need an explanation for the Mavs Warriors Serie

So could the experts of Spurstalk explain me why the so called unbeatable Mavs are overplayed by the 8th Seed Warriors?

1)Baron Davis is a big point guard, and the Mavs have not figured out how to stop him.\

2) Warriors are playing a lineup of big guards and small forwards, which is "messing up" Dallas's defense and offense.

3) More specifically, Dirk can't shoot as well against a long, quick sf/pf. He is nullified.

Warriors are outhustling the Mavs in every aspect of the game; rebounding, loose balls, steals, etc. On top of that Dirk is reverting to the old Dirk who settles for outside jumpshots and missing in the clutch.

Matchups

Warriors are a bunch of mid sized(6'4"- 6'-7") quick players who all play defense(I know it is a Nelson team) they really play hard defense, they all go after loose balls and rebounds and they are hot from the arc in this series....this spells trouble for any team. The Spurs would be having problems with them, believe me.

I will add that this team is a bad matchup for Dallas, period. Very athletic, quick to close-out, fairly long, with some excellent outside shooting to match it's ability to slash and dish.

Defensively, when playing man-to-man, a combination of Stephen Jackson, Pietrus and Matt Barnes have done a nice job on Dirk. They are very physical when fronting Dirk in the post. They are doubling in 2 places, down on the block and at the top. Warriors are also frequently using a 2-3 matchup zone (I even thought I saw a triangle-and-2 thrown in there one time). It helps that the Mavs aren't hitting particularly well from the outside but credit to the Warriors because they seem to be uncharacteristically dedicated to hard work on D.

Some teams just don't match up well, this is one very good example.

A perfect storm of opportunity and consequence.

This Warriors team IS NOT the same one that came together at the beginning of the season. They jelled after the AS break and got hot toward the end of the season.

Plus they have a coach who has both intimate corporate knowledge in terms of knowing how to "take away" the Mavs best player. He also has a considerable "axe to grind" against his former employer.

Bottom line: It's always about matchups.

I am significantly suprised with the Warriors defense...I hadn't realized before but they seem focused on that part of the floor as well.

Mavs had trouble with the SUns this season also...as they play similiarly to the Warriors.

Here's the real question; Are the Warriors better than......the Suns? Both have that run and gun style, though the Suns offense is a lot more smoothly run and synchronized compared to the Warriors, mainly due to Nash. But the Warriors play a lot better Defense overall than the Suns, I think...what say you?

I don't know about that last statement. There is a reason the Spurs blew them out twice during their post all-star break run at the PO, and that is the matchup favors the Spurs greatly. The Spurs have two things the Mavs don't - an incredible ability to control tempo and a dominant force in the paint. Tim Duncan is the ultimate thorn in the Warriors side because they have no one who can even come close to stopping him. Even if they go zone there TD forces a complete collapse and that leaves open lanes, shots, and offensive rebounds. I think it would be a 5 game Spurs win in a series with the Warriors.

Warriors have Parker to counter Davis, who always matches up well against eachother and who will make Davis play at both ends of the floor. Terry.Harris are no contest....

The Mavs 7'ers are not able to pound the Warriors in the post to force a hard double and leave shooters open, and they are defensive liabilities that have a hard time keeping up with the smaller C the Warriors play. They rebound marginally well, but haven't capitalized on it. I guarantee you, if the Mavs had a Center or PF who could score efficiently in the post while being guarded mostly by guys who are 4 to 5 inches shorter than them, things would open up completely for Dirk, Stack, Terry, Harris' slashing, etc. That would force Nelly to play Biedrins a lot more and basically take away an offensive threat off of the Warriors court. Dallas would either have swept the series or be up 3-1 if they had that player and were able to play big defensively and offensively.

I have yet to figure out why Howard doesn't shoot much in 4th quarters. He can get good shots up anytime he pleases yet he rarely shoots late in games. It's been that way all season long.

I agree with most of this but I think Jackson is a punk ass more than a hardass. He's the only Warrior that I don't really like. I like Davis & Richardson
