who needs traffic relief?

I am 100% in favor of building this toll road as pictured since they didn't include even one toll booth or plaza in the entire animation.

seems a bit unrealistic, unless they plan on doing some purchasing of land.

If being opposed to TxDOT taking an existing highway and turning it into a toll road makes me a crybaby then WAHHHHH!

Fucking toll road idiots.

Use the fucking tax dollars that we already pay for this.

Quit blowing our goddamn money on pork, and use it on something usefull.

Novel idea.

Construction should start some time next spring or earlier. 281 will be tolled.

Considering 281 north of 1604 isn't a highway and nothing more than a four lane parking lot with stop lights every half mile, I don't see why turning it into a 8 lane freeway with three lane frontage roads, which will be free to drive, is such a horrible idea. I mean we can leave 281 the way it is now for the next, I don't know 20 years if you'd like.

No need to purchase any land, there's enough ROW on both sides.

MORON, US 281 is a Highway, it's not an INTERSTATE HIGHWAY! :rolleyes

You're calling me a moron?

I know 281 is a designated highway, just like State Highway 16 in both north and south San Antonio or State Highway 87 in southeast San Antonio. And so on.

However, they're just designated that, they don't function like freeways/highways. 281 north of 1604 is designed like a regular surface street thoroughfare not a free flowing freeway with no intersections.

It'll stay that way for 15-20 more years because of lack of funding, yes that sucks, and the way to get construction going now is via tolls.

yes you are a MORON! A Highway does not mean free flowing and no stops! That is an "INTERSTATE HIGHWAY"(AKA the BIG ROAD).
If you want to call me on this fine, you know shit about SA but I know shit about the "Highway System"!

Just for kicks, you are a Moron when it come to The Highway system.

He's a bit of a moron when it comes to toll roads too, or maybe he likes paying twice for using the same road.

An interstate highway is just a highway that goes from one state into another.

It's nothing special.

And as for your definition on freeway, well.

Well considering I'm only 22, I never paid for 281 in the first place.

Second, 281 north of 1604 was never funded by tax payer money to be upgraded because had it, it'd be a 6 lane freeway already, but it's not.

MORON, who said freeway and what 1900 dictionary do you use?

Go to any truck stop and ask them " what is the fastest way to Victoria. They will all say HIGHWAY 87.

This is my last post on this, buy an Atlas (a book with maps) and you will see you are wrong. May be what you learned in school has changed. But I have over 300,000 miles driving experience, i'm pretty sure i'm right!

Oh god, do you have some type of reading problem? I already told you about 87 and it being designated a highway. I get that, I know what that means. But its not a free flowing highway with no intersections.

Anyway, you want to argue semantics like a 14 year old, you go right ahead.

You want to throw a hissy fit because I said 281 north of 1604 isn't a free flowing highway (freeway if you want to be anal) with no interuptions, you be my guest and go ahead.

regardless of what its called...freeway, highway, whatever...

i think we all agree somehow, some way, it needs to be improved to stop all the congestion.

bottom line looks like funding is not and will not be there.

so gotta move to plan b

toll it up

do what you must

but stop the congestion.

Probably in California where its normal for the use of freeway. Some in other parts of the US say Expressway or Express.

They're basically interchangeable words. Like asking for pop when you want a coke.

You're the one being anal and trying your damnest to argue semantics.

Paying twice for a goddamn road is beyond annoying

question for those bitching so loudly about the 281/1604 toll road issue.

how many of you guys actually drive in that area on a daily basis?

I do, every day at least twice a day, and yeah having to pay to drive on a road sucks, but I am more than willing to pay for it if it means that the traffic situation will be relieved. With the addition of 2 more traffic lights in the past 2 months there are now 7 stop lights on Hwy 281 between 1604 and the Bexar/Comal county line. What used to take me 20 minutes to get into San Antonio now takes me over 45. And getting home at 5 pm is well over an hour and a half. And with the new retail development at Stone Oak, this is just going to get MUCH worse before it gets any better, and if a toll road is the answer to traffic relief, the Ill pay for it.

My grandfather lives in Bulverde, and has FOREVER (Turn Left right after Mouse's - by the boat place). Anyway, I can remember in the late '70's riding my BICYCLE from ther, and meeting my dad at the intersection of 1604 & 281 - before McCallister was extended all the way out....

Grew up in Helotes - in '77 there was ONE stop light between 410 and Floore's Country Store - and that was at Wurzbach, now there's, what, 25?

I solved ALL the traffic problems, however; moved to a small town in economically blighted Western Pennsylvania.

Toll Roads Suck, btw; but it's gonna happen.
