Might as well create an official thread for this one. Lets see what Byrne can do this time. You got to give the AD respect, he has been doing a great job picking the new coaches. Hopefully it doesnt take too long like some other problamatic schools (i.e. Arkansas).

I dont know if we could lure any big names. We have money and facilities on the way. I think we could easily get a good mid-major coach but they'll probably be gone in 3 years too if they do well. Soooooo whatever. At least we'll get back to the days where only true aggie fans go to the basketball games.

Im thinking we go get Josh Lucas from "Glory Road." He coached just like Gillispie in the movie.

Well, that could be true... however, the comedian's name is Jon Stewart, so I'm sure he would have gotten it.
You think I would seriously recommend a Coach K failure (like Tommy Amaker) who ran a dirty program at a university that now employs previous Aggie head coach Melvin Watkins? Grow a brain.

Id love Jamie Dixon as long as he promised to not play players with 1 inch verticles ala Aaron Gray.

Here's a quote from an article in todays Houston Chronicle:
"Some of the names circulating as possibilities to take over the program that went 27-7 this past season include: Nevada coach Mark Fox, New Mexico State coach Reggie Theus, Pitt coach Jamie Dixon, UNLV coach Lon Kruger, Southern Illinois coach Chris Lowery, Nebraska coach Doc Sadler, former Stanford and Golden State Warriors coach Mike Montgomery, A&M assistant coach Alvin Brooks and Texas A&M-Corpus Christi coach Ronnie Arrow."

believe me, he wouldn't have no matter how i spell his name. and calling someone elses program dirty when you're an aggie is priceless.

Hmmm - let's see, I'm from Phoenix and went to Texas A&M in 2002... I wasn't a fan or around during the Jackie Sherrill days. A dark time for the Ags, I hear, but it didn't seem like it was as dark as the 60s & 70s when they were losing all the time.
Opened the door for a great run by R.C. Slocum and the return of the Aggies to greatness on and off the field (until Fran came along... and then it was just moderately good performance off the field except in the drive-thru at What-a-burger).
Still, I don't know how this compares to the basketball program... maybe I'll go give Tom Penders a call and ask him how his days at UT were... it's 2:20 on a Saturday, so he's probably already wasted.

why don't you just drive to UH and stop by his office instead.

You bring up a good point: TAMU's former coach gets a top-5 coaching gig in the SEC, while UT's former waste of space gets relegated to cougar country in the C-USA.

penders leaves a smaller slime trail behind than huggins, that's for sure. he has turned UH's program around pretty fast though. he wasn't a bad coach at all, has been pretty successful everywhere he's been. he won't win a title for you, but he can get you to the tourney. i guess that's kind've insulting though. you've really dropped off recently RM, you need to step it up.

I'm sorry - it's been a difficult 36 hours for me... I'll get back. However, Tom Penders did go on radio shows drunk and rip on his players. He also released a player's transcripts to a sports radio talk show when that player was failing class, so he's not the classiest guy. Also, if you look at his post-game comments, UH hasn't lost a game this season... the officials have lost them all.

Watch out for Wichita State's Turgeon and Winthrop's Greg Marshall. Im not saying I want them as my number one pick, but Bill Byrnes is contacting them.

According to ESPN, Turgeon's the man aTm wants to bring in. Should be announced officially later in the day. Odd choice and very quick at that.

At least he beat LSU, a feat that Billy could not achieve.

He had his mind made up on Turgeon before Billy left, as the replacement. So long to dreams of Jamie Dixon, Tim Floyd, Lon Krueger, Sean Sutton (LOL)...

I wanted Dixon or Kruger, or the guy from VCU. Maybe Turgs will work out well. Bound to be better than a Sutton.
