its gonna be like James Bond with a laser getting closer to your eye... burning your cheek ever so slowly as it crawls across your face... as it reaches your eye your going to hear this poping/sizzling noise... kinda like bacon in a skillet.... Then there's the smell of the smoke.... Dont blink, just endure the exquisit pain... if you blink you will lose your eyelid forever and your eye will shrivel up because of the dryness.

I'm going to Berkley Eye Center ... It's a pretty penny, but they're nice and such. They're off Weslayan & West Alabama.
Did you have the Intralase or did they use a blade?

mine was about $3,000 :dizzy
I'm about to get braces too so there goes another $3,000 :dizzy :greedy :dizzy
anyway, gosh i don't even remember what I got, what is the difference? I think it was Intralase. all i know is that it took maybe 20 minutes at the most and you feel some pressure on your eyes but it's not really THAT painful. The freakiest part is that they have your eyes held open by a device but at one point during the procedure your vision goes blank. like you see nothing, just blackness, but your eye is open!! so weird but then you start to see the little red flashing light and your vision starts to come back. scary that you are like blinded for a few seconds :wow

Yah, mine is going to be about $4k ... shit, wish mine was $3k. They didn't tell me anything about going blind for a few seconds, but I knew about the device that holds your eyes open.
Main difference is between normal & intralase - I don't want a $%#@$# blade near my eye :)

rarely, but it does happen. also you can start losing the sharpness of your vision when you are older. I like the fact that I have the option to ever go back if i need it. mine was financed in a year with no interest too, it was all a very good deal!

Hey I got it done like 2 yrs ago and I had the Intralase done. It cost me about 4500 but so worth it. You just feel a little pressure and then you can smell it. Nothing major. But it was cool when I woke up from the sleeping pills they give you and you can see the clock on the other side of the room.

had it done in the winter of 03.
They give ya a sleeping pill, when you lay down you just get really really groggy, and you pretty much are just blah through the whole thing.
The only thing that bothered me was it felt like there was something in my eyes the little bit of time after that.
Remember to get your artificial tears also, they are really important for the healing of the eyes.

My friend went to the doctor who does the Spurs and it cost about $4K, took about 30 min, had no pain or complications and is 100% satisfied. I got an evaluation about 5 years ago and he said he couldn't get my vision any better than a pair of hard contacts. But he also said every year you wait will bring newer, better technology. It seems like the time is right. Good luck, I think you will probably LOVE it!

I'm 23 ... the chances of me needing reading glasses are pretty small, period. Only people who wear bifocals are my Dad's parents ... and you can't stop the aging of eyes - which is why most people wear reading glasses, it's not the same thing as how your cornea is shaped, which is what causes near & far-sightedness.

I had this done last July. The real hassle about this is the visits and tests you have to go through before the surgery actually happens. Once you go in for the procedure, they tell you step by step what they're going to do, then ask you if you want a valium to settle you down. 20 minutes later, you're laying down, they place a glass type suction cup on your eye and open the lid. They "gloss" your eyeballs and hit the laser. They do that to the other eye as well.
The procedure itself will take a total of 10 minutes or so. The only thing that sucks is that you can smell the laser, which smells like burnt hair. Afterwards, they give you a shit load of eye drops, which your going to have to put in like 30 times a day. You will feel uncomfortable (like eyelashes in your eye), and you'll wear sunglasses indoors for the first day and a half.
Also, I don't know how it will go for you, but they told me it takes about 1 month or so to see PERFECTLY. So if at first you don't notice a HUGE difference like they promised, trust me, just wait it out.
Hope this helps

I'm having CustomVue done, which is why it's so expensive. But they say that you should see 20/20 the day after your surgery with the customvue, or at least close to it. And yes, the big pain in the ass is the appointments before and after the procedure.
I already have 3 different eye drops for Thursday (surgery is on friday.)

I think I had that one as well (had it done at The Lasik Center on 410). Right after I got out of the procedure and was being briefed on all the eye drops and everything, one of the nurses told me to look out the window and see if I could notice a difference, which I did.

I was legally blind with astigmatism and I now have 20/15 vision. I would totally do it again if I had to. And with any body getting old, you may need reading glasses later but not till your in late 40's, it's the same aging process as with someone who has perfect vision. Good luck with it!!!! you will absolutely love it.

Definitely get the Intralase, let the laser (and technology) do the work. Blade? No thanks.
Had mine done last January, best $3500 I ever spent. One word of caution though, if you start to get dry eyes with the drops the doc gives you, go to the store and try something different.
They gave me Refresh brand at the eye place, those made my eyes dry all the damn time. I tried Thera Tears and was completely off of eye drops about two weeks later other than a windy day here and there.

i've been looking to get this done for a while now. the only thing keeping me back were those shows on tlc i've seen where they show the dude with the scalpel cutting away a thin layer of the eye before they shoot the laser. that always creeped me out seeing the person still awake and them cutting your eye like that.

If I remember correctly, my ophthalmologist recommended me not going outside in broad daylight...best you can do is not make yourself vulnerable to areas in your home that refract light (like windows)...
I don't remember having issues with glare or halos other than the few times I stepped outside with those darkened plastic glasses they give out.

Did my procedure in 03 and Dr. George Boozalis told me that he had done thousands of procedures and mine was the only insurance that covered the cost of this operation ..Saved me a bunch . See his site and the first thing he will do is classified you per age? Will offer different things according to your age? 18 to 40 and 41 to 60 and 61 and above . Guess he does different things according to your age group ???? Look it up ? Dr. George Boozalies born in Freeport and his practice in Victoria . Victoria Eye Center and look at how he will triage your operation according to diffeent age spans...Its only 130 miles or so but he has the best bedside manner plus he is a very good eye surgeon. Has lots of local offices in Beeville, Port Lavaca , Yoakum, Cureo and Corpus . If anyone is looking into this procedure please go see this Dr. first ...its free for the first visit and he will really impress you . If your from out of town he will shortend some of the appointmenat so you will keep your visit to a bare minimun. He did a twik on me back in 08 and did cartacts in 2011 BUT the only bad thing is that i had to wear readers but now he can correct iot with surgery and not need readers just the operations which cost a grand or so
Wow it all adds up?
