View Full Version : Mavs = Greatest 56 Game Stretch In US Pro Sports History

for a single season run (not stretched over 2 seasons)...

No other team has won 51 of 56 games at any point in a season, whether in the NBA, MLB, or NHL...

Of course it means nothing, but it's still pretty damn cool... :fro

Damn, that's impressive, but that kind of stat can be a double edged sword. If they win it all that's the kind of thing that can be used to argue that this team is among the all time greats. And if they don't win it all that's a shadow that's going to be held over this team's head for a long time by their critics. Lots of good storylines developing for the postseason, at in the West.

All this BS talk is gonna make it hurt that much worse IF the Mavs don't win the whole damn thing.

Just take these wins and enjoy them for what they are. Practice for the playoffs. No need to come to another teams board and throw it in their faces. Just pepetuates the animosity.

On the other hand, fuck the Spurs, they suck. :spin

It means nothing because it's a regular season accomplishment...

I brought it up because it's an impressive run for regular season play...

If the Spurs had done it, it CERTAINLY would've been posted here...

just like it was on ESPN.com... (ie, I didn't come up with this myself)

i wouldnt say it means nothing.
its not an nba championship, but it does show you something when a team acheives that kind of greatness over a long stretch covering a majority of the whole season.

ask the raptors/nets/magic/cavs/anyone else if they would consider winning 51/56 meaningless.

The Mavs have done superbly in the Regular season so far this year. Right now, I'd say that only San Antonio and Phoenix can even barely compete with them. But the Mavs have off-nights like other teams so they can be beaten.
That is a pretty big accomplishment, though.

in some ways i would agree with this.
...its not the last 16 games that have been so impressive in Mavsland. to the extent that such a thing is possible, this has not been a terribly impressive 16 consecutive wins.
it really is just icing on the cake.

for us, a 16 game (and counting) winning streak is just part of a larger body of work (51 out of 56), not the be-all end-all apex of our season (ala yr faggy Suns.)

the 51-56 is what is impressive really, any asshole can run off 16.

45 out of 51 (with Nash) is pretty impressive in it's own right. Thus far, Mavs haven't played a game without Dirk, who is is the Mavs' MVP (except for part of that game against Seattle)... problem is - the Suns and Mavs were neck-and-neck until Nash went out and now they've kept up the 51-56 pace while Suns fell behind.

However, they've won without Marion, which is kind of like winning without Howard.

I don't see a Suns thread for every game we play etc., etc. :donkey That is basically what I am talking about. It gets old after awhile. Especially that Mav fan that starts most of the game day threads with the dancing pink elephants. In fact when the Suns did so well in the 2005 season, did a Suns fan post about every accomplishment the teams had for that year? This year we have had some records that are impressive but I don't see a thread devoted to these records. Correct me if there have been Suns fans starting threads bragging about records set this year for their team.

Dallas is on pace to have an astonishing regular season record. This is a significant accomplishment in that most teams that post these kinds of records usually go on to win an NBA title, correct?

I've always thought the regular season to be pretty important. Championship teams can establish patterns and create a kind of "muscle memory" when it comes to handling pressure situations.

Wow ....you called it

for a single season run (not stretched over 2 seasons)...

No other team has won 51 of 56 games at any point in a season, whether in the NBA, MLB, or NHL...

Of course it means nothing, but it's still pretty damn cool... :fro

They had an easy schedule during those 56. Besides, a better 7 game stretch at the start of the playoffs would've worked more.

Devin Harris' personal assistant just posted this today:

2nite Devin Harris of the Dallas Mavs Presents "Wet Wednsday
Devin Harris of the Dallas Mavericks Presents "Wet Wednsdays" at club 8lounge on lower greenville... No cover charge and drink specials all night!!!! Must be 21& up to enter.... Come out each and every Wednsday 2 celebrate the merger between Devin Harris and Club 8lounge!!!

You'll probably see a lot of the Mavs there talking about the great regular season they had. All in Dallas should join.
