View Full Version : Worst ABC commercial song for NBA on ABC?

1. This is when a heart breaks. (reminiscent b/c of the championship, but it still sucks ass)

2. "Lets get it started" (wasn't that bad)

3. Right now! (real good visuals but plz stop saying 'right now"!

am i missing one?

They are all equally as bad. It didn't take long for ABC to ruin sunday afternoon basketball.

Without a doubt, this is when a heart breaks is the worst...it has no redeeming qualities.

"Right Now" is by far the worst.

"Let's get it started" was a good choice.

I like "This is How a Heart Breaks" only because it reminds me of the Spurs winning in 2005.

"Right Now" is by far the worst.
Yep. Even the scantily clad women can't salvage it for me. The John Tesh music from the 90s was the best by far IMO.

"This Is How A Heart Breaks"

The 2005 Spurs deserve extra credit for that championship, having to play during that fucking mess.

Didn't TNT have some fucked up version of "higher ground" a few years back? Even that was better than that nightmare they've got now. What time signature is that, 7/4?

The chicks are hot in Right Now, but it's not like guys are watching NBA basketball with their pants down or anything. It'd be a great intro for women's tennis.

By far the worst was that stupid Phil Collins song in 2005 that ESPN always played. This is How a Heart Breaks was lame as fuck though.

I don't remember the Phil Collins song - I probably blocked it out or something.

:tu Seriously...I was feeling slightly dizzy. WTF are they doing?

And don't even get me started on Hubie Brown. He's a good analyst who obviously knows his shit, but in an exciting basketball game on national TV...if you want to attract more people to watch you need more exciting and colorful commentators who know how to make the game and play by play sound more exciting than, "Shaq is like a honeybee comb...he just attracts attention wherever he goes." :lol That's a direct Hubie quote from today, by the way.

And the worst song I agree would be "This is How a Heart Breaks." I mean...I didn't even get the connection between the NBA and the song. :wtf Let's get it started wasn't too bad...but "Right Now" also sucks. They should use some Jay -Z "Bring em Out Brin em Out" :lol

My friends and I haven't figured out who the hell those chicks are. Are they actual cheerleaders? It would make sense with the jerseys and marginal singing talent. The music really does suck. Obstructed View is dead on. Not even the cheerleaders can salvage the mess. Besides the song sucking, the girls really can't sing very well.

To be honest, I hate all three, but I'd have to say this one is the worst.

im guessing it's connected because whoever loses has their heart broken, hence the name of the song. thats how i see it atleast.

How the hell did they get a contract? They can't sing at all! Oh wait, there's five members, right? I guess there's 10 reasons why the five girls got a contract :rolleyes

yeah, I hate ABC Sundays, those segues and intros ARE TERRIBLE ...And the pop song promotion for the Finals isn't that cool. They're alright, but it's not really "traditional"

NBC WHYY DID YOU LOSE THE BID IN THAT ILL-FATED CONTRACT RENEWAL YEAR????

Can you imagine the youngest of this current, basketball fan generation, right now, are being deprived of having that little taste of nostalgia, that is John Tesh's glorious masterpiece?

Is there any way NBC could outbid them?

I can't imagine six more years, I always had this vain hope in the back of my mind that NBC would somehow get the rights back.
And ABC's reign of terror would be subverted.

NBC is the rightful owner of NBA rights.(Though, I heard CBS wasn't so bad)

—Bob Costas, on the network's last broadcast in 2002.Right now, two years before the end of the contract, Stern is working to extend ABC's contract... so this is going to be it for a long time. NBC could outbid, and they could have in 2002 too but they were getting losses with their current low bid and had no desire to go higher it seems. Disney owns ESPN/ABC so they have no problem absorbing losses on large bids.

From 2002 (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2001-02_NBA_season) to 2006 (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2005-06_NBA_season), the NBA's ratings on broadcast television (ABC) have dropped almost a full ratings point (from nearly a 3.0 average rating to just above a 2.0 rating). NBC averaged a 5.5 average rating during the 2002 NBA Playoffs (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2002_NBA_Playoffs). ABC averaged a 3.3 average rating for the 2005 NBA Playoffs (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2005_NBA_Playoffs).

That reminds me about another thing that ABC does that annoys me. They always try to downplay how loud it actually is in the arena. On NBC, you often had the announcers competing with the fans.

I hate the TNT crew, outside of Barclay himself. Mute goes on durring Walton, Brown, and Thompson. Marv is a parody of himself.
