When I taught an Alcohol Seller's Training class, I was always told those stripes would one day prove that the ID was authentic by allowing retailers to swipe the card to verify your age. It was suppoed to help fight fake IDs. This was in 1999. I guess they finally did it, almost a decade later.
It is a little "1984"-ish, though. Good thing Wal-Mart's beer selection sucks and I don't buy alcohol there. They don't swipe your ID at Target and the selection is better, plus you can make your own four-pack of individual bottles. Gotta love that.

Well, it is my firm belief that as soon as they get smoking banned everywhere and tobacco outlawed, they are coming after me and my beer. Who knows what kind of info they're gathering.

they only have wine at the target near me :(. i don't think it's a super duper target though, they only have a limited food selection - just boxed/canned/frozen items. no produce, no bakery.

Yeah the Super Targets are the ones with a good selection. I have tried a few of the 'make your own 4-packs' from there. At $6 its pricey, but better than buying a whole six pack of each at $7-9 and then not liking them. I have found many new imported beers that I liked that way, that I wouldn't have normally spent the money on for an entire 6-pack.

I havent' had a drop of alcohol in almost three weeks. And I used to teach that class, I was certified by the TABC and taught it for HEB. I probably have my old license around somewhere to prove it.

i used to work at walmart.
my boss was always hassling me about smiling to the customers.
i tried, but sometimes it's
physically
painful
to smile.
she didn't understand.
she also would make me wash my eyeliner off when i came to work. one time i wore the blackest liner i could find, and also wore black lipstick just to FREAK HER OUT.
i figured she'd fire me, but instead she just insulted me.
the emotional abuse i suffer is not limited to my home..............

Walmart can better serve your needs if we know more about you.
When I'm cashiering at my work we have to swipe DL or ID if you buy certain types of OTC products. We just have to check ID for Liquor and Cigs.

Yeah when I did the TABC deal a few years ago they mentioned that was the whole reasoning behind the magnetic strip. Walmart actually uses it I guess.

they do that overhere at nightclubs
but it is illegal for them to sell or keep ur information on the database, but if you got nothing to hide, i think there is no problem complying with the complex rules if you wanna get in.....
but they are meant discard the stored information on the database after a week or a few days.....
telemarketing is a bitch, spammers

Knowing how W-M stores are well-connected in real-time, I'm sure your DL data and what you purchased is in Bentonville within seconds, stored forever.

Now that I think about it, we probably are gonna regret this someday...in court...when the state busts out our past alcohol purchases on a spreadsheet while our attorneys are trying to convince the jury that we only drink socially and the DWI was not a normal occurrence...
