This may be a pointless and dumb question...but does anyone remember when all Spurs home games could only be seen on PPV? I think they were $14.95 each or something...

Or how about when TNT would blackout home Spurs games in SA?

Anyway, how did all that change? What took place to where we could see home games on TV and also see Spurs home games on TNT?

Bump!

I just thought of this, too. Does anybody have any info on this?

It was the NBA's policy. Each game had to get within a certain percentage of a sellout or it couldn't be broadcast locally except for PPV. I believe the rules were relaxed a bit in the past decade or so as their TV deals have gotten more lucrative, and the Spurs have always average well over 90% sales recently.

Thanks. I remember it sucked not being able to watch those games. Then after a while, my dad got one of those descrambler things, so it didn't affect us anymore.

I remember watching a Portland game with my best friend and his now wife. Buck Williams was at the FT line with like a fraction of a second left, and the game tied. He missed both FTs and we won in OT. Good Times.

The NBA got rid of PPV after the 99 lockout, I think. Most fans just wanted to cancel the season so there is no way the NBA was going to get them to fork money over to watch home games on TV.

Had this in Portland during the late 80's/early 90's. $19.95 a game on PPV. If I wasn't at the game, we watched on PPV.

Ha. My old man refused on principle to buy games when they were on PPV, and you could guarantee he'd be in a shit mood the rest of the night.

You want shit mood? Pay $29.95 in 1995 dollars to watch the Spurs get wrecked the first two games of the WCF by Houston. LOL when they put Game 5 on PPV again. Who the fuck actually ordered that shit? :lol

I wonder had they made the 95 Finals would that shit have been on PPV too?

:lmao @ PPV Basketball

Thank god for descramblers. All the porn, movies, and basketball you could ask for. I remember being warned by the guy who sold me us the box to never "fall asleep on a PPV channel" as TWC would be able to tell that you were watching the same event over and over and would figure you out.

Yeah, I'm pretty sure my old man found some reason to ground me for the rest of the summer following the WCF that year. lol
