OK, This morning I was listing to 99.5 KISS going to work and they started talking about, just in passing, that fucking weird blue guy the GS warriors have as their mascot

It got me thinking about who has the weirdest most fucked up mascot in the NBA.

At least with the Spurs you have the Coyote and you KNOW its a coyote.

At least with the Mavs you have the horse and you KNOW its a fucking horse.

what the fuck are these other mascots or what the fuck do they have to do with the team?

For instance, the Suns have a fucking gorilla... what the fuck does a gorilla have to do with the fucking sun? (and before Suns fans get all defensive asking what a coyote has to do with the Spurs... its a western thing).

The Gorilla was actually a novelty message deliverer whom you could hire to deliver birthday wishes or other greetings. He became to big he was used in some Suns promotional offers and became a fan favorite. From there, the organization hired a gymnist or acrobat (something like that) to become a mascot, keep the energy up in the arena, do goofy skits/productions during timeouts and whatnot and still be a message deliverer when he could.

His popularity just exploded from there.

Again, the gorilla concept had nothing to do with the team initially. Just wound up being the default, then official mascot through circumstance and chance.

He's over the top now, but the original guy was a classic. Very innovative. That whole sideline gag for Riley being an example. Everything that mascots do now is because of the San Diego chicken and the Suns gorilla.
