Barry & Marks Present Spurs Reading Corner

Spurs guard Brent Barry and Spurs center Sean Marks recently were on hand at The Children’s Shelter to present a new Spurs Reading Corner and host a reading time-out with the shelter’s young children.
The event was part of a new national Reading Corner Program with the NBA, Reading Is Fundamental Inc. (RIF) and the Foot Locker Foundation Inc. The program will create more than 100 reading corners at schools and youth organizations around the country. The San Antonio Children’s Shelter will receive a collection of 500 books along with posters, bookmarks, reading activities and team materials in addition to the visit from the Spurs players.

By establishing this Reading Corner, the Spurs hope to provide the children at The Children’s Shelter with increased exposure to quality children’s literature in an inviting and fun environment.

It is especially important for San Antonio to embrace literacy, as the 2002 National Adult Literacy Survey reports that 58% of San Antonio’s population is functionally illiterate. By this measure, about half of the adults in San Antonio lack the basic skills to compete successfully in the workplace.

He'd probably aggravate his back injury turning the pages.

Was that an attempt at being funny or just another opportunity to show your ignorance?

1. Sean Marks is from New Zealand
2. Australians speak English...

If it WAS in fact a joke.... haha very funny....

Marks hasn't played in an NBA regular-season game since 2002-03. How does that qualify him as "The Man"?

Oh, and you'll soon find out that we "disrespect" essentially every NBA player at least once a season here.

They're jokes, man.

Although swinging those pages can't be good for his back. I think Pop should hire a page-turner for him.

None taken.

I thought Kori had posted an article about his back really being injured. Something that would keep him out for a lot longer than the Spurs expected.

Nothing in particular, but the last post by Kori announcing the three being placed on IR said it was the same lower back strain.

Pop was pretty high on Marks in the offseason; saying that he was going to see minutes before the injury. I want to see what he can do.

Marks's play in the Olympics got me hopefull on him.

He bangs, has decent speed, and can defend decently.

Nice outside shot, decent post moves.

Would definately IMO, pass Robert Horry on the depth chart.

Too bad he messed the back up in early October.

Although some could dispute that because Kiwis are often impossible to understand.
