Melvin Ely earned every cent of his salary for the year just by picking Madsen.

I hate Mark Madsen. It seems like every time he steps onto the court, he forgets that he's playing basketball and just goes to hurt people, which would be fine, if his team used his as an enforcer. They don't. They gave him a contract thinking he will contribute in some useful, statistical way. Never happens. Dude should have given up basketball after college.

His career stats follow a curve, with a perfect increase and then decrease, piquing at 3.6 ppg and 3.8 rpg. This season he's averaging 1.0 ppg and .9 rpg, indicating that he should probably just retire this summer.

:lol

I think Madsen crashing into a screen like that was pretty much inevitable. He's like one of those toy mouses you have to wind up and let go, the only thing stopping it is going to be the first thing it hits.

LMFAO at Madsen. I can totally see madsen playing the role of forest in forest gump. Mark must have a jenny in his life that tells him "whatever you do Mark, you just run, once you get in there just run".

He was getting his ass kicked out there last night. Sean Elliott said "he plays every game like its his last." I just couldnt stop laughing at him, he fell to the floor at least 4 times in the second half.

The acquistion of Bonner was a great pickup. He has size, shooting, rebounds well (for a Spur bench player anyway) and is learning to play Spur's defense.

Most of all, ya gotta love his hustle and desire. That's an intangible that feeds into other players when the team is in the "blahs" and not playing well.

I say, more minutes for the Red Rocket.

Ely doesn't rebound very well, at least what he's shown in silver and black. He has like 6 in 39 minutes. He also looks to be a bit of a black hole on offense, and with little reason. He shot 1-5 in his only extended minutes so far. Worse, the ball never came back out once he got it.

:tu I'd love to see him get more play time!

No question Bonner is a keeper. On the other hand, the jury is still out on Ely. Would love to see him go through an entire training camp and then have the Spurs evaluate. The upside is that he's in the middle of his career and can still develop.

I'd hate to see the Spurs give up on him soon after the season - unless of course they use him as a trade chip to upgrade talent somewhere else.

^^^^^ If they do not release him, they will try to see what they have with him, and if they dont like the way it fits into their system, then he'll be trade fodder.

Ely is an unrestricted FA I believe.

It would be nice if he signed a 1 year offer, and worked with the guys in the offseason and training camp, I believe hes got great potential.

Move Jackie up into the regular rotation next year.

Adios Beef Jerky boy.

I know but it's easy to understand. He got a few more minutes in NO but here he's been out of the loop completely. Under those conditions a lot of players are gonna try to hog the ball and show something in garbage time when they get a few minutes. I guess they figure all of the other guys have had a chance for more minutes and this is their only shot. FA isn't far away.

All that being said, it looks like the coaching staff is not as enamoured of him as was once thought. Didn' t they like him a lot last year? It was rumored so.

I did hear that too. As someone mentioned earlier, I like the idea of a 1-year offer to see if he can work his way into the rotation.

If Oberto had Ely's physical abilities or if Ely had Oberto's basketball instincts and desire, the Spurs would have another good player.

If Oberto could jump 1 inch and block a shot, he'd be an all star.

Hes got great skills, hes one of the best passing bigs I've witnessed on a Spurs team.

he plays VERY well in a play set offense, and when they go to motion he moves great.

His athleticism is just so poor, that he looks sooo bad at times.

If hes got the adrenaline going though, it seems he gets more active.
