Oberto OK To Play After Heart Procedure
22nd April, 2007 - 2:48 am
San Antonio Express-News -
Spurs backup center Fabricio Oberto will play tonight, four days after undergoing a procedure to correct his heart arrhythmia.

Oberto practiced Saturday afternoon. He stayed after and played some one-on-one with Jackie Butler and Melvin Ely. Spurs coach Gregg Popovich said Oberto had no problems and will be cleared to play.

Oberto unexpectedly developed the arrhythmia after he was hit in the neck during last week's game in Dallas. After a visit to a cardiologist Wednesday night revealed the problem, Oberto had his heart rate restored to its normal rhythm.

With Oberto available, the Spurs should have their regular 12-man active roster tonight. James White, Butler and Ely are expected to spend the game on the inactive list.

Sounds like he is back to full health. After the recent outpouring of sympathy good wishes, he can now go back to being whipping boy, for the sin of not being the Admiral...

No, it was a hit to the neck that caused it.

On the pop show, Pop said it was a different play entirely, and Fab confirmed that.

As soon as I saw it I replayed it and pointed out to my wife how JHO used his elbow to smash into Oberto's neck.
What would JHO's decision have done to DalMav's season if Oberto was crippled or worse?
And will that incident be swept under the carpet?
Freaky

.....and Amarelooms, first it was nuts getting hit which can be laughed off but now you rewrite game rules based on imagined starpower existing on your team while others in your camp are whining about your ?stars? not getting respect?
Avery would be the first one to slap dnow's dick outta your mouth and tell you to spend more time looking at games, or what's left of the games that your team gets to play.

I'd say he was healthy.

That last second shot at the 1st Q buzzer was beautiful.

Here's a description of events leading to JHO's elbow connecting with Oberto's neck:

2:21 left in 3rd......1st T on Duncan
1:38 left in 3rd.......Devean George slammed into Oberto
1:21 left in 3rd.......tip-in Oberto for two, he was very active on the boards

1:19 left in 3rd.......Dallas possession

1:08 left in 3rd.......Oberto guarding JHO, JHO shots poorly over Oberto's extended arms and misses

Oberto called for foul

Duncan reacts to foul called on Oberto

1:04 Duncan ejected

SA 74 Dal 68

1:04.................Stackhouse shoots the T

JHO shoots makes both freethrows

Spurs inbound, Vaughn streaks downcourt

.50....................Finley misses trey

.49 left in 3rd......JHO flies into Oberto hitting his neck with his elbow

announcers confirm JHO created contact after viewing replay and that it was a blown call

Clutch20 realizes at that moment another incident will be swept under the carpet
