Sonics coach Bob Hill continues to throw players under the bus, which would seem to eliminate him from future NBA coaching consideration. In recent losses, he blamed Earl Watson and Chris Wilcox for costing games by blowing plays and said the Sonics should give up if they lose Rashard Lewis in free agency. The word around the NBA is Lenny Wilkens will return to coach in a transition season as the team considers a move next seasonOf course, the source is Sam Smith, so take it with a grain of salt . . .

Bob Hill throwing players under the bus? Say it isn't so...
:lol:rollin
Bob Hill has never grasped that the NBA is a player's league, and that will always be his fatal flaw. Sure, Wilcox is a waste. But when you say it in the paper, you lower his value and make it harder to get rid of him.

Bob the Slob Hill
A nob, maybe; a s.o.b., definitely; but not a slob.
Probably his best quality as a coach is that he's almost always impeccably dressed.
This is typical Hill. My favorite will be the grudge that he'll hold for 10 years after he's fired -- probably because the Sonics will win the lottery this summer, take Oden, and become an annual contender for the next 10-15 years.

I couldn't link the article, however Hill has a friggn right to hold a grudge.
The only thing wrong with Bob is he has a very big head and he needs
to listen to his assistant coaches more,
Don't talk about his most recent stint at the college level.
I have some old links and you would be suprised at what some of the folks at WOAI had to say about his getting fired. I think Kori was.
Some of those folks post here and others at SR. and now they think POP is next to GOD
He came back after 10 years because there are folks in Sonic- land
that know the "Rest of the Story"
Wilkins was informed by the press. and said "You have got to be kidding me"
and futhermore:
Suprise, Suprise :rolleyes :rolleyes
Drob came back from an injury the day after Bob got fired.
Pop wanted to be a coach and with DRob, AJ, whom Bob had stepped on their toes the previous year, and his influence with Gen McD he got the job, because he fired Hill, even today
Pop won't go over and shake his hand after a game.
THIS IS A TYPICAL POST
from Woai 10 years ago;
If Greg wants to be consistent, then he should also resign.Wasn't it Greg who put together this collection of underachieving misfits? There are at least three or four players who should not be in the league, yet occupy salaries for the Spurs. Maybe Greg can add another Rocket castoff to our team. Kenny Smith is available.
The fans in San Antonio have been very patient with the management of this team, and all we have to show for it is mediocrity. Bob Hill was a good coach, who tried to get the most out of his players. It wasn't Bob who committed turnovers or only made half of his layups. The players and the GM should be held accountable.
David's absence showed us just how pitiful a group of players Popovich has assembled.I have been a season ticket holder for four years now, and I used to go to games to see the Spurs play. Now I find myself more interested in the competition than the Spurs.
Not only should Greg consider stepping down, but he certainly should get rid of Anderson, Kempton, Herrera, Smith, Maxwell unless he can shoot an outside shot , and Avery unless he can make more than half of his layups. It's a joke to think that these guys are the best we can get!

Nice Post & link IRISH
I wonder'd why Pop said when Tim Retires he would retire 30 seconds later.
I guess Pop is smart enough to realize he couldn't hack it without tim.

Bob Hill lost the team. What some fan posts doesn't mean diddly compared to that stark, cold fact.
As for Pop? Hell yeah he's smart enough to know it's about the players, Tim in particular. It's a lesson that Hill could certainly use.

It was only a mere decade ago that Bob Hill fans started asking for Pop's head as retribution for firing their patron saint.

Irish your info is kind of wack....The truth is the brass wanted Pop to coach, but he himself didn't think he was up to it yet, he suggested Bob Hill as the coach, and hired him. DRob asked for Bob to be canned. Pop agreed.

Well, sure. I'll take some fan's opinion (or even the collection of opinions from a bunch of fans) over my own observations and knowledge. I'm sure the fans who posted back in the day were better situated to assess that the merits of Bob Hill's firing than the players who -- reportedly at least -- went to Pop asking that he take over the team and that Hill be fired.
In fact, citing to old posts from the early days of widespread internet use might present about the least compelling argument I've ever read on this site.
Bob Hill was such a good coach that he lead his team to 59 regular season wins in 1995-96 and then a 2nd round whimper-out against Utah. It wasn't so much losing to Utah (on the heels of the disappointing 95 WCF) that pissed me off. How that team ever won 2 games against Utah in that series remains a mystery to me, because they were decidedly outcoached in the 4 games that they lost. It wasn't how poorly the Spurs played, it was how disorganized and apathetic they appeared.
That there is still Bob Hill backing going on strikes me as fairly amazing.

Not to mention the fact AJ was the PG and lost one game by dribbling of
his foot, while trying to go :rolleyes right.
and it was AJ & DRob that went to POP.
Yes Pop wanted the job when Hill was hired, in fact he was sooooooo
set up that he wasn't allowed to bring in his own assistants.
It's not that folk's are Hill lovers it just that he could stabed in the BACK
by everybodys saint- POP

NO NO NO NO
The BRASS did not want Pop!!!
only Gen McD &
and he was only the TOP DOG.
Hank Egan is the one that mention BH to Pop
The BRASS = Members of the San Antonio Sports Foundation and the Majority of the owners and they were not fully behind POP when BH
was hired.
When he was fired, different strokes from different folks.
For those other doubters, go get back copies, of SI, ESPN, SA Express
News, etc, etc from 1996 and Jan 1997 and read the freaking articles
about BH getting a raw deal.
If not go on throught life with your opinions.
