I know all about Salaverry...I'm a fan of his. He's very under-rated IMO. I just have a feeling that Martin is going to become a force at 185 lbs very soon...

Its strange they throw Alexander in there with Jardine. I got Martin and Chuck winning. It would just be wierd seeing Liddell lose. If Jardine wins I would give him the next title shot.

They scavenged every MMA camp in the country to dig up Alexander. He was supposed to fight David Heath, but he filled in for Forrest due to the staff infection...

LHW still isn't that deep. Too bad they couldn't tap into the Pride pool for an opponent for Jardine. From everything I've read about Alexander, he should get peter-rolled..

They do that because they know if they stepped in the ring with them they'd get their ass KICKED. I'd love to see mayweather go in there and try to get one of his "tactical victories" fucking pussy needs to man up and take some punches. :dizzy

Yep...

I just hope we see a fairly officiated fight. When CC got stood-up against Gonzaga I said "WTF?"...Herb's explanation was a joke too. Of course, it didn't work out so well for Dana / CC after the stand-up, so it hasn't been discussed much. Not like it would've if CC would've then KO'd Gonzaga...

If anybody will be protected, it's Chuck...

I'll be pulling for Rampage, but mainly want to see a great fight...and want to see Chuck tested on the feet for a change...

FUCK! Eric Schafer is out of UFC 71 with a broken rib. Alan Belcher will be his replacement and will face Salmon.

Belcher is moving up a weight class to take this fight. Salmon will no doubt use his wrestling skills and his size advantage to control Belcher on the ground.

From UFC.tv

05/20/2007
Right on Time - The 'Old' Rampage is Back By Thomas Gerbasi

“What makes this a big fight? It’s just two men going off to war, we fight for a large amount and we’ve danced this dance before. I’ve been in this predicament several times before, so what makes this a big fight? Millions of people are gonna be watching us, but it’s just gonna be me, him, and the referee inside that cage.”- Quinton Jackson

Quinton Jackson is joking, of course. He knows, perhaps better than anyone, how big his fight against Chuck Liddell this Saturday is. It’s a fight that pits two of the best 205-pound mixed martial artists in the world against each other, and not just in a battle for Liddell’s UFC light heavyweight crown, but in a rematch of the last bout the seemingly invincible ‘Iceman’ lost, in 2003, to the same man he’ll be facing at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas.

A man named ‘Rampage’.

A fighter who, perhaps more than anyone, showed that Liddell is human, that not everyone he hits with his thunderous right hand falls down. And despite the champion’s reign of terror since that November night in Tokyo - a string that has seen him win seven in a row, all by KO or TKO, over the likes of Randy Couture (twice), Tito Ortiz (twice), Jeremy Horn, Vernon White, and ‘Babalu’ Sobral – there is still unfinished business with a man who took his best shots, kept coming forward, and then stopped him in the second round.

As dominant as Liddell may be, that’s got to put question marks in his head.

“If I hit somebody with everything I got and they just kept coming, I would think twice before I’d sign to fight with that person,” Jackson told UFC.com from his camp in Big Bear, California last Tuesday night. “But Chuck is a courageous guy and that says a lot for his personality. He’s got some audacity, he’s got some canohads, some crocollas.
Chuck loves to fight, but maybe, just maybe, in his twisted mental cavity, he wants to lose. Maybe he’s tired of being champion and he wants to retire and go out with a nice ass kicking, so he can do his thing and hang out and do what he likes to do. You never know. And I’d be happy to oblige. I wouldn’t mind helping out a friend by giving him a nice farewell ass kicking.” :lol

Jackson says all this with a straight face, emphasizing the words of his own creation such as canohads and crocollas. Suffice to say that he means Liddell has got heart for taking the rematch and looking to overturn the last unavenged loss on his record.

But Jackson has a pretty fair ticker himself, fighting someone who hasn’t been in trouble in the Octagon for close to three and a half years and who has pretty much cleaned out the current 205-pound weight class. Sure, there are young guns like Rashad Evans, Keith Jardine, Forrest Griffin and Michael Bisping on the way up, but they’re still seen as too green for the 37-year old Liddell. So the 28-year old Memphis native stepped in, despite his desire to get a couple more UFC fights under his belt to build up his Stateside profile after a career of fighting mainly in Japan for the Pride organization.

“I think I should have had a few more fights for people to get to know me, to see me crashing folks, knocking folks out, kneeing folks to the head, grounding and pounding with some elbows crashing to their skulls and noses, and me putting foot to backside,” said Jackson, who made his UFC debut in February with a second round knockout of Marvin Eastman. “They just got me one fight. What if people missed that pay-per-view? But I’m in the fight business and they’re in the promoting business, so they must know what they’re doing.”

Frankly, it’s the only logical fight for Liddell and for Jackson. The moment the World Fighting Alliance (WFA) folded and the UFC picked up Jackson’s contract, the only bout fight fans wanted to see was the rematch between these friendly rivals. Plus it’s a win-win situation for ‘Rampage’, who, if he wins, will obviously be on top of the light heavyweight food chain. If he loses, he’s 1-1 with Liddell and a couple fights down the road a rubber match would do big business. But he’s not thinking about losing; Jackson only has winning on his mind. Just ask him what he hopes fans take away from his fight on Saturday.

“I hope they take Chuck away with some smelling salts to wake his ass up,” he chuckles.

Seriously though, Jackson hopes to make a good impression.

“The fans, I hope they say, ‘Damn, Rampage is the real deal. He’s the new face of MMA, and he’s gonna be the one to change our sport.’ I hope they know that as soon as they see a little bit more of me.”

And if you’re a new fan of the sport, here’s the Rampage Rundown.

A pro since 2000, Jackson lost his first fight to the man he beat in his UFC debut earlier this year, Marvin Eastman, and then came up the hard way fighting in local shows in his adopted home state of California. He would get his first big break in July of 2001 when he was brought in to Pride to face Japanese superstar Kazushi Sakuraba, or more accurately, he was brought in to lose to the hometown hero. He remembers that day, when he got his first dose of the bright lights and huge crowds, something similar to what he’ll be seeing on Saturday.

“I remember my stomach feeling like I swallowed a brick,” he muses. “I still, to this day, think that somebody poisoned my room service or something like that. I was happy that it was my biggest paycheck to date, but I know they brought me there to lose. They made me lose all this weight when Pride didn’t even have weight classes. I knew there was no way I could win. But I knew I couldn’t turn back and not fight. I said, ‘I’ve got to go out there and put on the best show possible and do my best so I could at least make a name for myself and Pride would have me back.’

Jackson would get submitted that night by Sakuraba, but he was so impressive and exciting in defeat that 16 of his next 17 fights would be in Japan. It was an almost five year run that saw Jackson emerge as one of the best fighters in the world, and whether he was dishing out exhilarating defeats to the likes of Kevin Randleman, Ricardo Arona, and Liddell, or was on the receiving end of defeats to Wanderlei Silva (twice) and Shogun Rua, you tuned in to watch him fight because you knew you were going to get your money’s worth.

But after his win over Liddell in 2003 (which ironically was only his first fight of the night as he faced and was stopped by Silva later that evening in the Pride: Final Conflict tournament), things started to change for Jackson. He would convert to Christianity in 2004, shortly before his second loss to Silva (a loss undoubtedly aided by a pre-fight fast three days earlier), and people started to wonder if this kinder, gentler Jackson has lost his edge. The talk grew louder after he eked out a split decision over Murilo Rua and then was knocked out by Ninja’s brother Mauricio. But after four straight wins, Jackson has not only gotten his fight game back together, he scoffs at the notion that his spiritual life has anything to do with what happens in the Octagon.

“It’s done a lot for me and it helps me out,” said Jackson of his faith. “It’s kinda hard to explain, but it doesn’t have a whole lot to do with my job – it’s just my way of life and how I treat people, how I treat my family, my kids and myself. It’s just my way of life.”

As Jackson puts it, the less than stellar portion of his career has had more to do with his training situation than anything else.

“Since 2003 I’ve had my ups and I’ve had my downs,” he admits. “I had to go through some teammates and different trainers, and I wasn’t getting the proper training and sparring partners I needed. But now, I hooked up with Juanito Ibarra and he’s hooked me up with some excellent pad work for my hands and my speed, and now I’m getting good sparring and got guys to kick my ass. I got a nice solid team, and we’re happy with what we’ve got going, so I think I’ve grown more in the last year than I’ve grown in the other years. It’s a rollercoaster, but I’m on the ride, baby.”

That he is, and leading up to Saturday’s fight, Jackson also has a full cast of characters helping him get ready for his world title challenge, including UFC vets Cheick Kongo, Scott Smith, James Irvin and Hector Ramirez, former heavyweight boxing contender Jeremy Williams, and some guys named ‘Hercules’, ‘Lunch Box’, and ‘Chef Bad Breath’ rounding out the team.

And when you hear him talk about his team, the fight, and his life, one thing’s clear - the old ‘Rampage’ is back. What that means may not be something you can put into words, but those who have talked to him before the losses to Silva and after them will know what I’m talking about. It’s a feeling, an attitude where Jackson has his head on right and is ready for his fight. That’s a good thing for him and for fight fans expecting a war on Saturday. Tell him this, and he chuckles.

“Rampage never went nowhere, it’s just a new and improved Rampage,” said Jackson, 26-6. “I haven’t changed, I just watch my mouth and watch what I say. I got God on my side now, and he don’t like ugly. I’m already ugly enough, I don’t got to act ugly. I’ve got to talk right and be a positive role model, even though I like rolling models, I’ve got to be a positive role model.”

Now all he needs to do is fight, and if he’s in the right shape mentally and physically, he’s a tough out for anyone in this sport, including Liddell. But the way he sees it, what matters is what he brings to the Octagon, not what the ‘Iceman’ has in store for him.

“Maybe Chuck has improved or got a few more moves, but I don’t pay that much attention to him,” said Jackson. “I’m hoping for the best Chuck Liddell. I’m a real man and I don’t wanna fight somebody who says he’s dead or half-hurt. I want to fight the best because I want to know that I’m the best in my mind.”

And if he wins this Saturday, there will be no disputing that he’s the best – in mind, body, and in the eyes of fight fans. This is no easy ride though, and Jackson knows it. But he’s ready to walk through fire if that’s what it takes to get the win.

“Chuck’s one of the toughest guys I faced,” said Jackson. “He’s a destroyer, but most of the people he’s destroyed haven’t been known for their striking skills. I’m not saying I’m am expert, but I don’t mind throwing them dogs. Most people are scared to stand up with Chuck – but I’ll stand up with Chuck, I’ll sit down with Chuck, I’ll kneel with Chuck, I’ll roll with Chuck, I’ll ride with Chuck, it don’t matter. I get tunnel vision and I don’t even think about how big a fight it is or how many people are watching it on pay-per-view. Just let me know how big my check is gonna be at the end of the night.”

I don't think so...not if it's on ESPN News. I think they only showed them on Spike once? (UFC 66?)

Dude as much as I want to see Chuck lose, there is no way Wanderlei would beat him. Tito beat him and Liddell put a clinic on Tito.

1. Severe case of MMA Math.
2. Tito beat Wand Silva over 7 yrs ago (Silva was just 23 yrs old).

Man, I'm really liking the undercard actually. It's not as good as UFC 73 will be, but I think it's pretty solid.

Karo - Burkman should be fireworks.

Salaverry makes his return against Martin, who looked great at 185 lbs in his last fight.

See what the unknown Alexander can do against Jardine (who I think is a little over-rated).

I'm not a huge Leben fan, but his fights are usually exciting. Starnes hasn't lived up to his pre-TUF hype as of yet, so we'll see what he's got.

Undefeated Chutebox fighter Thiago Silva making his UFC debut against Irvin. I hope we get to see this fight... :fro

There is this cool sports bar called Ringer (flat panels in the bathroom mirror) and me and some friend were walking(or trying too) walk down to 6th street. I am friends to all race, sexual preference etc... but these guys were staring at us. Don't know if they were gay or not but I yelled at them asking them what they were looking at and if they had a problem. Freemad Dan (another poster here)was with me that night and he turned around yelling at them too. They just kept walking and were talking trash while walking. It wasnt a big deal, but yeah we were wasted and outnumbered. We would have gotten beat worse than Griffen vs Bonner 1.

Why the UFC needs Chuck Liddell to lose at UFC 71

http://www.mmahaven.com/images/rampage.jpg

Chuck Liddell has consistently fought some of the best in Mixed Martial Arts since his last loss 4 years ago winning against Randy Couture, Renato Sobral and Jeremy Horn to name a few. Now he faces the man who handed him his last loss which was in PRIDE at Final Conflict 2003 at UFC 71. Since that meeting Chuck has amassed an amazing 7-0 record and picked up the UFC light heavyweight belt along the way. Quinton “Rampage” Jackson has been busier but not as successful amassing up a 7-3 record.

UFC 71 is the single most important fight the UFC has ever had as the outcome has drastic ramifications on the future of the UFC regardless of who wins. If Chuck wins it brings back some stability to the recent flood of continuous upsets that have rocked the MMA universe since Anderson Silva plastered Rich Franklin’s nose on the other side of his face with his knees on October at UFC 64. Since Franklin lost his middle weight belt other greats such as Tim Sylvia, Matt Hughes, Wanderlei Silva, Georges St Pierre, and Mirko Cro Cop have taken losses that were chalked in as wins by fans before the fight even began. Upsets can be great for sports and exciting for fans but too many upsets in such a short time can bring on an age of parity that brings down the level of excitement for cards. And let’s face it, its harder to market fighters when nobody is sure they will still hold the belt after their next fight so while the UFC will never admit it, they would almost always chose for the bigger star to always win, almost.

But if Rampage does win, all is not lost since if there is to be another upset, it needs to be Rampage as there is so much to gain. Rampage is what the UFC and every sport needs. A charismatic spokesman who will go on talks shows, do radio interviews and everything in between to sell the sport and being able to win at an elite level while he does it. Tito Ortiz would have been perfect for this role but its becoming obvious he is simply not an elite fighter and this has been proven time and time again with losses to Randy Couture and Chuck Liddell. Defeating a broken down post 40’s fighter in Ken Shamrock a couple times impresses nobody. He’s a great fighter and has the media tools to charm, but likely never a title holder. Chuck and Randy are as nice and humble an athlete as you will ever see but they simply don’t do well on camera. Other elite fighters like Mirko Cro Cop hate the media and the pomp that surrounds fights, Fedor Emelianenko just smiles and gives 2 word answers never making eye contact and like Anderson Silva, none of them speak English very well. Politically incorrect or not, the UFC needs an English speaking hero who oozes charisma and can work the media. Imagine Rampages infectious grin on HBO’s Inside Sports with a LHW belt hanging in the background and you can see the UFC taken to a new level. A minority of humble beginnings who has turned his life around from street crime to body slams, Bryan Gumbel would just gush over him. After the NHL playoffs this weekend got relegated to obscurity on the Versus network during over time for a horse racing pre-game show and with the success of NASCAR, we now know its possible for a fast dramatic shift in sports by the mainstream media in what it covers. Rampage who walks into the octagon howling like a werewolf bringing the fans to their feet and wears a thick metal chain for good luck that is big enough to secure Fort Knox recently stated to the Orange County register,

“”I’ve been howling since I was a little kid. I’ve been wearing a chain ever since I started wrestling in high school. Why not be myself? I’m already stupid, make fun of everybody, laugh and joke around. I just brought it with me. Be myself. This is what I do. When I fight, my main objective is to excite the fans. If it weren’t for them, we wouldn’t have this sport.”

As much as the UFC needs more stability right now, they need Rampage even more.

It looks like the UFC will will add one of the most talented Light Heavyweights in MMA to its ranks as it was made clear Shogun officially signed with the UFC and may fight at UFC 71 which heavily bolsters a pretty weak card. Well, in the current issue of realfighter magazine Shogun states he would fight wandy any time even though they train together. "Its just business."

So I could see Tanner and Shogun agreeing. But Tanner and Shogun would be horrible match up for Tanner. I love Evan Tanner but he would be destroyed, plus he would need to gain some weight or Shogun drop down.

Tanner is one my favorite fighters of all time but it would definitely be a bad match up for him, especially the stand up. But these guys are two tough and skilled fighters and it would very interesting to watch them. If Tanner could manage to get the clinch or in good position on the ground then he might be able to work some of his game.

If anything, we all know that Tanner can take a lot punishment and give a great fight.

Thanks Leonard, yeah I was glad Sturm linked me. Very cool. I have only been up and running for about 6 weeks now.

Yeah you may be right about Tanner being on the list. I do know he has cross trained with them a few times but he is probably not to be considered a true "Chute Boxe" success story as it stand right now but its debatable I suppose. But Since he is a true member now I added him. If he was still doing that silly "foundation" that he bailed on so quick I would not have added him.

As for Gonzaga, they claim him a a member but it certainly is a confusing issue. I have tried to find out for sure why he left and if he is truly completely gone. I have a half written entry on his rise to fame that I am watiting to post as soon as I find a solid, legit non rumor story on why he left. The closest thing I can find is it has something to do with training time and it was not such a big deal. Nothing dramatic.

Anyway, I appreciate the discussion guys, love debating some good ol mma. Glad I saw this forum, I am a Mavs fan but this is a good one. Think I will stick around as long as the ADMIN doesn't mind someone just parked in a off topic sub forum.

Bodog Odds:
http://www.bodog.com/sports-betting/mixed-martial-arts.jsp

Carmelo Marrero +220
Wilson Gouveia -280

Jeremy Stephens +260
Din Thomas -330

Sean Salmon -125
Alan Belcher -105

Thiago Silva -230
James Irvin +190

Kalib Starnes +190
Chris Leben -230

Houston Alexander +400
Keith Jardine -600

Terry Martin +120
Ivan Salaverry -150

Karo Parisyan -260
Josh Burkman +200

Chuck Liddell -175
Quinton Jackson +145

It looks like a lot of bets are being placed on Rampage & Burkman based on how the odds have moved the last couple days.

If I was laying money I like Stephens, Alexander, Martin, Burkman, and Rampage as UD bets. BTW, I put together a spreadsheet going back to Dec 30th and placed $20 on every underdog (UFC and Pride cards). I'd be up about $500. I was just curious with all the upsets lately how it would work out.

So is Dana really going to fight Tito?

That was an exhibition boxing match that never happened. It was supposed to be in April and was part of Tito's contract. Tito had a previous feud with Dana (long story)

Tito never showed up because once he discovered it was going to be on Spike TV he wanted more money...blah blah blah...fight never happened and the NSAC (Nevda State Athletic Commission) told Dana they better never try this again and I guarantee it will never happen.

The NSAC only holds official sway in Nevada but if you tick them off you will never fight in Nevada again.

2 videos here...
http://www.ufc.com/index.cfm?fa=MultiMedia.video

http://www.mmaweekly.com/absolutenm/templates/dailynews.asp?articleid=4012

At the UFC 71 pre-fight press conference, Ultimate Fighting Championship President Dana White touched on several topics – from the Chuck Liddell vs. Quinton Jackson main event on Saturday night to the possibility of Shogun Rua and Wanderlei Silva coming to the UFC to the turmoil surrounding the Fertittas’ purchase of Pride.

About Liddell and Rampage, White said that while Liddell relishes the opportunity to finally avenge the only loss on his record that has gone unresolved, Jackson’s wrestling ability and knockout power makes for an intriguing fight.

As for Shogun and Wanderlei, White wouldn’t exactly tip his hand, but did say, “Whoever wins this fight, somebody has already challenged them and we’ll announce that on Saturday night.”

Though reports surfaced on Sherdog.com that the purchase of Pride by the Fertittas has been finalized, White was somewhat vague in his response to questions about the purchase only saying “we’re still trying to figure out how we’re doing this whole thing,” but also stating that fans will still get to see the top guys fight each other.

I don't know their last fight was a good one that Chuck lost and Chuck did not look great against Tito, he should have put him away much sooner than he did. Rampage matches up well with Chuck. My friends who know a lot more about MMA than me say that Chuck will win this one but the one they all want to see which they think will never happen is Fedor Vs Chuck. They all say he is the best fighter in the world and Dana will never make that fight because Chuck is his big headline guy and he can't risk him getting his ass kicked.

Fedor is not that much bigger though they could meet at a catch weight say 210 pds maybe, i think Fedor is usually about 225. He is not a huge heavyweight and i keep hearing over and over that he would crush Chuck. Chuck fights at 205 but i am sure he walks around at more like 220. Hell Randy moved up to heavyweight they can find a weight to agree on to get Fedor and Chuck in the octagon.

I just watched the replay of the fight, and I'm shocked. Liddell down after 2 minutes? That shit was weak, that punch from Rampage wasn't even that big, not big enough to make a decent MMA fighter go down.

Rampage>>>>Liddell, I doubt Liddell wants anymore with Jackson. The only thing that'll make him want another piece is if he feels like he's forced to by the media and the public pushing for a rematch. Chuck knows Rampage will beat his ass again.

After the fight when Rogan interviewed Liddell, he was really passive, he seemed like he knew he might be bound to have a rematch but inside he didn't really want to step back in the ring with Rampage. That's how I saw it. I'm telling you, Chuck will only rematch because everyone's gonna be pushing for one and he doesn't want his "Iceman" badass reputation ruined by backing down and being a bitch. If Chuck were to fight Rampage again, I think Rampage would definitely win in a fight that goes into the 2nd round and Rampage constantly beats Chuck's ass, drops him all over the place, then puts his fist through his face much more violently than he did last night.

Randy started out as a HW, was the heavyweight champ at one time, and would cut weight to fight at LHW. Him moving up to HW was just getting back to his natural weight. Chuck would have absolutely no reason to try and bulk up to fight at heavyweight. He would give up way too much size and strength in the HW division to compete effectively.

Oh, and Fedor is much bigger. The weight they weigh in at is not the weight at which they walk onto the mat.

We should all be thanking Rampage!! He saved us from multiple dipshit threads by Mr Dio about Pride being a joke, Jap minor leagues, etc etc...and just the usual garbage from him. Now he's nowhere to be seen, as is normally the case... :lol

I was kinda pissed that the fight went so quickly...I was hoping to see a dominating performance over several rounds from Rampage, not a quick KO resulting in the "just got caught" talk (which very well could be the case). Chuck got off easy IMO...when he got in the ring I told my buddy I just had a feeling he was going to take a beating. Rampage looked like the old Rampage again. I have no idea why Rogan said that Rampage looked nervous? I didn't see it...

The crazy thing was that Rampage KO'd Chuck on the ground, then hit him again and he snapped right back...pretty funny.

Karo-Burkman was very entertaining. Karo's Borat reference (his song) in the post-fight interview went over the heads of 99.9% of the people in attendance.

I still can't believe how Alexander took it to Jardine. Jardine was a bit over-rated after being the over-rated Forrest Griffin, but damn...that was shocking. This GIF cracks me up...

Wilson Gouveia's legkicks are no joke (damn I love me some legkicks!). He did the same to Keith Jardine but was robbed of the decision in that fight IMO. He's definitely a guy to watch...

Poor James Irvin...he has terrible luck. Completely blew out his knee against Thiago Silva (which sucks because I wanted to see what the new CB guy can do). Irvin is the guy that had the cage door pop open against Bobby Southworth in another org last year...he screwed up his knee when they fell to the ground and the fight was over.

I hope we never see Leben again...although Dana called that the fight of the night...

Terry Martin will be a force at MW...

i think Fedor is usually about 225. He is not a huge heavyweight and i keep hearing over and over that he would crush Chuck.

He would absolutely destroy Chuck... :lol

I just watched the replay of the fight, and I'm shocked. Liddell down after 2 minutes? That shit was weak, that punch from Rampage wasn't even that big, not big enough to make a decent MMA fighter go down.

You don't have to get hit too hard if it's in the right spot...but I've seen Rampage, Shogun, Lil Nog, etc take much bigger shots right on the chin and shrug it off or recover.

Oh, and Fedor is much bigger. The weight they weigh in at is not the weight at which they walk onto the mat.

Not THAT much bigger. Fedor fights around 225 lbs (and obviously doesn't cut weight)...Chuck is probably 215 lbs when he fights. In one of his pre-fight interviews for UFC 71 he said he was around 215 lbs at the time so he was in good shape for the small weight cut. Chuck is at least 2" taller... (Fedor is only 5'11" IMO, after standing next to him)

People paid like 50 dollars for a 4 minute fight consisting of circling with only so many punches? I know the undercard but it didn't look like much of anything that wouldn't be free on TV.

"UFC clowns Yahoo, Hockey and NBA finals"
http://ufcmania.com/2007/05/29/ufc-clowns-yahoo-hockey-and-nba-finals/

In addition to scoring the cover of Sports Illustrated, the UFC and its UFC 71 event topped the Yahoo! Buzz Overall Sports list today. The term “UFC” ranked as number one, and “UFC 71” ranked at number nine, and “Chuck Liddell” ranked at number 16.

The UFC also topped an ESPN Poll taken over Memorial Weekend asking sports fans which sporting event they were most excited about. The results placed UFC as number one, with 32 percent of the nation answering “UFC 71: Liddell vs. Jackson.”

Below UFC 71 and ranking second was the NBA Conference Finals at 30 percent, followed by the Stanley Cup Finals game at 14 percent, the Indianapolis 500 at 13 percent and the Nextel Series Cup at Charlotte at 11 percent.

The UFC also broke records of its own, scoring the most web site traffic in history on ufc.com. The site enjoyed over 5.7 million page impressions on Sunday, May 27 – one day after UFC 71 – marking the highest traffic to ufc.com for a single day ever.

its sad that the pay outs were that low.....SHIT I still would take 5 punches from Rampage for 500,000 though.

That's just what is reported as their base pay. Some might be accurate but most probably are not. Chuck and Rampage don't include a PPV cut. They'll probably end up in the $2M-3M range each (that's what Chuck and Tito got for UFC 66). Dana takes care of guys depending how they do also. Houston Alexander stated that Dana was taking care of him in one of his post fight interviews.

They have sponsorships and other bonus' too (KO & submission of the night).

Given all that, the pay is still low for the most part...it's slowly getting better though.

Your not considering the training money and sponsors the UFC sets them up with. Plus PPV cuts for the top draws.

MMA, like boxing and every other sport has far too many average "players" to set them all up. It would be bad business if they did.

Well, it's going to be a several months before he fights again. I think we'll see him all over the place up until his next fight.

Dan is a very tough fight. If QJ does win, he'll probably fight Chuck again...or maybe Shogun. Hell, maybe Wandy if he gets back on track against Chuck later in the year. We've seen what the CB guys did to Rampage in the past. If he's truly not "new and improved" then he could be in big trouble. Defending his belt a few times will be a huge accomplishment IMO...

He came to the UFC at the WRONG time. He's got a ton of top talent to deal with that Chuck didn't have over the last couple years. In hindsight, he probably should've come to the UFC after the first win over Chuck. He'd most likely be very famous and very rich by now...

I just got back from my bachelor party/vacation trip at the MGM Grand in Vegas. Unfortunately, the guys I went with aren't big fight fans so attending 71 wasn't part of the plan. I did find the fighter's entrance/exit in the hotel and I hung out there for a while and met just about everybody except for Chuck. Also got to meet guys who weren't fighting like Arlovski, Villasenor, Gonzaga, Dennis Kang and Shonie while he was shopping for a pimp suit.

Although I didn't get to attend the actual event, a UFC weekend seems like a helluva deal. The organization and the fighters go out of the way to be visible and approachable giving the fans a very personal experience.
