One is leaving and one is starting next year. I told my oldest to find out who it was. I didn't even know about it until yesterday.

They do call it the ghetto school now. It's waaaaayyy overrcrowded, and the new M.S. that's gonna open up isn't really gonna relieve it.

I guess it all started at Stevens HS. Then on Monday during that big morning storm, Stevenson's principal pulled all the classes from the portables and made them go to the cafeteria and a rumor about a gun was the reason why.

Of course, my son never said a word since he didn't take it seriously.

I went to Stevenson, too -- Wildcat Pride, baby! In fact, my name is probably still on a championship board in the boys' gym.

Of course when I was there, the school hadn't even been open for 10 years and was in the middle of nowhere.

Over 1800.

O'Connor will be over 3400 kids next year. I'm still not sure if we will be switching to Brandeis next year

damn... it's bigger than a lot of high schools :lol

it's really not that big of a school either... unless they added some buildings, which i recall they did on the guilbeau side.

Shelly

They probably did, but not recently. A lot of portables, though. Braun Station ES opened up a new building last.

I guess years ago there was a bond to build a new MS to relieve Stevenson, but it didn't pass.

KSAT just reported that some students responsible for the threats have been arrested. Other students turned them in.

I think you will switch to Brandeis.

I've heard yes and no. My friend's husband is a principal in Northside and he hasn't heard either way yet either.

Seniors will be grandfathered in at OC and I think Juniors have the option...especially if they are involved in school sports, etc.

It's been crazy in the 20 years or so since I was a middle schooler. When I started Middle School at Stevenson, there were 8 middle schools in the district (Stevenson, Rudder, Hobby, Neff, Anson Jones, Pease, Sam Rayburn, and Sul Ross). Now there are 14. There were 4 high schools in the Northside district when I started middle school (Marshall, Holmes, Jay, and Clark). Now there are 10.

When I started at Stevenson, the attendance zone for the school was basically defined by Bandera Road, running out what is now Mainland Road to Heath Road, cutting over on Heath to Grissom, going out Grissom/Culebra to 1604 and then back to Bandera, but including all of Helotes as far out as San Antonio Ranch. At that, the school probably had fewer than 1,500 students and was housed entirely in one building with about 3 portables at most.

Now that same area is served by at least 4 middle schools (Stevenson, Zachry, Stinson, and Jefferson (when it opens). Amazing.

you're forgetting about connally middle school which is about 5 minutes down tezel from stevenson. i'm almost certain there's another one in there too.

Stinson is capped, I believe.

T-Pain, Brandeis opens in the 2008-2009 school year and I've heard that they are going to build another HS around Bandera Rd. and 211 (i think that's the road). I didn't realized that Pipe Creek is part of NISD and they go to OC.

and then there's this bond

Jackson for 2 years, Stevenson for 1, Marshall for 2, Taft for 2.

As someone who will be back in 28 days for his 20 year reunion (oy! :lol) It amazes me how much NISD has grown.

When I moved to Misty Oaks in 1982, the area was as FWD described. You went to Stevenson then Marshall. Then Taft opened up in 1985 and we all shifted over there.
We had the option like Shelly mentioned....Seniors stayed at Marshall, everyone else went to Taft unless you were in electives that were not offered at Taft. That whole area blew up about '95 and just has been crazy since. I have a friend who is a librarian in NISD and she told me Stevens will be capped next year. 10 high schools, two staduims...NISD is the fastest growing district in the state and show no sign of stopping.

I was wrong, there are (or soon will be) 5 middle schools serving the area that just a generation ago could only fill one middle school. I didn't realize that Connolly draws most of Northwest Crossing and the neighborhoods right across Tezel from that one.

Mindboggling.

The growth out in that area has been unbelievable over the past 20 years. My kids are in private school right now, but will most likely go to public HS. Problem is, we don't know where they'll go. Using my address, they'd go to Clark, using their dads address, Jefferson. My son wants to go to Marshall because that's where most of his friends will be going.

btw...Maverick, Longfellow, Jefferson...many MANY years ago :lol

Bracken Christian, Bulverde Elementary, Smithson Valley Middle, and Smithson Valley High!!!

When I graduated SV in 98 the total population of the school was 1200

the Senior class last year was 1400

The school has quadrupled in size, and went from a small 4a school to a big 5a in about 3 years, its crazy out here.

Clark is starting to look pretty ghetto now too. It's near 2,800. I know Brandeis is taking a lot of the Leon Springs kids, though.

And I was Locke Hill, Hobby (with a break in Wisconsin), Clark.

Oh, I meant to add as a btw -- Leon Valley (the original), Leon Valley II (at its opening), Braun Station (at its opening), Stevenson, Marshall.
