(I had the chance to see a newscast this morning about Keith Edmonson and was moved to help him spread the word.)
Keith Edmonson, a graduate of McArthur High School in SA and former guard 1983-84 for the Spurs, is holding a fundraiser golf tournament to raise money for the Joe D. Edmonson Sr. Scholarship Fund. Money raised at the tournament also will go toward education basketball camps.
Edmonson's numbers were decent, his best year in the league were with the Spurs but he's had his greatest impact as a role model and motivator for young people, seeking to manximize their potential by organizing them into squads and teaching them teamwork fundamentals. Keith ultimaktely wants them practicing those good life skills and values that he says he can teach through the game of basketball.
Keith was a member of a prestigious group during his college days. Led by highly successful coach Gene Keady (.607 in 26 seasons in NCAA Div.1), the Boilermakers have been successful in the classroom as well as on the basketball court. Nearly 90 percent of the seniors who have stayed at Purdue for four seasons under Keady have graduated. In Keady's tenure, Boilermakers have been selected Academic All-Big Ten 35 times, including seven Academic All-America picks (Brian Walker, 1981; Keith Edmonson, 1982; Steve Reid, 1983 and 1984; Craig Riley, 1992; and Carson Cunningham, 2000 and 2001).
This is another example of former Spurs staying in SA to continue to contribute to their communities and city.
