Magic in any other capacity other than as a player has never been successful (see his coaching stint, as well as "The Magic Hour", and countless other endevours), so I give this abomination of an attempt at comedy a thumbs down. He's an idiot.

makes alot of sense.

The Nuggets match up well, rebound, have deadly scorers.

Way way better team than in 05.

Well, I know that you don't want to underestimate any opponent and certainly not take any team that has AI and Carmelo lightly, but the Nuggets have several glaring weaknesses. (defense and outside shooting among them).

The Spurs, while far from perfect, do not have any glaring weaknesses.

Magic normally makes intelligent comments.
I can't make any sense of this one, personally.

Did Magic take a stupid pill before the show?

After we got Finley, Magic picked us to win it all (and then Tim got PF, so that's not his fault).

rebounding?

Other than Bowen, who can play defense on Melo and AI?

I am sick of the commentators blathering about how Melo has grown up. I say he folds under pressure again. After all, he was suspeneded THIS YEAR for his juvenile behavior. It's not like he's had years to reflect on what a punk he is.

Spurs See the tale of the tape between the Spurs and Nuggets and compare their stats and leaders from the regular season
Spurs Nuggets
98.52 (14th) PPG 105.35 (3rd)
90.09 (1st) Opp. PPG 103.73 (26th)
+8.42 (1st) Diff. 1.62 (9th)
47.4 (2nd) FG% 46.5 (7th)
44.3 (4th) Opp. FG% 46.0 (16th)
38.1 (4th) 3PT% 33.6 (28th)
33.4 (2nd) Opp. 3PT% 35.3 (9th)
75.1 (17th) FT% 74.6 (19th)
40.69 (17th) RPG 43.4 (3rd)
39.11 (6th) Opp. RPG 42.28 (23rd)
+1.58 (10th) Diff. +1.12 (11th)

Doesn't seem like their rebounding differential is better when we're 10th and they're 11th.

Tony can defend AI.

If Melo is inside, Tim or Elson will help out. If he takes jumpers, terrific.

How many guys do we need to defend Carmelo.

They allow 46 % shooting and 104 points a game.

How are they going to win with that kind of defense?

If you say, they play fast, then you must also explain the high field goal percentage that they allow.

I am sorry, but I must say that I have always thought that AI was a little overrated.

When you shoot 40 % from the field, then you should not be averaging near 30 points a game.

People say that Kobe is selfish, but at least this year he shot 46 % from the field, despite being the only star player on the team.

Again, at least Tony shoots a high percentage from the field.

From WAAAAY back. His example earlier about discounting regular season vs. playoffs was his Laker squad vs a Spurs squad from the Ice days. Yeah, that's relevant.

He is a good businessman who has done lots for the inner cities, but Magic gets into trouble when he speaks. He can't coach, analyze basketball in this century or navigate a talk show.

Dude, seriously, think a little bit before speaking. Yeah, I disagree with Magic's pick, and his talk show was a disaster, but he's probably the most successful businessman of any NBA player ever. He's worth like 800M I believe...

I think Magic is sensing the Spurs going past his 80s Laker squads. Simple envy. Spurs have 3 more playoff runs to go. It could happen.

I don't blame Magic.

I am sure it is more wishful thinking than analysis.

But I still respect him--what he did in his career and what he did for basketball in general.

I grew up watching Showtime--I just like to see Magic proved wrong as far as the Spurs are concerned.

On the postgame show, Magic just said that the '07 Denver is a completely different team from the '05 one that lost four in a row to the Spurs.

"They can bring Nene in against Duncan... and then throw Camby at him. They can even bring in Geraldo off the bench"

First time I've heard Eduardo Najera mispronounced that way

I think out of all the matchups in the first round (in both the East and West) Nuggets probably have the best chance for an upset. I don't think it'll happen. But I can easily see the Nuggets pushing the Spurs to the limit for 6 or 7 games. Out of all the lowest seeds, I think they are the most dangerous.

Magic knows basketball.

Personally, I do not see the Spurs team winning any series at all. They have been somewhat pedestrian all year, and when the bright lights shine on them, they will show everyone what I knew all year long. They are finished as contenders, unless they make a trade to get TD some help.

Magic knows basketball more than the average fan, that's all.

He picks the teams that most resemble his old Lakers.

Spurs will win this series in 6 as I said before, don't panic kids.

If he had a logical arguement for his statement that's great, if he's just saying that out of his a$$ then it makes for discussion..... All I can say is he's said before there is NO WAY the Spurs can win other series and he was proven wrong. Let's hope it's repeated this time.
