Hello KMOL-TV?

Clear Channel sells TV group for $1.2B
SAN ANTONIO

Clear Channel Communications Inc., the nation's largest operator of radio stations, said Friday it agreed to sell its television group to a private equity firm for $1.2 billion.

The sale was expected and comes two days after Clear Channel agreed to a sweetened buyout bid of $19.35 billion from private equity firms Bain Capital Partners LLC and Thomas H. Lee Partners LP, despite opposition from two large shareholders who say the price is too low.

The sale Friday, to Providence Equity Partners, includes 56 television stations in 24 markets and the associated Web sites. Clear Channel, which also owns a large outdoor advertising unit, expects the sale to generate proceeds of $1.1 billion and to close in the fourth quarter, pending regulatory approval.

The TV group comprises 10 CW, eight Fox, seven NBC, six ABC, six CBS, four My Network TV, two NBC Weather Plus, two Telemundo, five independent stations, and six stations affiliated with Clear Channel's Variety Television Network, the company said.

The sale of the TV group is not contingent upon completion of the Clear Channel buyout by Bain Capital and Thomas H. Lee Partners.

Clear Channel plans to hold a shareholder vote on the sale of the company on May 8.

Clear Channel shares closed Thursday at $35.96 on the New York Stock Exchange.

I doubt WOAI changes call letters as those were its original call letters, before Clear Channel owned WOAI.

Hopefully with this sell, WOAI will stop being so amatuer with its broadcasts. Maybe even a new set will come about and hopefully they will reduce their weather coverage from 40 percent of the telecast to 20 percent.

Ehh, small markets like SA don't have near the resources for broadcasts that most metros do. Most of your talent leaves for greener pastures which leaves you with the Chris Marrous and Randy Beamers (tho actually I like both of them just fine).

You think you get a lot of weather coverage? Last week in D/FW one night we had literally HOURS of coverage. No national news, no local news, just a bunch of idiots showing radars and talking about some very small tornadoes that came through parts of the area. "I'm standing out here and it is getting very dark" repeated ad nauseum.

Maybe the new owners will hire a Chief Meteorologist that can actually say "meteorologist".

I'm not talking about days when the weather may call for commercial free weather broadcasts. I'm talking about everything newscasts, WOAI is all about talking about the weather. It can be sunny, cloudless, windless for 7 days but WOAI will spend 8-10 minutes each half hour broadcast talking about it. Why it'll be like that and show you with every different map they have.

That's why they're 3rd. That and other reasons, but mostly that.

what bugs the shit out of me regarding their weather segment is:

1. it can be a cloudless, sunny ass day yet they will open by saying 'lets look at the 4x4 radar and see if it's tracking any rain in the area....

2. seemingly the whole segment revolves around S.Texas whick makes sense, but at least give us a brief recap of what's happening across the nation.

3. if you're going to put up the temps across the map of S.Texas, dont sit there and read every single one back to me.

From what I understand, Clear Channel owns the rights to the call letters WOAI. They still own the radio station, but the TV station will have to change it's call letters.

If you would just watch KSAT 12, you wouldn't have this problem. And the chicks are incredibly hotter.

Anyway, it was WOAI-TV in the 1970s, but I thought it had changed to KMOL-TV a long time ago.

If Clear Channel owns the letters, wouldn't they have gone to whoever just bought all the TV stations?

WOAI Radio was there before WOAI TV, So I would think that TV would change it's call letters.

My guess

The NBC affiliate here in Victoria is KMOL. We'll be happy to let those call letters go...for a reasonable price.

The ENS in KENS stands for Express News Station, but the Excuse for News (sorry Blaze...old habit) sold it a long time ago.

Maybe they will keep the call letters so they don't have to change again.

You can buy and sell call letters, so yeah you can own them.

IIRC 99.5 has turned down some large sums of money to keep their call letters.

Lisle and Hahn used to talk about it when I would listen to them.

According to wikipedia.com:
The TV station was sold off to United Television (at the time a subsidiary of 20th Century Fox) in 1975, changing its call letters to KMOL-TV.

You can buy and sell call letters, so yeah you can own them. The student radio station at MIT used to be called WTBS back in the 70s/early 80s.

Some guy in Atlanta decided he wanted those letters, so he bought them from the station for something like $25K, which they used to upgrade their equipment.

When they're not pimping the weather like mad, they're talking about diseases and how it's related to some "cause" that they'll have going. Granted, I'm not a mean person and I'm all for charity but give it a rest. I mean do we really care that Tous (or whatever the hell that place is) supplied Delaine Mathieu's jewlery? No, we don't.

I think Jennifer "I buy my clothes at Blair" Broome does an excellent job, but they just need to cut back some of it. She's not auditioning for "The Weather Channel". But hey, least they're not putting Don Harris or David Chancellor on more. Those two clowns think their Walter Winchell and Chris Berman with their "act". Give it up guys...FOX Sports and ESPN wouldn't want you.

Not only does he lurk here but he has posted a few times. He won't even read or answer my e mails due to the fact I talked smack whith him in the Spurs forum one night. I sent him an Email telling him that the Don Harris vs David Chancellor catch the tennis balls contest was not fair since the machine was tossing the balls at a faster rate when Don was trying to catch them and it lost air pressure when David tired to catch them. David caught like 9 out of 10 Don caught like 2 out of 10.

But as soon as he saw my Hotmail account he deleted the email. Same thing with the Charlie Parker morning show they would ask for certain Emails and PMs and they would skip over mine. You could tell they had to read mine to decide who it came from.

Even David made a comment should we read this one and Charlie said "NO!"

I had made a few Brokeback mountain photo shops of them two after David had admitted to seeing the movie.

Charlie did not find any humor in them. So with that said how can you take anything that station says as the truth? After all wasn't LJ Kori Peter Burns and Stacie huge Nate Lundy fans when he had the program director position and now he's just some guy they knew. :lmao
