Spurs won't win any ring if we can't improve rebounds. Our rebound leader is Duncan with just av. 10 rebounds per game, followed by ELson and Oberto with 4 o 5 rebounds per game. I don't care if we have the best defense in the NBA if the other teams are going to get 2nd or 3rd chances, probably near the basket and a foul. Any solutions? :pctoss

The solution is to work harder on rebound? Try as hard as possible to get more rebounds? Something like that.

Tell Finley that rebounding is part of the game.

Lol Horry is a better rebounder in that game than Fran/Oberto/Ely/Butler.

We average more rebounds than our opponents.
What do you people want, for us to be good at everything?
I would understand it if we were averaging less than our opponents, but we are at least average.
We changed from a center-oriented team to having (basically) two pf-sized guys in there; we play faster, but have maintained a good fg% against and our scoring is up.
People, get a grip.
Yes, our SF should get more rebounds. Yes, we should get more out of our center rotation.
I don't think rebounding is an issue (except against dallas)
Against Dallas, if we keep away from small-ball, we should be fine.
If we go small against dallas, we will get spanked on the boards, with our without better rebounding out of finley, or bowen, or whomever is our sf.

San Antonio is 15th in RB diff, with only +0.98.
WC playoff teams like Jazz, Mavs, Rockets, Nuggs, are all head of Spurs, with Jazz and Mavs way ahead.

Looking at the global rebounding number doesn't give an exact picture of Spurs rebounding stats.

Spurs are the 3rd best team on the defensive end and the 27th on the offensive end. :spin
Spurs haven't maybe the players to be a top offensive rebounding team but a reason why they are that weak is that they are focused on the transition defense and not on grabing offensive rebounds. http://spurstalk.com/forums/showpost.php?p=1523001&postcount=7
I rather have a team that doesn't grab offensive boards than a team that allow easy baskets in transition. :rolleyes

You nailed it.
Pop explained it pretty clearly on the last Pop show that only the Spurs bigs are supposed to go to the offensive glass. The small players (PG, SG, SF) are all, by design, supposed to NOT go to the glass and get back on defense. He says that they know that the Spurs will not get that many offensive rebounds, but that they do it to get back on transition D and that makes them a better ballclub.

True enough. But I still think that the Spurs' biggest problems arise in two circumstances: (1) when they fall in love with the 3 offensively and stop working the ball to create things going to the rim; and (2) when they do a poor job on the defensive glass. The latter problem is exacerbated when it happens because the Spurs don't get a lot of second chances on their end; so if they get beaten too much on their defensive glass, they don't have as many extra possessions to make up that difference. To me, both of the games in Salt Lake City this year were games the Spurs lost because of their ineffectiveness in rebounding the ball on the defensive end. I think the Spurs have also conceded too many 2nd chances to the Mavericks in the 3rd and 4th quarters of the games in San Antonio this season.
With that said, I see from the numbers that the Spurs are 3rd in the league (behind only Houston and Dallas) in defensive rebounding percentage. On the one hand, I suppose that suggests that my complaints are very well founded. On the other, I think it might suggest that the Spurs are capable of being a dominant group on their defensive glass, but that when they let down or get outwilled in that department, they're in big trouble.
