I lived in the Dallas area when Jason Kidd played there. I did not much care for NBA basketball. I thought it was a hip hop sport, not my taste. Anways I moved here @ 92 or 93, and within a week of being here I was hooked on the Spurs. And I will be a Spurs fan till death do us part. Por vida!

1999...I remember I was in 2nd grade and I had to do the sports section and became hooked on the Spurs since

I think I cried in 2000 when Timmy went down injured and we lost to the Suns and then having to deal with all those losses to the Lakers

Wasn't Channel 3 (WOAI-TV) going by the call sign KMOL back in the early 1970s when the Spurs came to town? Never mind, they went from WOAI-TV to KMOL in '75. Anyways....

I was a Dallas Chaparrals fan when Terry Stembridge did the radio play-by-play for them - prior to Terry moving with the team to SA.

Oh I watched all the games and enjoyed it, I've been an NBA fan since birth and I was a quasi-Spurs fan then because of Tim. But I really didn't love the Spurs yet.

2002 I think - Spurs v. Lakers playoff, Spurs won and I got 20 bucks from my Laker fan uncle and he couldnt believe it either. If I had lost I would have shined his shoes.

I recall that loud mouth Jim Fowler on KSAT-12 (formally known as News Watch 12).
I also recall George McKensie...that guy was awesome. I would watch then to get updated on Spurs games. The internet was non existent back then...therefore I went to them.

I became a Spurs Fan when George Gervin scored 33 pts in one quarter, 73 for the game, against the New Orleans Jazz (1978?)

I remember hearing the game on the radio, that's when Ice won the scoring championship that year.

Ice had 63 that night. David Thompson of the Nuggets poured in 73 earlier in the day, but Ice got just enough to win the scoring title.

If Ice had reached 73, that would be the Spurs record, which it can't be since David Robinson's 71 is the Spurs franchise record.

I think not. The league was not as watered down with expansion as it is today. Gervin's outside shooting and famous ability to make tough shots would make him a scoring leader in this era. The dude was unstoppable!

He was there until about 1991....where did he go from there? The Heat website doesn't say much.

there's weren't a lot of televised games back then, so i listened a lot.

The Miami Heat site names him as Sam Smith who they hired as their first ply by play man for that franchise....1987 I think.

That's a good question. Last I heard from him, I think he went to Miami to be the Heat's broadcaster when they first came into the league. Haven't heard anything since.
