View Full Version : Did I see Tim throw in a baseline hook?

I had to rub my eyes, but I could've sworn I saw Tim make a hook shot from the baseline, about 15 feet away, ala Olajuwon. Was that a luck shot, because I don't remember that being part of his bag-o-tricks?

That was Duncan's best post move I've seen in years. Maybe even going back all the way to '99. He hadn't used that fake-middle-spin-back-fadaway-baseline-hook-from-15 in a loooooong time.

Nice time to break it out.

It was a stand up and scream "Did I really see that?" moment.

Was a great move & shot but I wouldn't call that a true hook shot.

I don't think I've ever seen him make that shot. It was awesome and took me totally be surprise (probably surprised the Suns too).

As a Suns fan, I was absolutely amazed at that shot. Duncan pivoted to the right and saw the double team coming, he pivoted away from the double team and hit that baseline jumper. I was easily the best move I have seen from Duncan in a long time.

It wasn't a hookshot, he still had both hands on the ball. It was a turnaround jumper that was a beauty.

I'm just glad the bank has finally opened back up for him. Haven't seen it since '05.

Duncan in this series will average 33 + and 14+ He is truly a man among boys, including a very talented man-child in Amare.

Duncan will do well against the Suns. I'm just surprised that I didn't see more from Manu.

So they can't stop Duncan and Parker and still expect to win this series?

Looks like a hook to me (toward the end of the video)

It was magnificently unstoppable, with nothing-but-net, graceful, beautiful finality.

Yeah, those couple posters had me thinking I was crazy. If that's not a hook, I don't know what is.

He did that in the corner right in front of the Suns bench with Thomas (I think) draped on him. It looked like about a 20 foot hook.

I was wrong about him having two hands on the ball, as he clearly didn't. If that isn't a hook, it is about as close as you can get. Duncan was facing the basket when he released the shot though.

Amazing shot, even watching the replay.

I think he faked right, then left, then hooked-shot it. Beautiful.

Timmay was awesome. I think that was one of his best games against the Suns.

Duncan killed Studdermire. but I think parker was more incredible.

That was a clutch shot. Similar to the 10-foot jump-hook Timmy hit over J.R. Reid of the Lakers in the 1999 playoffs in the final 10 seconds. The Spurs really needed a bucket then also. Although the hook was a bit unusual...there was late-game precedence.

I can't get the video to play, but if you mean the baseline jumphook that made it 104-102 Spurs, yes that was fabulous. :toast

Yeah, I remember Duncan using that shot, but it's been a while. Maybe he figured he would bring it back, knowing that Phoenix has to double him?

tim was almost square to the hoop, it was more of a shot-put shot, no?

doesn't hook shot mean your side-ways to the hoop, shooting?

Yep, that's why I said it was as close as you can get.

You don't have to be perpendicular for it to be a hook, it just needs to be a one handed shot with a clear follow-through and fully extended arm.

Duncan must be feeling good to be able to dust off the old tricks in his book.

Regardless of whether or not it was a hook shot, it was the best move I've seen from Timmy in a LONG time...you could tell he was pissed after that one possession where he was single-covered by Amare, pointing to himself and demanding the ball, and then missed his shot. Man, when Timmy gets fired up, he is NASTY. Amare's good first half defense awoke a sleeping giant. The Suns should be afraid.

That shot that he did make over Amare when he was pissed was a good one too.

It was a hook that looked like a shot-put, straight out of the young Timmy D playbook. Beautiful to see as we haven't spied a make on one of those in years!

Still, I wonder what has happened to Tim's footwork... the number of times he has a simple drop-step offered to him by the defender on the left block, yet refuses to go there, annoys the hell out of me. Also, when he was younger he actually used his left hand consistently - these days it's a rarity.

Strangely, he's nowhere near the post player he was 3 or 4 years ago. He used to use more moves, and be far more elegant, like a ballroom dancer. These days he pauses for too long, uses only three moves regularly (drive right into middle of key; put shoulder down going right, square up, shoot over top; ballfake, jumper), and lacks the finesse he used to wow everyone with.

Somehow, he still gets it done when it matters though, so I'll STFU. :lol

That was sick. Duncan must have felt real good about doing that to Amare.

Amare should be begging Duncan for tips when he retires.
