I just heard on Houston sports radio that Grant Hill will be a free agent this summer and the host was speculating he could probably be had for the mid-level exception.

This guy fits the typical Spurs free agent MO. Old, creaky vet, with very little left in the tank playing a wing position.

Please God, no!

After watching him play against the Pistons yesterday Im all for it. Guy still had a lot of game left. 21 points, 8 boards, 4 assists and a block yesterday.

I'm sure stores that sell suits in town are definately in favor of this.

Actually I wouldn't mind Hill at all if it was for mid level exception...he's more athletic (despite bad knees and ankles) than either Barry or Finley and a better defender with little weaknesses in his game. Coming off the bench Hill is not a terrible alternative...biggest concern - would he stay healthy! What of Telfair, rumors have Celtics looking to cut ties... Is his upside worth giving him a second chance in a structured environment surrounded by postive influences it could possibly work...not sure what type of money we would be talking about?

Mid Level?

Trade out Barry?

Id be down for it.

At least Hill will rebound.

Isn't he sick and hurt all the time?

If we're going to get an old guy, I'd prefer he be durable.

He used to be a premium rebounder for his size, but since his 6 year injury run, his rebounding isn't much higher than Bowen's, 3.6 in 31 minutes per contest this year. I'd be hard pressed to waste either the MCE or a roster spot that could be used for a developing youngster on him.

Steve Smith had some good games too.

Telfair was glued to the Celtics bench. Repeat: the CELTICS bench.
Any questions?

If he's healthy, he would be an amazing pickup.

Anyone knows how many DNPs due to injury Hill has this regular season?

He played 65 games and started 64, averaging 30.9 minutes.

Any questions?
Yes. Will he be leaving the gun in his car or bringing it into the practice facility?

i love all the trash talk...there was another old free agent everyone was bitching about when he became available earlier in the year. too old, too slow, to broken down. then he take nazr starting spot and many of those same griping posters say we should have signed him with our weak soft centers that we have....

Given that, he is a good compliment to timmy and a nice option coming off the bench. a year with an option at mid level i would not mind.

MCE contracts are for a minimum of 3 years. Hill also doesn't shoot the 3 pointer. At his age and condition, I'm not sure I'd give him a vet min deal if it meant keeping a youngster off of the 15 man roster.

2000 Forum... I'd love Luke Walton though. That guy can play, and would be an incredible 7th or 8th man.

I don't know how old he is, but he's not game worn - the guy would be a great pick up.

Now that makes sense, but up to that point I was reading old, washed up can't play, and he still has skills and could help this team, but if a young player with upside is on the line then i can see why we wouldn't want to make that deal.

Is Kevin Willis not available?

No. There is no absolute use for this guy, but I think he could handle the back-up PG position very well. If the Spurs win it all this year, I'm all for it.

some want to spend the MLE on Hill?
just a question.
who will help the Spurs more (next season plus the two seasons after):
Scola + (just a guess) Matt Barnes for 3.5 + 2 million, or Hill will be 35 when next season starts, who was (and still is) a great player, but chnces are almost 100% that he will miss at least every 3rd game.
for the next season Spurs still have 3 wing players under contract, who are 36,35 and 34 when next season starts.
so...no, I don't think that signing Hill is a good idea. especially not when it takes the MLE.

I think it all depends on who is here. If Finley and Barry are gone then Hill would be a great veteran backup. However, a bench with Finley, Barry, Hill and Horry would definitely keep the trainers a little too busy I think.
