Kings:

No Artest
No Corliss
No Quincy Douby (who?)
Someone else, I forget.

Good Luck Spurs. :lol

In case the game becomes boring, be sure and take a good look at PF Justin Williams and PG Ronnie Price, just in case they don't make some kind of impact and get lost in the shuffle. These are Kings' future!

trueD, say a few words about justin williams. i don't know anything about him.
Justin Williams is 220, about 6'10', is a baller who works well around the basket. He is long and atheletic, and he can get to the basket from half court before the shot does. He doesn't have much jump shot yet, but has improved his FT shooting this year by about 40%. He's not afraid to dive for loose balls, and can body up your big men pretty good.

I personally wub him. :)

you know if we really want to dominate in the playoffs this team must improve their rebounding esp Elson who is now starting. He's so inconsistent. We all know what he can do and how athletic he is but we don't see it every time he's on the floor. This team is simply lacks rebounding that makes them one of hardest teams to beat during the twin towers yrs.

what is this news that Brent Barry banged his head again? why he kept banging his head against other players :lol
------------------------------
from Express News

There is something about the Sacramento Kings that gives Spurs guard Brent Barry a headache.
For the third time this season, and the second time against the Kings, Barry banged heads with an opposing player and required the attention of trainer Will Sevening.

This time it was Kings guard Kevin Martin who cracked noggins with Barry with 1:27 left in the Spurs' 109-100 victory Wednesday at the AT&T Center.

At least Barry did not require stitches to close a wound this time around. When he butted heads with Kings guard Ronnie Price on Nov. 19 in Sacramento, he needed two layers of stitches, nine on top and three under the skin, to close a gash.

"They call me 'Bones' for a reason," said the slender veteran. "There's not much between my skin and my skeletal system."

Yes, he had a great scoring night against Portland, yet THE TEAM wasn't scoring more points than it was allowing while he was out there, in part because Jarrett Jack was lighting him up pretty decent in his own right and in part because our interior defense was crap.

Today, when I wrote what I did about Tony, in the 3rd quarter, he was a -10 at that point. Can you comprehend that? The team was getting outscored with him on the floor by 10. Why? Because, in part, Bibby was scoring a lot of points.

He finished the game at an even zero +/- because in the 4th he turned up the defense. He took one whole shot and missed it, but he had two dimes in a quarter the team scored 30 points.

I've said this over and over again, but nobody seems to understand. The team doesn't need Tony to score a lot to win, they just need him to play smart team basketball. If you pay attention to the games and studied the data, you'd figure these things out for yourself.

The best games Tony plays and the best games we play as a team are when he's locked in on defense and not looking for his shot so much.

You wanna call me biased or a hater, go ahead. But I do my research and I pay attention.

Alright, I'm just saying, just lay off Tony a little.

It looked like you were singling him out at times.

I'm sure you're criticizing him. And I didn't get to watch the game today.
IMO , I think he's starting to get a feel for when to run the offense smoother and when to score this year, but for the most part, he still has those lapses where he looks for his shot "tunnel vision" and the rest of the team offense stagnates.

Also apparently Tony was a little tight in the game, because he was hurt. We won anyway. Besides, I don't think what you're disappointed about Tony's shortcomings during games like these, is ever a problem during the playoffs, in terms of affecting whether we're in the "minus" or not.

SRJ
04-12-2007, 05:24 AM
aaronstampler, I am perfectly willing to accept your statistical findings as fact. However, the tone of your posts is hard to deal with for this reason:

Your consistent assertion is that Tony Parker is shooting too often and selecting poor shots, and you seem to take Parker to task for it. Why wouldn't you lay the blame for this at the feet of Gregg Popovich?

From all accounts, Popovich is generally comfortable with the volume of Tony's shooting. He has evidently decided that the team performs satisfactorily with Tony playing the point guard position in the way that he plays it. One could argue that Popovich has simply played the hand he was dealt, but the opportunity existed, just a few short years ago, to change direction at point guard. Instead, Parker was offered a new contract of 6 years and 66 million dollars. Presumably, what Popovich thought about Parker's game had a big influence on that contract offer. Again, by all accounts, there is no evidence that the Parker contract went through over Pop's objections.

If Parker's play is in consistent conflict with Pop's gameplan, then Parker should be criticized. But, after weighing the evidence, I have to conclude that Parker is playing the game Popovich wants him to play most of the time. Therefore, it would seem that your criticism of Parker's role lies with the coach, not the player.

I'm not trying to be snarky or fan any flames here - I'm just relating what I see. I hope I was fair, and I did my level best to be civil about it.

I don't mean to single him out or anything, but it gets annoying when people get excited about a player out for just having a good scoring game, especially at the point guard position, and don't pay attention to the other things.

Except for the 4th quarter last night, Tony has been pretty lax on defense the last three games. It's frustrating because up to this point I had thought that defense was his biggest improvement this season, besides the FT shooting.

His ability to stay with and frustrate Iverson, Barbosa, even holding up against Billups was critical in wins over Denver, Phoenix and Detroit. How many opposing points has he gotten pissed off to the point of technical fouls and ejections this year?

I was unaware he was hurt and perhaps if that's the case Kori was right. It just appeared to me that he was expending most of his effort/energy at one end of the floor for the majority of the game, and absolutely nobody on the Spurs can play that way.
