It's funny. Making 70 wins a goal is only something that lived in the minds of delusional Mavs fans, Spurs fans that were needing something to mock and those outside of the rivalry that watch too much Sportscenter. If the team reached 70 wins, it was only an effect of the team playing their brand of ball on the way to the playoffs.
Right now, the team is more worried about a piss-poor night against Denver. No one is moping over coming up short of 70 wins.
But continue to mock this imaginary bulletpoint to the Mavs season if it makes you feel better. I'll be over in the corner with the other realists.

The fact that there's a thread celebrating the Mavs not winning 70 games speaks for itself about the kind of season Dallas has had. They don't make threads about nobodies. Back in the dark days of Walter Bond, Mike Iuzzolino and Terry Davis did I ever imagine the Mavericks would be the target of so much envy and jealousy. This aint the nineties, or 2001 or 2003. LOL, yeah, I have yet to gloat over a Spurs loss or a Mavs wins over the Spurs this season, it's just something I do out of courtesy and I like just lurking and watching the meltdown...but I definitely will let it fly during the playoffs and I may just root for the Suns to win in the second round, nothing would be funnier. To be fair though, there are a few select posters I will be laughing at, there are some nice Spurs fans here that I wouldn't want to alienate.
It's always the same few Spurs fans that get all giddy about a Mavs' loss...usually the same people that start the fifty threads about a Spurs meltdown.

Come on, this is the best you can do? If Sperm fans aren't jealous, why are they celebrating the Mavs not winning seventy games? "You guys are merely the best team in the league this year, you're not the best team of all time!" That is some weak trash talk.

This is true and you are definitely correct and I don't think Spurs fans are jealous, more like uncertain about how the playoffs will turn out for their team...this should be the case for the fans of any of the contending teams. However, would you rather be the Celtics this season or the Mavericks/Spurs/Suns this season watching the playoffs? Sometimes, you just wanna live in the present and enjoy basketball and it can be frustrating if your team sucks this season...no number of trophies from the past matter if you're a real fan. Of course, the Spurs trophies are a lot more recent and that team is far from rebuilding but by your logic, think about how Celtics fans feel...they don't even show up and root for their team, attendance has been way down among the *real* fans. So, there can be jealousy for certain teams that haven't won in a long time, does nothing to help the fact that idiots run your team in the present. All I'm saying is, I disagree with that "never" part of your statement.

All we have heard all season long from Spurs fans is that the regular season is "meaningless"...so, what does it matter if the Mavs win 70 games, or 65, or even 62?
But those 62 "meaningless" wins means that Dallas doesn't have to play both the Suns AND the Spurs. Hmmm...that is pretty meaningful, don't you think?

Aw, I wanted them to get 70...because like someone else said,
it would have been sweeter if the Mavs possibly lost to us and (or Suns) and didn't make it to the finals being that 70 win team.
Then they'd be one of those sidenote teams. And in future Sports forum discussions, "Everyone knows so-and-so went on to win the 2007th Finals...but guess which team had 70 wins? Nope, not so-and-so, you'd think by the way they rolled through the playoffs; guess again!
...Mark Cuban and That Big Gay German's Mavs..." " oh yeahhhh...them! Didn't they lose after being up 2-0 in the finals agains that one-hit-wonder team of old farts and wonderboy Wade, the year before too?? OUCH. Bwahahaa"
but nah seriously, big deal. Mavs will probably finish 67, 68, and they definitely can go all the way. (and p.s. the future forum dude for effect, called Dirk a big gay German. I personally, still kind of like Dirk...when he's not playing us of course.)
I don't even think it matters if they cool off for the last two weeks. Hopefully JHo will be good and ready when for the post-season.

70 wins = pointless. Just a number.
The only time a team that won more than 65 games failed to win the championship, it was because their best player got hurt in the playoffs.
The Mavs better keep those ankles on Nowitzki and Howard wrapped nice and tight.

no one likes to hear the media fawning over their rival team. sure, it was the media hyping the 70 wins thing, but as a spurs fan, or a fan of any other team, that gets pretty obnoxious, so it's only natural to be relieved when they fall short. i personally don't feel the number 70 has any magic properties, but it WILL be nice to finally put the whole irritating issue to rest. i'm sure a lot of mavs fans feel the same way, and many of them have said as much. we all know that if the spurs had a shot at 70 wins, and had let it slip away due to a mini-slump at the end of the season, there would be several mavs fans in here excitedly gloating over that fact. probably some of the same mavs fans who are shrugging off this round of mockery and accusing spurs fans of envy. there is no logic to trash talk. trash talk is all about getting under your opponent's skin. why do people on here inisist on debating the intellectual merits of trash talk? it's baffling.

Mavs pretty much wrapped up the #1 seed with their 6-0 roadtrip a couple of weeks back. And hey, the Heat lost to the Bobcats yesterday with both Shaq and Wade in the lineup. Are we to conclude that losing to Charlotte at home says anything about Miami's post-season chances? Of course not. But if we applied the same logic to Dallas, there'd be nothing to talk smack about, right?

March & April last season, the Mavs went 15-11 (including losses to San Antonio, Detroit, Cleveland, and 2 to the Suns). And they had the three game losing streak that led to the infamous tirade in Orlando.
None of that "faltering" seemed to affect them too much against San Antonio in the playoffs...

You know who else is playoff-ready? Miami. Forget the 6 turnovers and the 3-9 shooting yesterday against Charlotte. D-Wade got 12 FTAs in 26 minutes. That comes out to 22 FTAs per 48 minutes.

Color me morose and cynical, but there's only three teams that can beat the Mavericks fair and square: Detroit, San Antonio and Phoenix. I really don't want to see Cleveland make it to the Finals, because I love LeBron, and I don't want to watch him shoot 28 FT's a game against us. Don't worry, if the Suns and Spurs can't knock us off, David Stern will.
