I don't like it at all. for the home or away team.

It's been like that forever (except the 1st round when it was 2-2-1). The finals have always been 2-3-2

It's been that way for a damn long time (except in NBA finals).

:lol Why don't you like it? It's the fairest way. The 2-3-2 in the NBA Finals is what sucks and isn't fair.

Actually, back in the day, (well, back before 1985) the Finals were a 2-2-1-1-1 format as well.

Here's the schedule from the 1984 Finals, for example:

Game 1 (1984-05-27 at BOS)
Game 2 (1984-05-31 at BOS)
Game 3 (1984-06-03 at LAL)
Game 4 (1984-06-06 at LAL)
Game 5 (1984-06-08 at BOS)
Game 6 (1984-06-10 at LAL)
Game 7 (1984-06-12 at BOS)

I think they went 2-3-2 in the finals because LA and Boston played just about every year in the finals. If they didn't play Boston, it was Philadelphia or Detroit.

If it plays out like this, those are going to be two very entertaining semifinals, followed by one hell of a western conf. final.

Yeah, you are right, the distance was why they did it originally. But I still hate the 2-3-2 for the hometeam.

I think boutons is right, though about the end game at the bottom of the West draw.

Here are the loss totals for the 5 teams that would still seem to have a shot at 7-8 (total games played through Monday in parentheses):

34 -- DEN (69)
36 -- LAC (70)
38 -- NOH (70)
39 -- GST (72)
39 -- MIN (69)

Here's the tiebreaker situations with those teams:

DEN v. LAC -- series tied 1-1, 1 game remains (@LAC)
DEN v. NOK -- NOK leads series 2-1, 1 game remains (@NOK)
DEN v. GST -- DEN wins series 3-1
DEN v. MIN -- MIN leads 2-1, 1 game remains (@DEN)

LAC v. NOK -- LAC leads 2-0, 2 games remain (@NOK, @LAC)
LAC v. GST -- series tied 2-2
LAC v. MIN -- MIN win series 2-1

NOK v. GST -- GST wins series 3-1
NOK v. MIN -- NOK leads 2-1, 1 game remains (@MIN)

GST v. MIN -- series tied 1-1, 1 game remains (@GST)

I never cared until last season when I was ready for the Mavs to get the hell out of Miami after 2 games :depressed

Side note: There was another reference (from Avery) in the paper last week to how poorly the Mav players handled being in Miami (and up 2-0). It's been mentioned several times (very vaguely) that some or all of them were having too good of a time down there. I just wish we knew more details.

I do think that's one major drawback of the Finals schedule. ABC has been insistent upon this Tuesday, Thursday, Sunday schedule for the Finals, which means that the team with HCA has to be on the road for an entire week, barring a sweep. In 2005, the Spurs won Game 2 in SA on a Sunday evening, flew to Detroit on Monday and didn't leave until Horry had broken hearts the following Sunday. They can't leave, because there's so much media availability required. So, they're just kind of stuck there.

Here’s my prediction of this bracket, if it turned out this way by the start of the playoffs, my predictions are of how this bracket is played out on the image. So I picked Utah winning the first round, but the poster of this image didn't....so in second round since Houston is there, I picked Dallas 4-0 over Houston.

First Round:

Dallas over LAC, 4-0.
Utah over Houston, 4-2.
Suns over Nuggets, 4-1
Spurs over Lakers, 4-2 but I’m learning more towards 4-1.

[I'd much, much rather see Dallas face GS in the first round, and Utah in the second. LAC and Houston won't do jackshit vs Dallas in the first and second rounds]

Second Round:

Dallas over Houston, 4-0.
Spurs over Suns, 4-3.

WCF:

It’s a toss-up. Expect Manu to do some unbelievable things.

what are the chances if the Spurs take the #2 spot?
will it be a better position in the playoffs than the 3rd spot where they are now?

-----------------
i read this article....

The Spurs are playing as well as anyone in the league right now. But they're not concerned about being No. 1. They just want to be No. 2.

When the Spurs host the Hornets on Wednesday, they will be tipping off a stretch of seven of eight at home. If there's ever a time to catch the Suns for the No. 2 playoff seeding in the West, this is it.

The problem is the Spurs have had more than their share of problems at home this season. Among their nine home defeats are inexcusable losses to the Bobcats, Bucks and Celtics.:cry

The Spurs enter this key stretch three games behind the Suns with one head-to-head game remaining. That will come April 5 in San Antonio.

That game will be part of a four-game trip for the Suns, who also must play at Golden State this week before hosting Denver and Dallas. It's possible the Spurs will have made up some -- if not all -- of the ground before the showdown.

The Spurs and Suns have just a three-game season series this year. Since they split the first two games, the third and final encounter will provide the tie-breaker that determines the difference between the Nos. 2 and 3 seeds if the teams finish the season with identical records.

Only slightly, 2nd seed gives HCA in the 2nd round.

Yup, the Nuggets sound a better team for us to beat in the first round. Didn't we sweep them in 05?

And Kobe cant wait to get a shot on the Suns team for what happened last year.

I really dont care about HCA. We beat them in 05 when they were a better team, and we will beat em again.
