The Mrs and I are coming to town on Thursday the 5th and staying through the 10th. We are going to the Goldenstate and Portland games. Huge spurs fans from Montana.
The reason for the post is just general advice on what to see and where to eat along the riverwalk. Local knowledge is invaluable.... The alamo (obviously) seaworld, and the spurs run walk are scheduled. We are staying at the Emily Morgan, I think its older, but we got a smokin deal on it.
How much is cab fare to downtown from the airport? What time do you go to the games to see the spurs warming up?
Thanks in advance for anyone taking the time to help us experience your great city!!!

Fare from the airport to downtown would PROBABLY be about 20 bucks. From my house to downtown was 37, and that's double the distance.

How does one get to be a Spur fan living in Montana?

i would get to the game at least 2 hours early. this time of year would be a great time to go to the zoo. its only a few miles from downtown. there is also brackenridge park adjacent to it, which might also be fun to visit if you enjoy being outdoors, which i would assume so being from montana.

One lives in Motanana and roots for the Spurs?
Alternatively, one could also root for the Spurs while living in Montana.
I suppose either would be an equally effective method of getting to be a Spur fan living in Montana.
Hope this helps. :tu

The arena usually opens 2 hours before tip (sometimes they slack off and are about 15 minutes late in opening). So if the game is at 7pm, the earliest you can get in is 5pm.
Pretty much everywhere is good to eat on the Riverwalk. Do you want expensive or moderate restaurants?

Cab fare will probably be about $17-20 depending on traffic. If you get in during rush hour, it could be quite a bit more.

Hmmm, I wonder if they have Super Shuttle in SA. Their rates are cheaper than a cab, but it will get you there a bit slower.
The VIA bus system is pretty good if you want to try some of the nice restaurants on the westside or the far northside for an early dinner if you have the time. Anybody on this board know if Karam's Restaurant food has kept the same good quality since I left some years ago?

I did not quite understand the post either! I think he was trying to be smart but ended up outsmarting himself, or not. He could have out dumbed himself more like it.

There is an airport shuttle to downtown hotels called SATRANS. Their phone number is 210-281-9900. There's also more information available at www.saairportshuttle.com. Hope this helps!

If you read this wolf, I think it's a great question...what brought you to be a Spurs fan of all the teams you could have chosen to root for?

I was about 10, and at San Antonio. I was by this bridge, surrounded by thousands of people. All of a sudden bats flew out from under a bridge. Millions of them. It was awsome. I don't remember where I was. Can someone tell me?

You were in Austin, not San Antonio. The bats live under the Congress Ave Bridge across Town Lake.

Oh, thanks. I guess I thought I was in San Antonio because thats where my aunt lives. We must have went there before she took me back to Missouri.
Although I live in Missouri, Texas is the place I'd really love to be.

Thanks for the info on the shuttle. Should help. When I was younger I was fortunate to meet David Robinson in Annapolis, my dad was in the navy at the time and David was playing for the midshipmen. Ever since then I've followed the spurs and really fell in love with them back in the Vinny Del Negro, Shawn Elliot, Paul Pressey, Willie Anderson days.
Rocked the Nike Forces dave used to wear, loved the teal and pink, but it was all david, withouth him I probably wouldn't be a fan. Got to see him play several times in Seattle and Denver and Utah. I also enjoy the spurs attitude, not the selfish thug mentality that dominates the NBA

If you're up late some night and feel like getting something to eat along with some authentic ambience of San Antonio, get a cab to the near west side at the Market and try the Mi Tierra restaurant. Mariachis play almost all night and the real San Antonians come for talk and late meals.
