Duff, I'm going to speak a little bit on this.

I bet he was simply on an adrenaline high (or coming off of it hard). I don't know that it happens to everyone, but anytime I've been involved in a news story that's got so much going on at once, I've had a rush of adrenaline come over me to get me through it.

If it's something major enough, you tend to come down hard.

When I interned at KENS-TV back in the mid-90's, two distinct times it happened to me were when Sheila Bellish was murdered and we were racing around to get as much info from Florida as we could and when TWA Flight 800 went down.

It was really weird for me to see so many updates and "reports" coming down on the wire at once. Once the newscast finished and I got into the car, I simply broke down crying from the overwhelming emotion.

The guy was scared shitless, I think he thought someone was going to kick his ass for his BS interviews, like the one he did with Pete Rose. If you can't stand the heat get out of the kitchen. This is why I stay home. But for him it's his job, he should have been loving this.

Jim Gray is a sad excuse of a reporter sometimes. Last night was one of those nights. He said Artest got hit point blank? WTF? And then the dude cried. Yikes.

I'm no fan of Gray, but it was clear that he was out of breath and didn't have much of a voice left. That was apparent in his interview with Carlisle as well.

He wasn't crying.

Jim probably pissed his pants he was so afraid. When Tyson fought Lewis, Gray had to stand a mere foot away from Mike before the fight for an interview. Mind you all Mike's reputation, size, punching power, etc plus the fact that he said he'd rip this opponent's heart out and eat his kids. Jim was SHAKING and you could see it through the microphone. Him pissing his pants after this fight wouldn't surprise me at all. Ol' Jim probably won't ever be asked to be an embedded reporter.

Ron Artest probably pissed on him. Then Jermaine pissed on him after that for good measure
