allowed 67, 73, 67, 70 and 73. They also had another stretch that extended into the playoffs of 66, 67, 74 and 70.

That '03-04 team has been forgotten because of .4, but according to Hollinger stats, it was the best regular season defensive team in NBA history. Personally, I don't think it was as good as the '99 team, but it was pretty darn good.

You have to be the Spurstalk king of the self-quote. :)

It was the best post-hand-check-era defense perhaps.

Didn't the Pistons have a better defensive run that same year?

It showed what could happen with a decent Long Three in the system.

The Pistons had a run where they allowed 68, 66, 65, 65, 69, 71, 75 and 76. That's pretty good.

Hey, I kind of like this quoting thing. :)

Eh, Hedo looks horrible this year. He's out of shape and plays like he doesn't GAF. Last year he looked good, but this year he's as uninspired as I've ever seen him.

Overall, I don't really think that winning is that high on Hedo's priority list.

Not giving an F and scoring 25 like he did tonight, is impressive.

Yeah the Pistons set come kind of record for holding opponents under 70 points per game.

The Spurs and Pistons both set the record for fewest points allowed that year...and PPG allowed too, I think.

The diffeence is that the Spurs were fairly consistent on D all year long that season, while the Pistons lowered their numbers to match the Spurs, in the second half of the season with a phenomenal defensive run after they got Sheed.

Yeah, the Pistons were special defensively then but with Ben gone, they have a big hole in the middle and are not as fearsome.. definite Spurs advantage this time around if they meet in the Finals.

The greatest thing about this streak is that it shows that the "small ball" lineup can play pretty good defense.
This year is not like last year, where the Spurs doesn't have an answer for quick power forwards.
On the other hand, I am not sure how the Spurs can guard Yao or Shaq, Oberto perhaps?

The Spurs haven't had to go "small" much during the streak. They normally have had 2 bigs out there at all times.

Yeah, it's amazing how well small ball defends when you have an actual center on the floor for 35 minutes a game to help them.

Sorry guys, to me doesn't necessary mean no centers, just that we have a quick enough lineup to guard other opposition's smaller players. Thus the quotation marks.

Then it simply isn't small ball. Pop took Rasho and Nazr completely out of the lineup and did it in the middle of a playoff series against a a good team. The Spurs adjusted to it on the fly and actually improved by the end of the series; any group is going to improve with some time together. I reject the use of the term for that reason.
